Floppy: add another zero for the enormous 5MB hard drive, almost! :o I couldn't persuade my parents to get me a floppy disc unit, its controller and so on, but I'm not sure they could've afforded it anyway, so I was stuck with my old cassette player and its wrinkly tapes. And to think what those figures translate into in today's money... :ahhh:

LOL Thanks for the correction, you are right. It was a 5 1/4 floppy. Can't remember what I paid for my 1st 10mb HD.

My first 10MB hard drive for the IBM-PC was external and was the size of a loaf of bread and was as heavy as a small bowling ball. I still remember hitting F9 to recalculate a spreadsheet in Lotus 1-2-3 and going for a cup of coffee while it was doing so.

While we're on the older-than-dirt topic, I'm wondering how many "older-timers" are posting or are otherwise contributing to the myriad of "this svcks" posts? I guess I'm getting to be like my parents with the "walk to school a mile in 2 feet of snow" attitude. Sure I've had a couple of hickups on my 360 but, all-in-all, I'm having the time of my life with Skyrim.

15 , anyone has to say something ?

Think of the years of gaming you have in front of you. When you are playing Elder Scrolls XII, go to the Shrine of Arkay and remember us old gits.

Haven't compained. I've only had one CTD but with new PC patch have noticed my video card is heating up some. Only play about an hour or two at a time so no biggie. I just read and tweek where needed. It is a great game. I am getting quite a backlog of quests and havent even gotten out of Whiterun.

I'm 73 (gulp). Must admit I'm having a bit of trouble with Skyrim because my hand-eye coordination is pretty poor, and my quick response time is p.r.e.t.t.y...s.l.o.w. But I'm now up to Level 5! :teehee:

The first RPG I ever played was Wizardry for the Apple. Anybody else remember those great games?

Damn..you guys are older than pong. :P

got that right son. When pong came out not even every house had a tv, let alone more than one, and no remotes. We salivated to get pong, and it was boring after 10 minutes.

If you look at the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_consoles , and the dates they were invented, you will see that gaming isn't new. Some of us actually grew up playing them, and just never stopped. Most that did play back then "grew up" or just grew out of them so to speak. I think it's ridiculous that so many people think that there's some special age limit to liking or playing video games. I will play until my eyes go blind, my fingers stop working, or I die, whichever comes first. And I'm a 45 year old grandma of 4, who already has all 4 into games, and 2 locked into the TES series. ;) They don't play, but they beg grandma to play so they can watch. :P They are only 7 and 8, and granny doesn't let anybody touch her computer...

Having come from the much-loved Ultima and Zork type games and then having had a really long break in gaming while RL took over, I've been in awe of how far games have come and was drawn back to gaming in a big way because of Oblivion and the open world. I'm having the time of my life in Skyrim even with a few hiccups on my PC. I have faith that things will be fixed because I had the A-bomb on my PS3 for Oblivion (so sad) and switched to PC later and I can say that Oblivion is so stable that I think Skyrim will end up the same way. Skryim doesn't svck at all but the way some people look for exploits to complain about might. I suppose it will end up helping Bethesda in some way though, at least I hope so. It gives them information for future development.

Yep and some of us grew up with our children's consoles and pc's. When I grew up there was only hopscotch and jump ropes. But I never hesitated to buy my kids video games so I could play as well. Families that game together stay together. :lmao:

63 myself. Sold the commodore 64 when it first came out...been tinkering with comps and games every since. Started modding in FO3 and been keeping young---on my 4th or 5th childhood--- by playing games! They'll have to pry the keyboard outta my hands to bury me----or maybe I'll just stipulate for them to bury it with me!
