The one critical flaw in Fallout 4 (no spoilers)

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 2:53 am

Looking at all the DLCs of Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim.. you never start with a brand new character, you continue with the one you have.

Also it would be a waste, since you wouldn't be able to get back in the DLC map with your primary character.

1. You can completely clear out Diamond City.

2. You can take over ALL settlements by killing everyone there (this will fail any quests related to those places).

3. Any Side/Misc quest can be failed.

4. The only people you can't kill are required for the MQ or a Companion Quest. A lot of these people become killable after their respective quest as well. (Companions are also not killable when they are allied with you). This totals only about 28 people who can't be killed.

5. You can backstab any of the main factions (except for the Minuteman) at any time. For example, you can ally yourself with the BoS until you get onto their airship... Then take them all out from within their own airship (this is the only way to get certain items, like the Elder BoS robes).

And so on.

There's a lot of possibly evil choices in the game. They are just not told directly to you via quests. You gotta do them yourself.

I'm late to the rant-train but I agree completely. My biggest gripe with the game is the voiced character and the dialogue/story that suffers because of it. I don't like how so defined our character is this time around as my biggest draw of a Beth game is the freedom to make unique custom characters.

They lost so much of what made them great by trying to mimic others...bad show Beth.

Exactly, I won't be able to make a bunch of characters and keep it interesting like previous games...shame as I really like the game otherwise.

Ok I think I believe you more than what other people say.

1. Yay.

2. Yay.

3. Yay also please explain more. Like are there places where you get a quest to help people like some sort of camp and if you don't help them in a certain amount of time you fail the quest because all of the NPC's get killed by enemy NPC's? Those types of failable quests?

4. Immortal main quest NPC's and companions I still hate.

5. Yay.

All in all this seems like a step up except the dialogue wheel and the four options of the choices you get is the only thing that's a huge disappointment in Fallout 4 for me I guess. I really hope Bethesda Game Studios tweaks the dialogue options and gets rid of the dialogue wheel in a patch.

Some quests has a time limit and if not done within the time limit, you just get a quest fail. The NPCs related won't die from reaching the time limit, just be very upset with you and probably won't side with you. Though this only applies to misc quests. Side quests don't have a time limit but can still be failed if something happens to anything important. (For example, there's a quest where you gotta get a Protection that can make Ice-Cold alcoholic drinks for people and can turn any drink, like Nuka-Cola, to their Ice-Cold version. There's the optional option of keeping this bot for yourself and you can just go back to the guy who wanted you to get it for him and backstab him, thusly failing the quest. I'm also assuming destroying the Protection will also fail the quest too but I don't want to do that due to how useful he is).

Active faction quests will also fail if you complete the MQ with another faction.

What do you mean? Do you have a problem with people if they choose to do evil things sometimes in video games?

So the most I can expect for NPC's getting attacked and possibly killed is the raiders that attack your settlement?

Sadly, no. Settlers are protected (they can't be killed by raiders). Though I'm glad they aren't essential so you can still accidentally kill them yourself while fighting off the raiders (I've done so a few times) or just flat-out murder them if you really wanna be evil.

Though the protection status is a bit of fun to mess around. My evil character loves tormenting the settlers, sending them off to this island with nothing so they can get beat up by Mirelurks, over and over again. (I feel tormenting is more evil than killing).

Yes. But that's my issue. If you're having fun. Go for it. Strictly my issue. :)

In Fallout 3 I killed the Overseer. This upset Amata considerably, and she sat at a table sobbing. So I took the Overseers decapitated head and placed it on the table in front of her.

I like to think that I brought them closer together.

Ok then. Why do you feel the need to share this? I mean what you do in your Single Player game is up to you, but sharing is not always caring.

Honestly, I'm not sure any of us here can ever really answer this question. Fallout 4 has a very good story to it, and a very particular storyline that really can only go one way. I tend to look at this whole series as a bunch of chapters in a book about the United States after World War 3.

This chapter right here has a somewhat nice protagonist (our sole survivor), who ends up united the commonwealth while looking for his/her son, the way we do it is up to us. But all the endings lead to one common goal, the commonwealth area is united under X faction.

All of the games are basically their own chapters of how that part of the United States gets united. Now maybe Fallout 5 will be a really dark game. Where our new protagonist is a real son (or daughter) of a [censored] and unites part of the US for the Enclave, or he/she helps the raiders unite and become a super power in one area.

At least I hope this is the case. There arn't enough dark games out there. I hope the somewhat nicer story of Fallout 4 has to do more with this then with making the game more socially acceptable. Because if that's the path that Bethesda decides to walk then better that they give up making Fallout games altogether.

I am not, nor have I ever criticized Bethesda or any game publisher on the story of any game they make. But changing the way you write your games in a effort to tote the social line isn't something I want to see in games. By the way, that does not make me a psychopath either.

I played Postal 1, and even a little bit of Postal 2 when it came out. Neither game motivated me to become a serial killer. Despite what our society tries to spoon feed us, music and games do NOT make people do bad things.

If i get one person out there to screw up their face and laugh after reading that, or maybe shake their head and smile to themselves, then its been worth it.

That's not what I think he is saying. I think he is saying that the alternate DLC will be different stories set within the commonwealth area. As apposed to more stuff for our main character to do. If that's the case, I'm not sure. But it might just be a genius idea!

Imagine your fallout 4 DLC, you start your next playthrough as a character working for the institute. But your working directly against the Sole survivor who is trying to find Shaun. Or, going back in time your part of the BoS group that came with Paladin Danse, but get seperated from him upon entering the Commonwealth. Your actions as a Brotherhood member leading up to their return. Or you play as a member of the Railroad on the run from the Institute after the fall of their primary base. Hell, the game being what it is. There are tons of characters that you can make and play through in the Commonwealth area leading up to the Sole Survivors conquest (For lack of a better word) of the Commonwealth.

I care about lots of things, I don't care about someone sighing in response to something i did in a video game. But fair enough lol, I'll know to ignore your comments in future.

Now that's an idea; finish the game on vault mode? Unlock start-up characters for the other factions ...

Not sure who you are talking to but my view is CORRECT and your view is WRONG. If you are ok with being wrong then so be it.

You cannot deny that the game is restricted and its clear and abundant potential as an open world sandbox has been wasted. I wouldn't even be making this thread if I didn't believe that the game had raw untapped potential.

How the Hell can you stop caring about Ciri? She is one of the best characters in gaming history! Not only that but the entire backstory is fully built up. I had no idea who my husband/wife was in Fallout 4.

Not that I'm judging or anything but....are you gay?
