The One thing i Hate about Skyrim

Post » Wed Jan 12, 2011 6:33 pm

Why did Bethesda Announce Skyrim so Early in the Year when the Game itself will be coming out by the End of the Year. :(

Why couldent they Announce it in June, atleast its Halfway through. :P

The Most Exciting thing for me is the Dragons, i mean Oblivion was Incredible and now Skyrim is Everything i Ever wanted in a Game.

Didnt they announce it December?

And @ everyone else in the thread... me too..... I think

I recently reinstalled Oblivion and Morrowind and downloaded both Arena and Daggerfall from Bethesda so that should keep me going strong until Skyrim :)

Sure that would be convenient for you but not so good from a marketing standpoint.

Don't complain... before Bethesda started announcing their game a year ahead of time, I remember there was a tendency to announce games years and years before they came. Look at Rage coming from ID software / Bethesda a few months before Skyrim. I has been around for quite a long time. Yes ID is one of the companies announcing projects years ahead of they completion and they dont seem to ready to change their ways... A few years ago you had to wait for years to see your cherished game come out... I think the developers went a little too far with this.. look at Duke Nukem Forever.... I've noticed things have gotten better in the past few years.

I've never understood how people are even able to "have nothing to do" before a game is released. I mean, what would you do if they never announced it at all?

That said, I can understand it to some extent because that is what hype does to people. It changes their focus. It's like a striptease - look but don't touch :D

Sometimes the hype is better than playing the game. It seems to me that once I actually get a game in my hands, some of the excitement dies away because it is now guaranteed that I will be playing it.

Early? They didn't announce it early in the year, they announced it late in the year. Last year. :P

for Skyrim i honestly can't think of anything i dislike straight out:

May i be bold and refresh you:

- Generic missions picked by your 2 higher skills. It means your character will basicaly walk a corridor in skill reward, harder to be an hybrid "class" not because its more rewarding or you wish, but because you end up shackled by the system.

- Everytime a generic mission is given the AI will look at where you ve been and sent you somewhere you havent been a clear time sinking and a bit killer of suspension of disbelief and a clear pain in the ass in long term. I hope this only has a % of kicking in.

- The above allied to frozen bracked LVL if places, the game froze a bracket of lvl arounf the lvl you are the first time you get in.
This allied with a randoneer system, sendig you to everywhere can be a limiting factor in how much the game is rewarding for middle to high level PC.
There s also a paradox, it send you to wander around, while at the same time it punishes you if you wander too much because the game will freeze in low lvl. And it looks a lot like the scaling lvl we seens and hated so much in OB, it seems they couldn t let loose the failed system and had to imput it in some way.
All these damage is otencial only and based on information we ve oficially got. I hope bethesda is smarter than that, but past has shown bethesda can be very smart and very dumb.
if this sadly come true it also shows they have a problem at looking at the game system in a integrated way, which can cause potential problem with gameplay.

- Generic system blending weaponry and armor use to a non important factor in the game.

- Jerkish Diablo skilltree like system instead of a natural flowing reward system. It will certainly generate a killing in the imersion.

- Lesser skill revolving basicly in the unwill to implement situation of skill use in the game. A clear tendency to remove instead of fixing.

And some more not so relevant.

Finding the holes, weakness and failures and warning the company before launch and watching them flounder or scurry around is the other half of the fun.

This is the latest an elder scrolls game has been announced in development. In fact, Todd Howard and Pete Hines have talked about waiting longer to discuss the announcement stuff to build more excitement. Anyway, I for one am glad they announced when the did, and Bethesda is far better than Blizzard or Valve, I mean, this game has a date that will be here faster than you realize I'm sure.

Haha, I don't post much in the forums but OP your a light weight ;).

I personally have been waiting for Star Wars the Old Republic for two and a half years :P, since it was announced, with an expected three quarters of a year to go. We're all lucky this game isn't coming in out in two years, imagine the same wait for the elder scrolls 5 as Tor :(, or perhaps even Duke Nukem! Not a pretty thought.

the game takes note of what i spend most of my time doing and tries to give me more stuff to do related to that, thinking (quite rightly) that i'm having fun doing those things? oh no!

would you rather an NPC give you a quest where you have to go steal something if you've spent the entire game wrecking [censored] with a warhammer?

- Everytime a generic mission is given the AI will look at where you ve been and sent you somewhere you havent been a clear time sinking and a bit killer of suspension of disbelief and a clear pain in the ass in long term. I hope this only has a % of kicking in.

how DARE the game try and find a location for a quest?

- The above allied to frozen bracked LVL if places, the game froze a bracket of lvl arounf the lvl you are the first time you get in.

i don't think you understand quite how this works. protip: it's not nearly as intrusive as Oblivion's system and does in fact provide a nice challenge for characters of all levels.

This allied with a randoneer system, sendig you to everywhere can be a limiting factor in how much the game is rewarding for middle to high level PC.
There s also a paradox, it send you to wander around, while at the same time it punishes you if you wander too much because the game will freeze in low lvl. for real i have no idea what you're trying to say here. can you clarify?

- Generic system blending weaponry and armor use to a non important factor in the game.

here either.

- Jerkish Diablo skilltree like system instead of a natural flowing reward system. It will certainly generate a killing in the imersion.

- Lesser skill revolving basicly in the unwill to implement situation of skill use in the game. A clear tendency to remove instead of fixing.

I find it is a lot easier to jump on the hype train for a game coming sooner. For instance Mortal Kombat is only a month away yet it feels like forever! I try not to even think about Skyrim... :sadvaultboy:

Thats Completly Diffrent when you Announce Skyrim and then wait 5 Years for it. (Half Life 2 Ep3) SERIOUSLY. :shakehead:

I dont mind and wouldent be surprised if the Next Elderscroll Game takes the next 5 Years to be made, but Dont EVER Announce such a Popular Franchise Game and make us wait 9 Months for it. :toughninja:

Anounce it and Release it in 3 Months time. ;)

HELL NO.
what about all the interviews and all the speculation, that wouldn't fit in a 3 month time frame!

Create hype. Get fans. Gain a market. Make money.

This way EVERYONE will know about it by the time it comes out.
