The only competition for Skyrim

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 12:11 am

Dark Souls will be hands down a far better game than the Witcher 2 could ever possibly try to hope to be and Dark Souls will fall far far far far far short of Skyrim. Pass.

I dunno about that. Witcher2 vids are just epic

I don't like the art style of The Witcher 2. While the quality itself is great, the color palette and overall of the art, is like Fable, particularly the last one.

The Witcher 1, I didn't own, but did play, and didn't particularly care for it. It was a PC game through and through. Needlessly complex and unintuitive. Sure, I figured everything out fairly fast, but a lot of it just seemed to be difficult for it's own sake. Also, they really, really pushed the [censored] in that game, like a bigger feature than the game mechanics. Hide tedious combat behind a D cup!

One thing I will say though, it was from, I think either Bioware or maybe even a Bethesda person. Someone stating how "RPG's don't compete with eachother" because they aren't like an MMORPG or an Online-focus FPS game. People beat them, and have no qualms about moving on. Or even if they don't beat them, they have no issues jumping between the two. I find that mostly true. I bounce between New Vegas and Mass Effect 1-2 all the time. So I really don't think they'll be competing, at least from a fiscal sense.

For Awards, maybe. The Witcher 2 kicks itself in the balls there from the get-go, not because it'll be necessarily inferior, but because all the Halo-tards that seem to make up gaming media wouldn't have been exposed to a properly unbiased selection.

This game was the main title of the year for me before Skyrim was announced. The first one was pure awesomeness. Will buy both for sure, it will take my time all summer, plan to walk it through a few times, it's increadibly replayable. And there will be three RPGs of the year - Witcher, Skyrim, and, sadly, Mass Effect (love the game, but how the heck it is an RPG?). svck it, DA2.

The witcher wishes it could be as good as Elder Scrolls. Trouble with Witcher is that its a MMORPG. A single player MMORPG. All the best traits of a MMORPG clumped into one single player gelatinous mass that svcks out your brains and forces you to stop calling people Gerald in favour of Geralt. Lol.

Skyrim wins.

Yeah as in all the fetch quests you do in MMORPG's, you have in Witcher. Bring X amount of items to Generic person A, but you can only get said item once you defeated X amount of creatures to get item. And it goes on and on. Not for me. I lost track of what I was supposed to be doing after the first part of the game. I prefer having quests that have stories in themselves. Something that keeps you riveted, not just something that levels you up for the sake of progression. That's why Skyrim's a winner for me.

The graphics of Witcher 2 beats Skyrim's by far.

Now that is what I call "WOW!" graphics. Very impressive.

But do graphics make a game? No.

Skyrim will beat Witcher 2 on everything else imo.

It's not ignorant. It's an opinion. Some people think it svcks, some people don't. It's the ones who say it svcks without any proof of it that are ignorant. So don't be ignorant and dismiss other peoples opinion. You'll make a fool of yourself.

I remember my friend Darrel gave me the original Witcher as a 'Here, I don't even want this anymore and cant believe I paid for it to begin with' thing and after playing it for two days I asked him if he wanted it back and he said no just throw it away. So I did. It was terrible. I'm not a fan.
I did look at the so what screens and the demo from IGN enough to tell you I'm not remotely interested in another let me down.
Demon Souls was such a hard game for me that I'm more excited for Dark Souls to relive the challenge again.
I don't know why but to this day its still the toughest game I've ever played.
The only games I'm really excited about besides Skyrim of course are Dark Souls, the new Twisted Metal,Battlefield 3/ ME3 and Diablo 3.

I think the only challenge Skyrim will have will be ME3. They have pushed and pushed Diablo 3 back so many times I'll be happy to get it within 3 years. I seriously doubt it will release in 2011.

If Skyrim was made only on PC like The Witcher 2, or if it was made to be the best it could be like Battlefield 3, it would just as good, if not better.

DICE and CD Projekt Red are predominantly PC-based game developers, and as a result they cater more to the PC crowd. BGS, on the other hand, is a multi-platform developer, with the intent of pleasing all with the same quality experience.

Also, people are more than entitle to their opinions, but The Witcher was Game of the Year and best PC game of 2007. Regardless of whether you thought it "svcked" or not, the game was very successful, and The Witcher 2 will continue that trend as this game will be bigger and better in every way.

Gotta disagree, those screenshots do not look quite as good as Skyrim so far, considering two things, the insane amount of post-processing going on in the Witcher 2 (ow my eyes) and the fact that that is mostly just scenery and skybox; you can't actually get up close to it because the Witcher operates more like Dragon Age or Final Fantasy, where you're in fairly small, enclosed areas with only the ILLUSION of a large expansive world around you.

Also I would highly disagree that the combat in the Witcher 1 was better than Oblivion, both to me were bland and stale in their own ways, but at least Oblivion didn't feel like the same three-step dance every few seconds and you had some weapon and magic variety. You could maneuver around your enemies, find cover if needed and even run away. Not so in the Witcher. I would put the Witcher in a category closer to DA (without the good characters, story or writing) or Gothic 4: Arcania (without the large world to explore). With an over-complicated alchemy system and an over-simplified character advancement system, terrible story and characterization, there really isn't much of a game there, more of a chore...

BOTH!
I prefer to play all the good rpg's out there and Witcher is hands down a good rpg. I think it's better to eat both the cake and the pie than eat the cake and bash the pie in order to make the cake look better

Mass Effect 3?

It doesn't have a definitive release date yet so far it's only "Holiday 2011" but there's a chance that it'll fall close to Skyrim, so you can't discount it.

I'm always amused by the "this game is better than that one" spats, especially when the games have not even been released yet...

... all a matter of taste, so it is hard to define "competition" amongst games... but, if you go by the usual "critical acclaim+sales" standard, I believe Batman AC is going to top them all because it has was the masses want: known entity, great graphics, wanton violence, and simple game play.

The Witcher isn't as good as Skyrim plus it's PC exclusive which will hurt it's sales and access to consoles. The Graphics might be better but that doesn't make a game.

As far as sales go I dont think the Witcher 2 stands a chance tbh. The only game I see that does is MW3 when it releases in November.

Seeing as The Witcher was one of the best RPGs in recent years, I shall be getting TW 2.....if I manage to get over this "I'm not finding video games fun anymore" period.

I don't even have a gaming PC.

If the Witcher 2 does come to console then I might buy it but there are a lot of other games I want to buy this year.

I would buy it, if I had a PC that had the slightest hope of meeting the minimum requirements, but no. Stuck on Xbox.

I've pre-ordered TW2, but I don't really see it as being competition for Skyrim.

They are both fantasy RPGs, but Skyrim doesn't come out until November. I don't think anyone is going to be debating whether to buy one or the other.

The vast majority of sales for each of these games will happen within the first few weeks or months after the release date.

I'll probably end up buying both, but The Witcher 2 is definitely on a higher rank in my book. Then there is also Risen 2, which is speculated for a 2011 release also, and which tops both of the previously mentioned. And further down the line, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which is somewhere between Skyrim and The Withcer 2.

lol, the Witcher 2 is NOT competition for Skyrim. I bet you Minecraft sells more copies than that game

The witcher 1 sold 2-3 million retail.

not including huge digital sales.

Also fail for suggesting sales = good

Justin beiber sales more than marco minnemann solo works or philip glass's orchestral works, but in 200 years justin beiber will not be looked at as the pinnacle of western music culture. Just like in todays world we view mozarts work as superb but not the music of the lower orders at the time.

And you're comparing this to Oblivion right?
