Am I the only one not playing this game 100% seriously?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:42 pm

Hello. Am I the only one who does not live myself 100% into this game, and do every single thing that there is to do there? Because 80% of the time when I play Skyrim, I just walk around in the wilderness doing nothing, and finding random places. Does anyone else play the game like that? :)

I'm doing this...wandering around, doing exploration, ...no horse, just me walking.
If it's getting boring i always have some quest that i can do (oh and i still have to visit 4-5 cities for my first time).

I'm Level 45 with this character and haven't even spoken to the Grey Beards yet, pretty much spend most of my time looking for cool new locations and stuff or hanging about the towns and cities. So yeah, I don't really play it seriously or anything.

i used to just free roam and explore every thing i found right then and there but I'm playing the game without fast travel so after a dungeon/quest or two Ive reached my carry limit so i head to the nearest carriage and head home. now unless i have the space in my inventory i wont discover anyplace new.

I do what you do for a day or so, then spend a day questing, then back again to walking the wilderness. Found some great dungeons. One up north took me about 5 hours to clean up. It was a little stronger than I was, so not an easy walk-through - which made it great.

But that's what I like about this game (and the earlier ones), it's wide open and you can do what you want. After almost 6 years of WoW/Rift, it's a welcome change.

I sort of play this way, but because I get distracted. To accomplish a quest I really have to focus on getting there. All to often while walking to where I have to go, I see something in the distance or on the compass and change directions. It is both fun and frustrating.

That's still very serious and it's 100% living in the game. I'm going to tell you what's not serious and not living 100% in the game : a character with a stupid name exploiting AI to make other characters do stupid things, jumping everywhere and facerolling everyone. Pickpockting to the bones, drying a whole house off all the pickable items just to have them stupid NPC look at me blankly in the middle of an empty room or send thugs at me for a collection of "contracts". And of course taking screenshots of all the stupid situations created like that.

TES games have always been about bugs and weird glitches. We have to find new way to have fun now we can't cast levitate on cliff racers so they crash. :)

Depends on my mood.

I think Skyrim's at its best when you turn off the music, crank up the sound and just head out into the wilderness. The ambient sound svcks you right in.

Yet, sometimes I like to get things done, too. There are good quests in here, and the rewards for finishing a chain are usually worth it.

I'm not dressed up in leather armor sitting in front of my computer if that's what you mean. I enjoy playing this game with a bourbon and some smokes.

You bastard! Blasphemy!

Anyway, I don't think I can consider my gaming style "serious"

im at level 38 and still haven't been to some cities. usually i sit down with a bunch of ambitions about finishing questlines or advancing the MQ...but then, off in the distance. I see an elk...and I just can't let him live. So I sneak up on him, draw my bow, take aim and down he goes. Then as I am skinning him, I see a patch of ore that needs to be mined, then a bandit that needs killing, then a dragon that needs absorbing, etc and before I know it an hour has gone by and i'm at my carry weight limit and I have to make the long trek back to Whiterun. To me, this is the mark of a great game.

@OP: That's what makes these games great!!!

7PM: :Ok, time to get a little further in the Thieve's Guild questline.

1AM: What the hell did I just spend all of my time doing? I didn't even get to Riften.

Ohh yeah. And the best is, there is possibility to do quests fast for the ppl who playing game for the quests. I mean you can fast travel, or get carriage everywhere, and if you cant fast travel, you can just run to the spot, finish the part, then fast travel back. But you can ignore the fast travel, explore, enjoy the random encounters. You dont have to walk on foot if you have bad mood, but its an option, and thats great. This game is optimal to anyone IMO.

Since i saw great NPC vs NPC fight at night, i ignore fast travel. From a distance i saw fireballs flying from ground to the sky. I asked myself WTF i wanna find out where that comes from. I ran to the spot, saw a mage fought a swordsman. They ignored me all the time, till i helped to kill the mage, becuase i hate mages, imo its easymode. OFC the guy didnt said "thank you" for it, but i dont care. Was awesome to see that not just i get attacked. Its a living world, and not just enviroment vs player.

I do that all the time actually. I have over 40 hours and still a level 21, I believe. But when it comes to quests and story, I have to admit, I am fully immersed and feel like I'm actually there. Thats how serious I take it. I enjoy it.

Ohh~ My Morrowind days~

No not anymore sadly. I feel like I need to actually do something, I do not know why....

I do like immersion but I think I overkill myself on quests.

I would do that if enemy spawns would be randomized in the wilderness but since they aren't and you have to fight the same enemies in the same place all over again it's just boring and waste of time.

I blitzed the Main Quest on my first character. My current just wanders doing quests here and there. I'm putting off the Main Quest (I didn't even follow Ralof to Riverwood).
