Am I the only one not using horses?

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 6:01 pm

I stopped using my horse when I noticed I ran faster and could sprint longer while on foot.

I was never without a horse in Oblivion. They were faster than walking, which was a great help since I never fast travel. They were helpful in a fight. I kept my 3rd horse for literally years. In Skyrim, I do not believe they add any speed. I don't like the forced 3rd person view. And mine died in the first 5 minutes due to a misjudgment of how steep a hill was.

I'll wait for a future patch if there is one.

If you want speed while on a horse, you need to hold ALT to sprint. Just like sprinting without a horse.

The horses are always so goofy. I hate 'em. What horse in the world would run up to a bear and start punching it in the face? They oughta be skittish and kick from behind.

One would also have to dismount every time they needed to pick an herb or kill a wolf. Nope. More trouble than they're worth.

I use horses all the time. The only downside, in my opinion, is that they die too easily. I've gone through 8 horses so far (41 hours in), including one that I got for free, which was named (RIP Frost

can someone please answer me... could horses walk backwards in oblivion? i swear they could.

Yes they could walk backwards, at about the same slow and hesitant pace that a real horse does! A lot of the gates to the paddock of the stables outside cities opened outwards, and the best way to get your horse in the stable was to ride up to the gate, activate the gate while still mounted, and walk your horse backwards to avoid the opening gate, then into the paddock. I'd have gone spare if I had to dismount and remount to get my horse through a gate!

Not used a horse in Skyrim because I love horses and get upset if they die - when the Creation Kit is released and I can look up the horse IDs to set mine as unkillable I might get one (just for roleplaying purposes, not to use as a tank or anything!), but until then I'm going everywhere on foot or by carriage :D I also want to ride in 1st person, I'd rather not be in 3rd person view. If there's no mod for that eventually, I probably won't bother with horses at all.

No. Too annoying. For the reasons already covered. You can't attack from horseback, you can't even defend. If you dismount, your horse does stupid things (exactly like what happened in TES4, apparently we didn't learn anything from that). My feet work almost as well and without the annoyances.

The game is much more immersive and larger while on foot so no horses for me. Also after you have played red dead redemption no horse riding in any other game will feel or look right anway.

This game is an adventure fantasy which reminds me most of the Hobbit and the Fellowship if the ring. It needs to be done on foot to get the most adventure out of it!

I'll definitely use a horse every where, trotting, not galloping though

I'm glad most here agree with me. Skryim is a wonderful world to explore, and on foot is just fine with me. I'll sprint somewhere if I need to, but usually use the standard walk. Plus, I also don't like forced 3rd person persective while riding horses.

I realized running as a Werewolf was faster. Haven't used a horse since.

Am I the only one who believes in horses? I love my horse!

Despite what you might think, they are faster than running.

Anja loves her horse. I think horses were well-implemented for a TES game. Trotting along at a leisurely place is unusually satisfying...

I rarely use any horses due to that my companion don't have one, if i want to go to one place faster then walking/running i use the trusty horse & wagon service....i never use fast travel by clicking on the map tho.

I remember buying a horse for 1000 gold when I was around level 10....

It died very soon after, I couldn't protect it....

I was going to my destination and something attacked us, I can't remember exactly what, and it died very quickly.

I haven't used a horse since.

I've never owned a horse, much less rode on one, but I walk on foot, or fast travel sometimes. Unless I'm wrong, you can't fight on horseback, so it doesn't mean a whole lot for me, although once I save enough money, I may buy myself a good horse.

I don't use horses. Granted I've not tried to ride one of the faster horses.

I stole a horse from the Bandits outside Whiterun, I used it to enable my character to fast travel into the city (I was over-encumbered). I imagine it is probably sitting in the stables... I'll use horses once they are modded somewhat (smarter + companions get one).

I stole a horse and rode it all of 30 seconds. I prefer to walk.

I bought a horse and when it died less than an hour later I decided it wasn't worth 1000. Besides, can't stealth on a horse.

That's funny. I bought a cool war dog for the hell of it. Took him into a mine right away, he charged in barking, got attacked by 3 guys at once and was dead. Oh well, lesson learned. Poor dog.

Don't use horses of the reason other have listed: followers and combat but also as I hunt and gather while walking, the local wildlife provide hides and minnor souls for enchant training.

I would like horses if they weren't all suicidal, if there was a faster dismount, if they could be tethered... Maybe some of this can be fixed with mods, but until then they are nothing but a novelty for roleplaying purposes.

Maybe the speed issue can be fixed via the developer console (click horse, modav speedmult 50).
