Am I the only one not using horses?

Found it funny how they managed to make it worse than Oblivion.

No first person view on them and you can't talk to anyone while riding one.

I rarely use my horse. I depend on clairvoyance and I have to get off my horse to use it so it gets annoying and I rarely ride it. Also I hate how I have to get off and fight and the horse comes and fights with me and I risk losing it and enemies often attack the horse instead of me. It's only a bit faster than walking tbh.

I bought 1 for 1000 gold, realised how slow it was and that companions ran behind you so i jumped in the river from a highish point, it died, we walked away with less gold

yea and you cant talk to anyone on them! and even if you could talk to them, but you slightly ran past someone so you wanted to back up.. you couldnt back up! instead you would have to run forwards in a big roundabout!

as fun as the game is, these kind of things drive me insane.. just.. why?

in this whole thread, there was like 1 person that said they like the horses. i hope bethesda reads these forums because there are some things about the game that they did a downright terrible job with... and i fear they wont patch these kinds of things.

Horse = Pointless.

We need Mount & Blade style horse combat!

I don't use em. I generally despise horses in games.

Except for Red Dead Redemption. They did it right.

Yeah cant believe i wasted 1000 on a horse, dont seem to be faster than i am on feet, cant store things on it or attack or do something useful from it, so every second minute i have to get off to kill a couple of wolfes or something, dont even able to sell it so i just left him, but then if i fasttravel hes there again, i guess only thing left to try is making hamburgers :/

Level 26 and never used a horse either. I like to alternate sprinting and keep my weapon handy for any sudden attacks.
Oblivion put me off horses in TES games.

Used once. It would be better to throw 1000 gold out of window.

I usually walk (not run) on foot a lot, but I love the horse animations in this game and ride them when I am questing. Even on horseback I still walk or trot, and then gallop when I am turning a quest in. I am level 16, 50 hours in the game, haven't lost a horse yet, still on my first. A horse will run and hide if you fight something dangerous like a dragon, but they're close enough to find still.

Really, I find you can actually climb a lot of mountains when you're on a horse... it doesn't make sense but oh well.

Im playing an orc. And even though I use heavy armor, I tend to run.
having a stamina pool in the 300 range means I can actually sprint, despite using heavy armor, for quite some time.

But above all. Orcs run.

And last but not least, I am very confident that a horse would slow me down rather then speed things up, since I tend to climb alot to find shortcuts.
And as a last note, I fast travel alot to close places, but obviously run around to discover, I really dont see a need for horse at all. It would just mean I need to jump off everytime I harvest herbs as well, so in the long run it would waste my time rather then shorten it.

They make nice distractions for enemies and they can take quite a beating. My horse is usually a better "tank" than Lydia is.

I much prefer to walk than ride one. Anyone else?

Same here never bothered one yet at least.

Bought 1 for 1000 gold and used it for a couple levels, it died when a couple bears got it. I was sick of the horse charging into battle against dragons and whatnot so I didn't load back to before the horse died and haven't rode another since. If they were a bit more like RDR and we could do some kind of attack from horseback it would be worth it. There's always hope for mods I guess...

I dont use horses, I run everywhere, how does carriage system work anyway? Is it like fast travel but you lose money? Is there a sort of cutscene? What?

My two cents. Well i like the idea of horses in TES games. they fit the backdrop. But they arent implemented well. If they had some kind of benefit barr being slightly faster than running then they might be usefull.

Maybe they could have some carry space for extra items. Or if there was an animal affinity stat that increased through riding horses and allowed you to train animals or somthing like that. Anything more than what they are now. At the moment they seem cosmetic only.

I bought one but I lost it somehow and I never bothered getting another one. Too annoying with no horse combat and having to dismount to kill something all the time.

Once i realized you couldn't fight on horseback (not even shoot a bow!?) then every encounter was a headache. Now I run barefoot, swift like the wind baby

Red dead redemption is the only game that got horses right, riding fast and shooting enemies on horseback was perfect

My horse is a path to riches if I'm off to a dwemer ruin. You can't fast travel when overloaded and you crawl about at a snails pace loaded up with all that metal, but drag yourself outside, hop on your horse and ride away at full gallop and you got yourself a fortune provided you can smith with what you end up smelting down. That dwemer metal is heavy!

Otherwise horses are a bit of initial fun, but yeah, need some fixes :)

Horses are good for exploration due to better speed than running.

Otherwise, they are phail.

Not planning to use a horse, ever, in this game. I like to wander around on foot, like a true... how should I put it.. wanderer.
