Am I the only one that creates just one character?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 1:19 am

I see the majority of people here like to create and play with multiple characters. Whilst I wish I could do this, I only have enough time and energy to make one character. I was the same in Oblivion. Don't you guys find it annoying being back at level 1 and having to go through the process of levelling up, dungeon crawling, getting mauled by Bears and Saber cats etc, all over again?

I am a level 20 red guard now and I doubt I'll make another character. Although I'd like to, I just think the freshness will be gone if I am replaying quests again.

Anyone else that does this?

I voted NO, but with so many gamers playing TES, I doubt you are the only one.

I'll probably -create- other characters, just to mess around with other stuff, but I have one real character, and that's usually how I do it.

I usually end up being an assassin in TES, but I dabble in the mages guild and companions. I'm not a big role player for my character. I don't create a back story for them or anything. I just take the approach of, if it looks like a fun quest, I'll do it!

i need to play with more than just one character to be able to see everything.

i can't do imperials, companions, db and so on with one character... i always go either more in the good guy or in the bad guy direction. i can't be both. just impossible for me.

the problem with having only one character is mostly the fact that certain questlines involve a choice in a matter, such as the legion/stormcloaks, or killing parthanax/spareing him, youll never know both sides of the story unless you play through multiple times. also its no fun to have to play as JUST a fighter, or mage and never change things up. sure you can start to practice magic and learn new spells, but youll never be a full mage or other type.
thats the wonder of Bethesda is the effort they put into their games to have such a huge world, and have such high replay value

I'm not a big dungeon crawler either. I think Skyrim may be the game I change my ways. I've never played as a pure mage, or an archers. I'm very tempted to be a wood elf hunter. Khajit look amazing too.

I was a dark elf warrior mage in Oblivion, that was fun.

I'm 95 hours in with my Khajiit assassin, and I haven't even been vaguely tempted to start another character. I've matured as a gamer from Oblivion. :)

I JUST created a second mage character, my first one is a lvl 40 DW fighter with 80 hours logged. I'm not halfway done with him, not sure when I will either :P, and won't continue on the mage until I'm done with the first one. BUT in rpg USUALLY it's interesting to see how six/race/class choices would affect the game, plus there are factions to choose too so I'm probably going to play the second time when I finish the first one just to see the differences :)

I created new characters to improve on the one I have since you can't change perks.

I tend to restart only if I'm not happy with something regarding my character.

I wish I could get in to other characters, but I find it so frustrating when you're level 1-10 or so and you've got no gear and no coin etc. I can get over it, when it's a totally new experience. I don't know if I could repeat that again and again.

I only ever play one at a time. I get bored at about level 30 though. About the same level I get bored on Oblivion too.

I normally alternate between mage, assassin, and warrior builds. Though mage is excluded from Skyrim for me giving the state of the spells.

I try to make a different type of character so that the actual gameplay feels different between each play through.

Making a ton of niche builds and characters is the way to play IMO. You get more out of the game, over a longer period of time than with a JOAT, or just ignoring other play styles with only one build.

My problem is I end up trying to incorporate every kind of build in to one character. I need to be more disciplined and stick to one kind of play style for each character...

You're not alone OP. I make more characters but only after I'm totally done with the first one. I don't seem to suffer from the restartitis that some people do.

I guess it's because after playing so many RPGs including all the other TES games, I already know what builds I enjoy playing and don't feel the need to experiment with making new characters much.

My pure mage is level 55 now and I'm still loving it. Actually dreading the day I feel like he's done everything and then have to make a new character.

I'll usually play one character until there isn't much left to do (or nothing left to do, depending on the game) then if I like the game I'll create new characters for subsequent playthroughs, playing one at a time until I either get bored with them or run out of stuff to do. One thing I'm doing a little differently in Skyrim though is, rather than going for 100% completion every time, I'm only doing the quests that make sense for the character. Like my current one, he's a vampire assassin, but looks down on stealing and cannibalism, so those two guilds are out. Seems like there's enough content in this game that you can fully develop a character without having to do absolutely everything.

I have zero desire to redo quests. I'd make a new one, maybe, if I finished, but I don't see that happening. I never "finished" Oblivion. I established a successful potion business. Mostly In IC, but we had branches all over Cyrodil, for your combat needs!

I like a bit of yin and yang light and darkness. Playing characters of the opposite six and with polar opposite outlooks on life helps to satisfy this need not to mention makes things even more interesting then they already are. I do tend to stick to one character more then the other. Guess it depends on the time of the year which one i spend more time with.
