Am I the only one that doesn't want the 3DS for the 3D?

I only want the 3DS so I will be ready for when they inevitably stop making DS games for the older models. Anyone else?

I don't want it for the 3D either. In fact, I doubt I will ever play with the 3D on. 3D usually gives me a headache.

However I do indeed want a 3DS for the eventual Pokemon games released on it :P I'll wait for the next generation, though, since the battery life on the 3DS right now is really sub-par

My interest in the 3DS is mostly based on its games, so I don't plan on using the 3D unless it's actually beneficial to gameplay. I think Nintendo made a mistake when they decided to incorporate the 3D as heavily into the system's pitch. Many folks see it as the only selling point, or think that's it's just a regular DS with 3D.

From what I hear it's not too bad if you don't use the 3D or have the brightness too high, but it's still pretty close to Nintendo's figures (~8 hours). Nyko already has a http://nyko.com/products/product-detail/?name=Power+Pak%2B in the works, which is said to double the system's battery life, but it's a bit bulky so I'll wait to see what other companies come up with. Not that I really play my handhelds on the go, but it'd be nice to be able to take it on a trip or something.

I would really like to see the 3D and the effectives. I hear its great. Normally I am not a fan of most movies with 3d due to the dim glasses, cheesy looking effects and story breaks just to make stuff fly at you... it takes away form the story line and turns into a gimmicky mess.

I would have to see the 3D first and see how much it added to game play. I believe it would be a reason to buy it over another system.

That's basically where I am at the moment. I'll need to see one in real life, but it had better be pretty damn good to justify its selling price.

I'm getting probably somewhere around 18 or so hours (judging from save times) on my DS lite right now, so I'm a bit spoiled I guess, but anything sub-12 hours is not acceptable in my book

Yeah, I don't care too much about the 3D.

I was thinking about getting the 3DS for two reasons. One, I've never owned a DS so it would probably be best to start with a new one. Two, I want to play the Ocarina of Time remake when it comes out.

The 3D is like a nice little bonus, and I really like how you can just turn it off (with 3D with the glasses everything is just blurry when you take them off). Oh yeah and Pilot Wings should be cool too.

I heard the new Motorola Tab AD and it said it has a 3D interface... I will have to look it up and see if that meant its like the 3DS... I think they would make a bigger deal of it if it did.

Im really excited for Prof Layton vs Phoenix Wright and the Paper Mario remake. I'll probably wait for the 3DS Lite to come out first

Im not getting it for the 3d either. i want it for the game library that will come with it, the fun factor, and the power of the system. sure i can get the ngp but i hated the psp and it just doesnt appeal to me. i view it as a big improvement from the NDS and the 3d is an added plus. im glad its just optional.

I think I will probably mess with the 3D for a few minutes but ultimately I will not use it. I have never owned a DS but I have always wanted one, I grew up with the GBA and the DS just takes me back. I don't really travel much so battery life isn't a problem for me. I'll keep it plugged in if I have to. How long do you guys think it will take for the price to go down a bit? I really think that price is ridiculous for a Handheld, 3D or not a handheld should not go over 100 dollars. I wonder how much a used one will be. The DSi will inevitably go down should I buy a DSi then when the 3DS goes down sell the DSi to go towards the 3DS? Probably better off just buying a 3DS to start with.

To Sasholon, they would be crazy to make the 3D be mandatory, it would lose a lot of prospective buyers and really limit the games for it. I just hope the new games wont have crap flying at the screen being all cheesy even when you dont use the 3D, Kinda like when you see a 3D movie trailer on TV and crap is flying at the screen, it just looks stupid.

no. get the 3ds instead. its backwards compatible with the original DS titles anyway so its basically 2 ds systems in one. its pricey because of the specs (suppose to rival the wii) and i guess the 3d.

prices probably wont go down until the next iteration of the 3ds. the 3ds slim so to speak.

Not saying that I won't use it from time to time, but the real reason why I wanted this was for the the upgrade in graphics.

I for one can't see 3D as well as other people can, but whenever I do I get a massive headache that feels like I have an addiction to nicotine that hasn't been fed for awhile. ha. I'm glad other people like it, but it is not for me. If I ever got a 3DS I wouldn't turn the 3D on (though I am not particularly interested in portable game systems anymore).

This uses a different technology than the movie or home TV use. So, most likely you will not have the same bad vibes from the 3DS.

Nintendo has made the battery on the 3DS removable, and even provides instructions. Also, I know of at least 1 third party battery that has been announced which improves on the battery life for a little extra bulk.

As for the 3D, I don't care much for it now, and I'll likely play with it off for the most part, but I am somewhat interested to see what can be done with it once developers learn how to use it properly.

Then you'll never own a modern handheld. I can't even find regular DS under 100 unless it's a super special deal somewhere. DSi's cost around 140-180, same for DSXLs. PSP3000's and up cost 140+, the new PSP 2(NGP? I htink it's called) is likely going to have a price point of 250-350, possibly more. The days of a <100 handheld system are long gone unfortunately.

I can't even see 3D effects in movies(Avatar was the only one that KINDA worked... but even then, I think half of it was just wishful thinking), so I'm definitely not getting it for the 3D.

Actually, with the price-point I'm not going to get it at all. WAAY too expensive for a portable gaming system IMO. Which svcks cause I'd love to play the games that are coming out on it(ZELDA!), and my old DS(the original version, actually) is beginning to fall apart(bumpers don't work anymore).

Oh well, with the way phones are going these days, I don't even really need something like the DS anymore. Maybe if I can find one for cheap on eBay or something I'll get it someday.

The battery is removable on all DS units, that's nothing new.

Just buy an N64 for 20 bucks and a used Zelda cartridge.

Any other advantages of the 3DS compared to the DS besides the 3D, and the fact that newer games won't be compatible with the old DS?

I think that most people who look forward to 3DS don't care about 3D. I see comments everywhere about people saying they will play with 3D off, and earlier this week I read a review of the 3DS and the reviewer turned 3D off after 15 minutes to never use it again.

Much more powerful hardware. The DS is kinda on a PS1 level while the 3DS is on a PS2 level, sort of. So even when you play with 3D off, the games will be noticeably prettier.

I don't care about the 3D functions of the 3DS myself. Mostly, I'd want it for the games released on it, that's usually what I'd buy a console of any kind for, not much reason to buy one if I don't want any of the games released for it. But even though that's the case, I can still appreciate the technical improvements a new console brings over its predeccessor, usually. But in this case, I really don't care about the new 3D fad, for me, the only kind of "3D" I really need in games is the kind where in-game graphics are represented by polygonal models, which we've been seeing for a long time already.

I suspect I'll play 3DS games without 3D anyway, if given the choice.

I want it for MGS3, Orcarina of Time, Kingdom Hearts and maybe Pokemon. I am not interested in 3D or its price what so ever. I going to wait for 3DS to drop in price. I'd rather pay 299 for a PSP2, which looks better in my opinion.

i totally forgot about MGS3! that looked beautiful when they showed pics of it!

Im sure the 3d function will eventually get stale with the inevitable plethora of shovelware titles. im going to be careful with what games i buy since they jacked up the price on games.
