Am I the only one who's disappointed?

Post » Sat Jan 08, 2011 8:57 am

In the main plot line I mean. It just sounds pretty generic, and dull. I was excited about the Akaviri possibility, new enemies, and possibly continents to explore, etc... The Alduin thing just makes me think of the crappy ending to the main storyline of oblivion. Any-hoo, it's early yet, and we don't know much, it's ES, and it will be a fun game I'm sure, just wondering if anyone else is a little disappointed in the lackluster plot.

No, I'm absolutely not disappointed. There's nothing to be disappointed about - yet. We'll just have to wait and see how the storyline turns out in the end, it could be both insanely awesome and complex, but it could also be a huge disappointment. I'm obviously hoping for the first

I'd say you're probably not the only person judging the game with absolutely no personal knowledge or experience of it and only rumors that may or may not be true as a guideline for a story you're disappointed about yet know nothing about.

Not really, we hardly know anything about the story at this point, besides theres dragons, and we kill em. I'm sure it will be a deep, lore filled story, with some twists and whatnot.

The dragons most likely are Akaviri.

You know that, right?

I think that if done incorrectly it could be generic. But I really think Bethesda has learned a lot from their recent games. It really seems like Skyrim is going to be Bethesda's crowning achievement, with all of the past games plotlines culminating to the northern reach of Tamriel...SKYRIM. DUHDUHDUH. @Epic.

Seriously though, I think they're going to really do a gnarcore job on it.

I'm too preoccupied with eager anticipation to be disappointed. I'll reassess in 11 months.

Dragons? Civil War? Alduin being the antagonist? I'm the hero, this time? It sounds great, to me.

I disagree. Don't know enough of the details to judge. Gotta have faith man.

I think the civil war in skyrim will add another layer to the overall story too.

Ultimately I think this is their attempt to bring closure to this era in elder scrolls lore, and perhaps with the next ES game and the dawn of a new era we'll get some war with Akavir.--all speculation of course.

edit: It can be reasonably assumed that the end of skyrim will come with the defeat of Alduin and the eradication of the dragons from Tamriel. It can also be more loosely assumed that our character--the main protagonist--will rise to become ruler of Tamriel, because of his part in this victory. Now follow me here. If the little knowledge that the people of Tamriel have of dragons leads them to believe that they are from Akavir, and they just suffered a brutal and widespread attack by these dragons, then with the dawn of a new era and a new ruler, uniting the lands--one whose disposition towards dragons would be poor--then one could assume that this new ruler and the new empire that would be forged in his reign would have a good motive and a strong desire to retaliate for the attack. So my prediction is TES VI: Akavir, it will all tie together, as all of Tamriel declares war on Akavir!

edit#2:Of course for this theory to work TES VI: Akavir would have to begin roughly 150 years after the end of skyrim. Our character that became ruler of Tamriel would be long dead(perhaps assasinated to solve any problems that the longevity of elves would present) and forever remembered in ES lore as 'Dovahkiin' or 'Dragonborn' for the sake of maintaining a vague identity. The campaign against Akavir would be well underway(spearheaded by our descendants of course) and our new character, at the start of Akavir, would wake up as a prisoner of war in some Tsaesci dungeon in some remote city in the belly of the mysterious continent, and have to fight his way out or stealthily escape.

Stop perpetuating this Akaviri nonsense! Tamriel also has dragons, but we haven't heard or seen them in ages. Also, that source of Akavir is very likely outdated and fully of misinterpretations.

How can I be dissapointed with a game I've not played yet or even seen running? We have only heard about the most tiniest basic part of the story so far, I think it'd hugely unfair to BGS to judge Skyrim on the scant details we have.

If they share some of their focus to writing there is a possibility that they can get something new out of the old'n tired "An ancient evil arises and you are the chosen one destined to stop it" premise. Dunno though, their priorities have laid elsewhere in recent years with their last couple of games.

To be honest I wasn't "blown away" the first time I watched the trailer. CGI looked impressive but I thought the whole Gregorian Chant in the background was a bit cliche.
That being said I wasn't overly disappointed with the basic story premise, just the presentation.

We'll see how the story unfolds when the game comes out. Hopefully the background music won't be all Viking music and chants......

Its not like the Dragons are generic fantasy dragons anyway, even Todd said in the new interview that they don't even breathe fire, they speak in their tongue to conjure/summon/create fire, ice, wind, etc.

Lol, someone wants a non dull main quest from TES. And I want a flying pony  But then I don't play TES for the main story. I haven't ever completed one despite playing a hundred hours of Oblivion and more for Morrowind.

The devious dragons are plotting to kill off the Nords through a combination of fast food and lack of exercise. Thats right, they are opening a chain of Mc'Donalds joints and giving everyone a free subscription to WoW. There is no hope!

Why do you say that? The only reason the dragons are even able to come back is because the Septim line was ended. The old Emperors were of the Dragonborn; these Dragonborn dudes are the reason Tamriel is dragon-free, they are able to fight the dragons on another level (they possess certain powers, anointed by the Aedra I believe, which comparable to the dragons themselves), and they are able to light the dragon fires.

You could be right though, I mean I don't have much reason to say they aren't from Akavir....but there is also no reason to say they say they aren't from Atmora, Yokunda, Aldmeris, Cathnoquey or any of several other continents.

...If we want to start making some neat guesses as to where the story will end up, my guess is that your character becomes the next Emperor of Tamriel (or at least King of Skyrim).

Is this a serious thread? Really? I'm new here, but jeez. C'mon.
You know absolutely nothing about the storyline of this game. Nothing at all. Except that it has dragons in it. That's it. You have nothing to be disappointed about.

I'm talking more specifically about the Ka Po' Tun, who were trying to transform themselves into dragons at the last count, and one of them has succeeded. He's called Tosh Raka, which is suspiciously similar to a certain world eater's merish Alessian name...
