Am I the only one who is excited?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:50 am

When I heard that Skyrim was coming out I nearly [censored] myself from the excitement. I've been keeping a close eye on it and I'm really hyped up for its release, even though it's almost a year away. However, many people on these forums seem angry and frustrated because they think it will have some sort of fault or it is doing something different. Is anyone else actually happy that the game is actually coming out, after all these years? All I've heard is criticism, and the game isn't even out yet! The reason I think many people are displeased with Skyrim is because they are critiquing it as if it was an expansion for Morrowind, Daggerfall, or other TES games that they played before. The fact is, Skyrim is a totally new game. It has new systems and styles and it is not going to be like the older games. I think that many people are rating Skyrim against the older games only, and not looking at it by itself. If you look at it that way, of course it's not going to live up to your expectations! It's not going to be exactly like the older games. Skyrim could be something new and completely different, and many of you are discounting it off the bat because it does not match up with your previous experiences. They are being critical of the game because old features are removed and they are used to having these old features. Besides the fact that we barely have any information about the game currently, what we do know is that these old features are being replaced or augmented with newer ones. Why not give this new game a chance by itself? Take it like this: look at Skyrim as if it were the only TES game. Does it look good or bad to you?

I think most people are just worried because they love Elder Scrolls so much. However! If this was a real relationship you would be driving it away by being a doom-sayer jerk people! :P

It's my most anticipated game in a long time. I'm excited about all the new information and believe that Bethesda will deliver a wonderful experience that I will spend thousands of hours in.

I used to be pumped as all hell, but then I heard about attributes, birthsigns, and spell making being removed.

Now, I'm indifferent. I'm not too happy, but I still have a small amount of faith that Bethesda will make something decent out of it all.

I'm excited as hell. Everything I've heard so far sounds like it has the potential to be a huge improvement over what the series has done so far. Bethesda is full of smart people and they value The Elder Scrolls series and hold it to high standards. I have complete faith in them to make an awesome game. It won't be perfect, because no game is, but you can be certain it'll be fun as hell and a great experience. I look forward to the hundreds of hours I'm going to spend playing Skyrim.

And all three of those things could have been a mistranslation. Two of which, haven't even been mentioned at all except for wild speculation. You have no reason to worry....

I will play the game for many many hours regardless of how many Toggle-able things they are putting into it. Even though most people will be turning those toggles to OFF.

I think it's just that it isn't the hardcoe "TES" that it should be.

I'm just lucky I started during Oblivion! I'm uber excited for Skyrim!

The new combat system sounds so good.

Anger is also a very exciting emotion. Which leads to hate. Which leads to suffering. Which leads to the Dark Side :cold: . Which is leading all of us right now to...

SKYRIM! :swear:

my head exploded when I first heard.

they're adding things that I think will be freaking awesome (possibly crafting, smithing, mining), but they are cutting just as many things that I liked. so if every thing is exactly as they seem in the moment (when ever are they really any ways?) I will be dissapointed with skyrim, not because I think its worse, but because imo it will have not improved as much as it could have.

I think it just appears that way because the people with stuff to complain about tend to be more vocal. Honestly, I wish they'd wait to play the game before writing off it's features... some people are total conservatives, and adverse to any change.

Personally, I can't wait.

A lot of great concepts and changes that made sense to me. Personally I can see this stacking up to be my favourite TES game yet.

I also take a lot of joy in knowing probably 90% of these naysayers are still going to buy it day one and eat their words when they've logged 200+ hours into the game and forgot what they were initially complaining about.

The part about spell making isn't a mistranslation. The guy who translated it from the Italian mag speaks fluent Italian.

It may be slight misunderstanding, but not a mistranslation.

But why is it bad that those things are being removed? Bethesda is adding a lot of new things to make up for it, so how do you know the game will be hurt by it?

Because those things are what helped to define TES in the past. No matter how good the system is, I seriously doubt you can fully replace attributes and birthsigns with perks, and you can't replace spell making if you have nothing to replace it with in the first place.

I'm withholding my judgement for now, but as of now, I'm not too happy.

Also, I'm going to be avoiding the forums for about the first two years, or so, after the game is released. It's nothing personal, but this place will be full of doom and gloom.

I'm starting to get to that point too. I can't understand why people are so anxious to call Skyrim awful. It's like they WANT it to be bad or something. I want it to be good, so it's easy for me to look on the bright side of every single bit of information we've gotten so far. It sounds like it'll be one of the best in the series, yet you'd think it's the worst judging from all of the negativity.

there has been an equel number of posts saying that the people complaining are stupid, and alot tend to be flame baits. most people don't want to wait until the game to voice their opinion because once the game is finished their not going to fix the huge problems that people are adressing now. the only time the devs have made a huge change because of mass displeasure was broken steel.
