Am I the only one who likes this game?

I could name a couple of posters by their avatar that make up like... 70% of the negative posts

Just want to say it's also true for those defending the game.

Actually, I found out that for some people enjoying != liking, for some reason. I did not understand that myself though.

People can be weird sometimes.

I think it is a "Yeah this meal is great and all, I'm really enjoying it, but I so had my heart set on *insert other meal here*.

Just keep in mind that if no one complained — particularly in the game's early stages — Bethesda would remain largely unaware of glitches and performance issues. Of course, gathering as much information as possible and submitting intelligent bug reports helps more than complaining, but people get angry when they've been hyped about a game for years and then can't play it (or can barely play it) for whatever reason.

The arguments about game mechanics can probably wait a few months, though, at least outside the modding forum. I've personally posted a single thread about game mechanics, and that was speculation on which new skills they ought to add in TES VI, not any particular complaining about the current system.

There are a lot of whiny kids and trolls at the moment, yes, but the game mechanics need to be complained about at some point. Bethesda needs feedback. Complaining about Oblivion's game mechanics is what made Skyrim end up being an amazing game. Criticism is vitally important to any good artist, musician, author, or any creator of anything. Happy, content customers who don't complain don't help to strengthen the series.

Enjoy the game =\= it's flawless

Complaining or pointing out flaws = you want the game to be better in the future(at least to me)

Take dual wielding as example.
When Oblivion was released people complained the lack of dual wielding. Now it's in Skyrim.
If no one ever talked about it back in 2006, I doubt if dual wielding will appear in Skyrim. At least that could be a contributing factor to it.

There's a difference between criticising and complaining. Saying 'Oh this game is gay, WTF did I waste my money on this broken piece of [censored] that I can barely play. TES is dead,' is alot less helpful than saying 'I think this mechanic needs to re-balancing. Here are some ways to do so, and which method I think would be the best for the benefit of the game.' I love this game, but I have my complaints too. But when you love something, you work around the falws(that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get them fixed though).

This game has already had 3 patches and it hasn't even been a month yet since its release. I think that says something. Atleast they're not ignoring the game like some other developers do.

in general people come to forums to complain, people who are having fun are typically playing the game or doing other stuff, not visiting forums. though there are some like you and me who do come to forums to see how other people are playing and enjoying the game and maybe getting new ideas for new playthroughs.

Lets get something straight about this "everyone complains about Skyrim" business.

http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/browse.php?name=skyrim

  • Skyrim PC: 1.11
  • Skyrim 360:3.04
  • Skyrim PS3:1.66

Thats 5.81 MILLION copies. Now, there are 264,265 members on this site, and only a fraction of those are active, and only a fraction of the active are active in the Skyrim section. There are about 500 people at any given time on these boards, I'll be generous and say half complain. Thats 250 people. So on average 0.0043% of the people who bought the game, are complaining about it here. I don't think Beth has anything to worry about.

Even if every member of this board signed up purely to complain, thats still only, 4.6% of everyone who plays the game

Something that I've always found to be true in my personal life is that the more someone likes a game, the more they tend to passionately complain about its flaws. And every no game is perfect.

@Levanon:

True statement. I don't even bother to write a single word about a game I don't like ... unless it is from a company I am a big fan of, like Dungeon Siege 3. Don't dig Dungeon Siege 3, but really love Obsidian so I talked about that game some. Usually though, if I don't really enjoy a game, I'm not talking about it. I get fanbpoy reactions to criticisms here that make me smile, these guys wouldn't even want to know what I had to say about games I don't like. I personally think that about 90% of all games made are utter garbage.

The difference between criticism and complaint is not that obvious and to some extend they are literally the same. This is a public forum, not a tech journal or something.
Many people post here just like the way when they are talking to someone else.

When you are talking to your friend about some flaws of a game, would you say like "I think this mechanic needs to re-balancing. Here are some ways to do so, and which method I think would be the best for the benefit of the game."
or would you talk more like "WTF this mechanics is really bad I really hope it's not like this."?

Of course there are people who post here in a more formal way. But you can't just define those who's posting in a more causal way as trolling or something like that. It doesn't really matter if it's a complaint or criticism. Because for both of them, the only reason one will voice is when one is not completely satisfied. And this is a problem that as a business should consider.

2 of those 3 patches just cancelled each other out however by fixing what the 2nd patch broke. Which says something as well.

Still the same issues occur from the time prior to 1.2 exist not much as changed.

Skyrim is a decent game certianly isn't the best I have played even in the RPG genre alone. Feels quite rushed really. But anyways when I can I enjoy the game.

@Wyatt

your philosophy would work but the minority is the only thing that actually makes the world move either it be games to politics. Posting comments about bugs, unbalances, good/bad mechanics, will always outweigh the rest of the 90% of player base that says nothing at all because they usually do not go to forums let alone who made the game they are playing atm.

First, I do not agree with your quote and you may call me an idiot but I've never heard of this guy.

Second, players are the customers, they paid money to get the game. It's the developers' job to find a solution, not the players. To many businesses, customers giving feedback(don't matter if there's a solution or not) are a great treasure to them.

Try saying this sentence to your boss when he points out a problem while not giving you the solution.
Or say this to your customer when they came to you saying how the product is not perfect.

people love to complain, and some of them have legitimate problems (reporting bugs and stuff is very important, its good bethesda hears these posts), most have some strange desire to max out thier characters and whine that their character is...well maxed out.

The first week this game was out there were many threads not only praising this game, but claiming the game was one of the best games made. The game is praised all over the place. Ignore the people who can't get past putting a microscope to their personal issues.

The problem I was truly amazed in the first 10 to 20 mins of the game. But when I delved deeper into it, well you know the rest.

Considering only my gaming experience, I would rate Skyrim 9.5 for the first 10 to 20 mins. And around 8 for the hours following.

I love Skyrim, just like I loved Oblivion and I loved Morrowind. I have some gripes, but they don't diminish my enjoyment of the game unless I let them.

I honestly wonder, because whenever I go visit these forums, I rarely see something nice being said about this game. It's almost always something bad, like 'TES is dead' or 'Talk about a let down,' etc. I mean, criticising is one thing, I understand a true fan of the series will always critisize the game because they want it to be better, but saying the game is broken and flat out svcks accomplishes nothing. It sounds like alot of people used to play Elder Scrolls, but then they took an arrow in the knee and decided to spend their free time trolling on the forums instead. I played the S%#! out of Oblivion and I loved almost every second of it. I think this game is a massive step forward for the series. I'm not saying the game is perfect, but it is a great improvement an addition to the series. Do I that some things need to be re-balanced, edited? Of course I do, and, in time, I'm sure they will. But people complain way too much. And sure this game has it's fair share of glitches(most of which I don't mind), but that's to be expected. This game is huge, not as huge as Daggerfall per say, but this game is crammed with so much content and detail, I'm surprised how they managed to fit it on one disc. If you voted 'No,' you're a either a hypocrite or a troll, because if you don't enjoy Skyrim, you need to start playing another game and GTFO the forum. But, for those of you who do like this game, I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts and opinions about it.

Only a handful of people have said that Skyrim svcks or is completely broken etc O.o
Funny thing is those who say "don't hate Skyrim" are a lot more than the actual haters! And with threads like these you just contribute to the spam.
The rest complain constructively and you have no right to say anything about them.

I pretty sure that the way this poll is worded is screwing up the results. The question in the title and the poll question are two different things. When you ask "Am I the only one who likes this game" I clicked no because your not the only one, only after the fact did I see what the real question was. Who ever made this poll should lock it.
