Am I the only one who thinks ESO should be only 1st person?

Post » Tue Mar 11, 2014 4:32 pm

Skyrim is an Elder Scrolls game, Morrowind is an Elder Scrolls game.

ESO is an Elder Scrolls MMO.

Its not one of the single player games and needs to function on mechanics that work for the kind of game it is, not what the other games in a totally different genre of games function off.

Be happy they gave a workable 1st person view at all.

You can be snarky all you want about it, but facts are facts.

ESO is an MMO set in the Elder Scrolls universe, not an Elder Scrolls game proper.

This^

This is an MMO - If you are not playing in 3rd person, then you ARE NOT being efficient. period.

Elder Scrolls has had the third person option for over 10 years now. If you want to pvp in first person, you have to accept the visibility handicap. There is just no good reason to force someone to use first person.

I just want to see improvment made to 1st person view when the follow occurs...

Riding Horse

Swimming

Random Rolls

Other moments when forced camra change occurs.

For the most part, yes.

The good MMOs have been predominantly either 3rd person, or birds eye view.

I have never heard of a successful MMO that was predominantly, or limited only too 1st person.

You realize a MMO is a game right? Thus ESO is an elder scrolls game, want it or not

I don't think it should be first person only, but I do think there needs to be a first person only pvp campaign.

Never liked first person myself. Mainly due to the restricted view, and poorly constructed hands in front you.

Elder Scrolls is also played on Third person, You cant prevent those people just because you like it, you are not the only one plays TES.

Dont worry about advantage, There is going to be campaings where only first person is allowed. How do i know this? There is rulesets option when selecting campaing, althou not offically confirmed its oblivios what they are going to use that for

First person was added as an afterthought after a bunch of people wanting it.

It wasn't even originally planned.

And no, I don't think it should be only first person.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim weren't only first person. Didn't play Daggerfall or Arena so I can't speak for those two. I didn't have to play those in first person, so why would I want to have to play this in first person?

We've had a choice between third and first since Morrowind. Why change that now? I can understand the thought but many just don't like that POV.

3rd person seems to suit this genre better, having said that I sometimes use 1st person for a specific task if I want to watch what is going on, but the game seems to have been built around 3rd, so that's what I use.

Perhaps my phrasing was a little off then, I haven't slept and its almost 1pm here.

There are too many people who are expecting ESO to be essentially Skyrim with more people in the world and PvP in it.

It is not that.

ESO is not one of the "traditional" Elder Scrolls games, its a different system alltogether.

There are simply things that shouldn't transfer over, or don't transfer over well from a sandbox single player RPG to a semi-on rails MMO.

ESO isn't one of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls sandbox RPGs.

ESO is ZOS's Elder Scrolls MMO.

Different production company, different game genre, different mechanics are needed for the displacement and changed from one genre of game to another.

I play Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim in 3rd person except for archery and using magic. I can take first person in small doses but if I'm forced into in non stop I'd want to vomit on your shoes after about an hour. If ESO was first person only I couldn't play it. I tried Dead Island and I have to say I think they strapped the camera to a drunk Quazimoto and after an hour I was so sick the rest of the day I could barely function.

I don't think I would form any character bonding in fps view since I love seeing my character in armor and gear . Good character bonding are one of the reasons

I stay longer in MMORPG's .

It would be a nice option to have a 1st POV only campaign for the hard cores. I hate playing in first person, but it would be the best way to PvP, that is if everyone else around you was forced into that view.

Take War Thunder for example, has two modes where third person is available for beginners, but a first person view for the extra challenge. Would love to have the option here.

Don't see it happening though.

I agree, and since the last three TES games have had both I think ESO should have both.

I don't care about the PvP argument. That's not going to be an issue for me.

No, just no. I play first person exclusively but I also do not want to deny anyone the choice to play how they prefer. I was more than mildly annoyed by the idiotic and infantile responses I read to people requesting first person view as an option for Witcher 3. Basically it came down to either "Witcher has always been third person so why change it" or "first person view svcks, I can't see my perfectly formed ass".

The more options and choices the more people are happy. In fact lack of optional views is one of the reasons that I dropped GW2 after a short period of time.

Regarding PVP the only advantage I have seen regarding third person view is when healing and that is assuming that there aren't any ally health indicators on screen. I haven't played PVP yet so I don't know how that is set up. Combat wise I can smoke people even easier in first person view because there is far less guesstimating when aiming with ranged weapons like staves and bows. I also do much better in first person with melee weapons as well.

Quite frankly, I'd have skipped the game if it were first person only.

Ever since they introduced third person mode in the TES games, I've played in third person as I prefer to see my character.

Arena, Daggerfall and Battlespire were first person only, which was ok for their time.
