Am I The Only One worried About Multiplayer Modes?

Post » Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:55 am

The fact that all of the multiplayer is campaign based worries me. A symmetrical gametype instead of all this play campaign stuff over and over would be nice.

Stopwatch is symmetrical.

I for one applaud the fact that they are giving objectives purpose.

You're not the only one who feels this way my dude. Campaign is gonna be fun and I'm sure there are gonna be a bunch of ways to approach the objectives but after a while it might get repetitive. I guess it all depends on who you're playing with and how creative you are.

How is it any more repetitive than other games that have only 3 or 4 game modes and a handful of maps to play each on? At least this way each objective is different.

I definitely like objectives, but too me they're going too strong on them almost. I can't see there being any tournaments for this game. :/

Their past games were huge on competition, and the missions were all attack/defend. They make it symmetrical by playing each map twice with teams reversed, then comparing completion time. Called stopwatch mode.

You're right...it's going to be repetitive regardless. However, more symmetrical modes would lessen the amount of repitition. That's how I see it anyway.

What.. W:ET is 6-7 years old? It's still being played competitively with the same gamemode throughout those years.

I've never played that game before. How are the map sizes?

You do realize when I say competitively I'm thinking of tournament play. Not just random "ranked" games.

And that's a lot of what W;ET is anymore, most of the casual players have moved on.

And I never mentioned pub play anyway?

As for map size, the actual map size I have no idea. But they were big enough.
You can download the game and have a look at the basic maps if you'd like to. Game is like 250mb or so, and fairly old so your comp specs should not be a problem at all.

If you think of "pub play" as serious tournaments then there's a problem....

There's definitely nothing wrong with pub play, but major tournaments shouldn't be compared with it. :/

As for cups: http://clanbase.ggl.com/news_league.php?lid=11240

And thats Eurocup, invite only I believe and then you got Opencup that teams can sign up for.
I could not be arsed go through the hassle that is ESL.. feels impossible to navigate on that site.

The reward for it was being called the best in Europe, or at least some of the best, cant really claim that everyone in Europe played.

Its a free 7 year old game, I wouldn't expect massive money prizes.

I'm just expecting almost no tournaments for this game. I can't see it happening. Hopefully I will be surprised though.

The thing that boggles my mind, is how people will complain about how Brink doesn't have enough game modes, but at the same time, many of the ones complaining, play nothing but DM and TDM all day long. Ultimately, it isn't that the want Brink to offer more gamemodes, it's that they want Brink to to have the gamemode(s) that they enjoy playing - they seem to forget that lots of people enjoy playing the type of gameplay Brink will offer, over and over and over again.

How can you see no tournaments for an attack/defend, class-based, team objective game? It is like the holy grail of competition gamemode. Without having any prior experience with an SD-style objective game, your opinion is pretty much moot.
