Every person that I mention Brink to always gives me the same answer: "Brink svcks."
I imagine that many of the folks who've said or posted comments like that are still playing, and waiting for improvements with their fingers crossed. You'll notice how many who claim to have allegedly binned the game STILL SEEM TO BE HERE. It's an expression of abject disappointment.
In a way though, SD brought this on themselves, to be brutally honest. A miultiplayer game releasing with Brink's issues was ALWAYS going to receiving a slagging off.
Had we got a smooth (lag) and beautiful (graphics) game, which dropped us into a fair fight (map balance) between 2 teams of switched-on warriors (AI intelligence/balance) or let us play vs 15 other humans (lobbies) online, the only people chuntering would the TDM crowd, who I largely dismiss as buffoons anyway.
But even those, like me, who are loving the game, are beginning to tire of the issues discussed, limited modes and the woefully small number of maps (I think more modes would help breathe new life into the old, stale maps - they still need to fire some out, though and a bit sharpish). My personal instances of going 'Meh...'and turning Brink off because I'm getting bored, are on the rise. Only 1 of the 5 issues most grumbled about has been fixed, and the devs remain silent.
SD need to fix the game's known issues and fire out some heavily-loaded DLC if they want to have a community for Brink 2, if I'm honest. Whilst I swing between wildly really devoted fan to 'meh' depending on each day's experiences with the game, I can see the rats leaving the ship, and if they're paying even passing attention, so can Beth and SD.
They faced 2 firm timelines - the trade-in cut-off, which has passed, and the 'inital love wears off point', which is looming fast. Time to fix the issues and fire out the '10 new maps and 3 new game modes DLC'.
I'm off to play Brink now, in the hope that my team-mates don't make me rage quit in the next 30 mins. :whistling:
