Am I the only person that is still really enjoying Brink?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 3:01 am

Every person that I mention Brink to always gives me the same answer: "Brink svcks."

I am always slightly offended when I hear this. I mean, am I the only one who still absolutely loves this game? I created a clan (Unit 13) for Brink a year in advance on account that I predicted it would be one
of the most played games of all time, but as soon as it hit stores it was getting bad feedback. Now the clan has had to expand to more popular games like *GASP* Black Ops.

The only flaws I have found in Brink so far are:

1) No lobbies.
2) Enemy AI are far more superior compared to team AI (From what I am noticing, anyway.).
3) Not many levels to choose from and customization seems to be a bit small compared to how it seemed to be when I demo'd it at QuakeCon 2010 last summer.

Other than that, I find no serious issues in the game. I honestly think people just don't like not being able to run and gun people down so easily like they can in CoD.
For example, you can totally pre-fire around a corner in CoD and get an easy kill with an SMG, but in Brink its a whole different ballgame. You can still pre-fire the corner and get the kill, but the opposing player stands much more of a chance. Which is what the player on the receiving end of the gun wants, right?

I guess I am just really getting tired of the simple CoD players dogging on Brink because it isn't another run and gun shooter.

Btw, props to Bethesda and Splash Damage(?) for finally getting the game stats up. I can't wait for the clan support to go live.

Congratz sir, for being one of the chosen few who "get" Brink. I completely agree with the fact that Brink's primary detractors are the "CoDiots" who couldn't get into the game because it's not point, shoot, kill...or the people who complain about the technical issues the game has completely naive to the fact all the other FPS games on the market have issues as well to this day. But because Brink doesn't have Call Of Duty, Battlefield or Halo in it's title, it gets singled out. I personally could care less what the nay-sayers think, because at this point they're only talking for the sake of trying to look cool. We all know what Brink's short comings are, but we still play it because despite the issues, it's still a fun & entertaining game.

Hahahaha... Haha... ha...
Singling out far more successful shooter series' fans because they got things right and usually don't come out buggy messes. [Looking at you Black Ops, and Halo 2.]

You're giving Brink a bad name by trying to pick on people who like something different then you and have usually legitimate reasons to not like the game and say it svcks.

The beginning lag, lack of maps, and lack of Lobbies in a multiplayer only game is a very bad thing because there's nothing else for the game to fall back on. No campaign to play instead to wait out those issues while they're being fixed.

Though, true, it is fun and entertaining.

I actually sold my copy yesterday... i just decided to check this forum since i was on the skyrim forum tho.

You point out all the main flaws except you missed the texture problem on 360 and the terrible lag on 360, all of which is alot of problems for a game that essentially has 2 modes. Brink has great gameplay its just everything else about the game just seems unfinished and it doesnt help that the game is a bit short on content to other games out there.

I sold my copy bc none of my friends liked it, the texture problems game me headaches, and the AI was just too bad to play by myself. I hope the devs can fix it up and bring ppl back but i think its too late, hopefully theyll learn from it and keep the franchise alive and make a sequel.

I was one of the few where the lag and texture problem was fixed in the first two patches. Given they shouldn't have released such an unfinished game I wish everyone would have waited until they got everything fixed instead selling their copies right away. I fell like after these recent patches the game is a lot more solid, and at level 20 the AI stops acting like idiots and playing with bots online is actually pretty fun.

The patches did help but it wasnt enough, i made sure before selling that it still had the texture problems and like i said my friends didnt like it so that pretty much left me by myself. Your right the AI is actually alot better at lvl 20 but then they really show how stupid they are when you start over at lvl 1, that was really frustrating to me since i like to stick with one class and not change during the mission (its a habit from playin bfbc2 with my friends so much).

I'm still up in the air about brink. There's a good game inside somewhere, but its come to the point that I have to choose if I really want to fight through the negatives or cut my losses and get a game I know I'll like. The thing that's really killing it for me right now is the other people online. Which is disappointing, and i cant blame SD for it. They have no control over how people play but I'm sad this game is being ruined by the players on top of the technical issues this game has [at least for us 360 players]. I had really hoped for this game to be good but i was let down. I've learned my lesson finally though. After suffering through the New Vegas release then this.I know they didn't make it but the Bethesda image is ruined as far as I'm concerned, I will never pre-order a game from Bethesda again. Splash Damage I might seeing as how they are giving us a free DLC, which goes along way in my book on how to keep this game going.
crossing my fingers that skyrim will be good.

Still play everyday. Only other game I've played since getting it was a few hours of Crackdown 2 & Portal 2 oh and a blast on TF2 just to compare it to Brink.

After playing TF2 for a bit I went straight back to brink as IMO it is a better game. Now if I had the PC version of both I might be saying a different thing as the 360 has none of the add ons for TF2 and PC Brink seems to be the one with the biggest issues.

So I will keep playing with only the duke as a planned interruption to my brink addiction.

You kidding? I love this game. It has a nice (or rather, not nice) collection of flaws, but that hardly outweighs the fantastically baked in awesomeness it possesses. My biggest gripe actually has to do with the community (not this one, the general gaming community) rather than the title itself. Personally I feel it was passed over far too quickly, though with such a rocky launch and a fresh ip I guess it was to be expected. Close second would have to be those blasted bots haha

Since the day before Brink was released, and counting the 4 days I had migraines, I've had 3 days where I didn't play Brink.

+1 for the enjoying Brink group.

Just like Wolf:ET and ET: Quake Wars not everyone gets or enjoys this type of game. I remember introducing some work mates & friends to Wolf:ET and some loved it and others hated it (especially when they didn't know the map or the objectives on the map). All of them enjoyed FPSs of varying natures.
And both previous ET games have had their success. I expect Brink will have the same core group of fans and be one of those "love it" or "hate it" games to the general populace. Hopefully there'll be enough people enjoying it to keep it going for some time and eventually the people that hate it will stop raging and the only negativity left in the forums will be constructive criticism.
(Man, am I tired of reading the raging and whining threads. I don't mind if you don't like the game but please be constructive in why you don't like it. So much QQ!)

Another that enjoys the game very much.

Does it/did it have bugs and some issues? Yes. Has SD been working on them quicker then most companies? Yeah seems to me they are.

I havent enjoyed a FPS this much since Tribes 1 and 2 (yes I liked them both) and thus is the first time since Tribes I have joined a clan.

Ive been to busy playing to post, I see now that there is a lot of hate going around, don't worry bout it, there are those of us that still love it. I just logged my first 24 hours of gaming and I look forward to many more months, and if SD plays their cards right, years of Brink. I am no where near bored with it.

I really enjoy Brink as well. I also agree with your list of the game's flaws. SD is working hard on balancing and tweaking. This is the game I have been waiting for. While it is unfortunate that there are a lot of other people who dislike Brink, or did not feel it lived up to their expectations, Brink is fun for me. And that is key. Also, I am in it for the long haul: this game will get better as time goes along, so I see no reason to abandon it any time soon.

I still really enjoy the game. It actually has really been the only game that I have played since the PSN has gone up. However, it helps a lot that I did not have many of the lag problems that others had basically from the beginning and I really don't care about the texture problem. That and this is the exact type of game that I enjoy to play as opposed to COD, which I have never been a fan of. But to each their own.

I am really excited for the new DLC that will be coming out, as well and the future DLC that SD will release.

OMG TRIBES!! Just nostalgia'd there.

Anyway, Brink is still awesome sorry naysayers, I kind of remember B-Ops being sort of a flop on its debut.

I would have liked more content, not going to lie, but I still really enjoy what I've been given. So I'll keep playin.

+1 for BRINK. I am playing it right now, no school and no work today :hubbahubba: , and the game is a lot of fun but the tech issues turned people away. Some people will never understand that BRINK isnt about racking up kills but teamwork and playing their role. SD needs to continue to iron out the bugs and release some of that DLC then it will be all good.
