The only problem for me playing an Argonian

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 10:33 am

I like Argonians. I want to make an Argonian Thief, but I think it'll be kind of weird. The beast races, including Argonians, encounter quite a bit of racism and are slaves in some places. It just doesn't seem right for me, an Argonian Thief, to be the Champion of Cyrodill and own a giant Castle (i.e. Battlethorn). What do you guys think?

I see no problem at all. there is plenty of room to role-play Argonian characters, u just have to give urself some thought... Something like a common 'person' who was forced to learn the harsh ways (Thief) of being a minority in an Empire, where ppl only start noticing u once they are in dire need...

I have little advice on this particular race, as I never see myself playing argoninans, khajiits or orcs. Very often dark elves neither.

Without an alternative start mod, all Champions of Cyrodiil start as criminals. If someone saves you from death and destruction it would be churlish not to suitably reward them and overlook their questionable origins. In any case you don't have to complete the main quest ;)

I think you could eliminate the word Argonian and ask the same question about any thief owning Battlehorn Castle and becoming the Champion of Cyrodiil.

Sure, you can do mental gymnastics to even justify the Divine Crusader becoming Listener if that is what you want to do badly enough. :lmao:

Hmm, let's see. Yeh, that's it. His mother didn't love him as much as the other hatchlings and his dog ate his homework and he was forced to eat brocoli with his bugs when he was little and the Imperial Legion was mean to him and so. . . therefore he turned into a . . . . Lol.

It's weird yes, but Oblivion is not the type of rpg where you are constrained in many ways, you can in most cases have your cake and eat it in the big O.
After you play the game a bit ( I appoligise if you're a long term player ), is that you find that you don't really want to do everything anymore and just pick the bits that suit what you do want to do.

So it's really up to you if you can create a story for why and are happy for doing all the above on your post, just do it.
If not, then think about the story you came up with and find the path that best suits, and just do that part.

Regarding becoming the Champion of Cyrodiil, you could always chalk it up to self-preservation. You were keeping yourself from ending up in a Daedra-infested hole for all eternity. The fact that you rescued everyone else is immaterial. As for those racists you encounter... you could always leave them without any personal belongings. I wouldn't mind playing an Argonian and coming up with a plan to leave a certain countess behind in a plane of Oblivion- preferably in lava but still "essential."

Ah you are not the only one. I too have problems seeing that. I can't imagine a cat, lizard, or a shrek look-a-like being the champion of cyrodil and saving the world. No offense to the Khajiit, Argonian, or Orc lovers out there :P

Oh my. I can see any of those races as Champion of Cyrodiil so much more readily than my skinny little wood elf. Can you imagine http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Cho%20Bk%201/ScreenShot626.jpg as the Champion of Cyrodiil!?!

Heh, might as well give the title to the Adoring Fan.

I myself could never play a Argonian till I made one blue :P.
I can imagine any race being the CoC, heck my cousin has a Xavili as the CoC!

I enjoy beast races because of how unique you can make them look. For example I have a Khajiit albino Skooma pirate and a purple/blue Argonian witchdoctor...

Glad that's your only problem, OP. I could never play an Argonian. I kept tripping over the tail...

The tail, how could I forget that... I played through the game with an Argonian once, and it was so weird walking around the the Imperial Dragon Armor with that huge tail hanging out...

There are places in Tamriel which heavily discriminate against Argonians, buy Cyrodill is officially cosmopolitan. Other than Black Marsh itself, it's probably the place in the world where an Argonian can most likely succeed and do well for himself.

I actually love Argonians... I got used to the weirdness after a while... its not much more abnormal than http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Gogron_gro-Bolmog, if you think about it. My only problem is that after playing one, I tend to drown when I switch characters.

I personally can't play either beast races.. It just takes out of the immersion for me.

For the same reason, I can never play with a female character..

Well I have played many Argonian characters, and yeah, some NPCs can be a little racist. But when that happens I just give them an arrow between the eyes, problem solved

I don't play female characters either. I just can't understand these guys that have mods that let them play as 4 foot tall skimpy asian girls with boobs that are bigger than their heads and that wear metal bikinis. Seriously man? It makes me feel very weak. Because in real life, a 4 foot tall Asian girl wouldn't be able to lift a sword, let alone save the world from the forces of Oblivion. If I played a female I'd have to go with Khajiit, there seems to be reduced sixual dimorphism. Females make much more sense being thief/marksmans/mages. It just doesn't make much sense at all to have them clad in plate mail wielding great big hammers.

I find it extra- cool to see a 4 foot tall cup E girly with anime hair style *in tight thong* wielding a Daedric War Hammer that would make Tor look like a weakling

My new character (if I ever get past testing and actually start playing) is a female Khajiit. Since I play exclusively FP, the only time I'm reminded of the fact is in inventory or when I see a clawed hand wrapped around a drawn weapon or some NPC makes a comment. I spend a lot of time in character creation and then, more or less, forget what I am and just play.

I like to play as argonians, but it's the tail that bugs me. That and it's basically a lizard hed on a scale-textured Imperial body. Why couldn't they have done it like Morrowind and make them look more lizardlike? How do you get used to the tail?

At least it's not as bad as the cat race.

I would agree with this, since I'm a traditionalist player. Lizard-peoples typically dwell in swamp-camps or uncivilized locations, in every other RPG I've ever played except Oblivion. Same goes with orcs. I can't really making a Cyrodiilic hero out of a lizard-person especially. If I ever make a lizardman (and I'm thinking I might one day) he'll live pretty much in the rivers, murder alot of elves & humans, and pretty much be this slick badass-character.

I have played a nord as a custom nightblade class quite a bit and he gets quite a few snide remarks as well, since he's in the Thieves Guild (especially from the guards). Although there never really seem to be racial remarks made toward my nord, being the head of the Thieves Guild, he gets all kinds of unsavory remarks none-the-less.

QFT man.

I still can't play female khajiits. :P

But I mean, I simply can't play with hot female characters. It's too distracting. In more ways than one. :touched:

somone posted in another thread, saying he found absurd the idea of having the 'Champíon of Cyrodil' as a skinny 4 foot tal girly, with anime hair, pink dress and wielding a Daedric War Hammer. Facing a dozen Xivilai, Daedroth and Liches.

I just couldn't stop imagining this
