The Orc Thread

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:58 am

Took me a while to figure it out, but I love Orcs. I like being big and strong and solving problems simply, knowing a good sharp ax is just as good as any magick.

Was wanting to see who else plays as Orcs and wants to talk about Orc stuff.

I've only played two orcs, and they were awesome. One was a shaman, alchemy illusion and destruction mixed with a little mace for flavor, and one was a strait up warrior, once i got orcish armor i stuck with it, its probably the coolest armor for a warrior class imo

Awesome. Hmm we need a topic to get things rolling.

What is your favorite in game weapon? Im torn between Battle Axes and War Hammers. Usually carry one of each.

Yes I started off doing the Shaman thing, but now Im going to do a more traditional Orc. Doesnt need a whole lot more than some heavy Armor and a War axe, but he likes to hunt with leathers and a bow. Alchemy for survivial in case of diseases or wounds while exploring.

The last Orc I played was Blossom, whom I built because female Orcs get the lowest starting stat of any in the game - i.e. 25 for Personality. I ended up maxing her out in that, as well as Mercantile and Speechcraft. She could sweet-talk her way out of most conflicts, but if need be, she'd use her negotiating axe (which was a custom mesh based on the Silver War Axe). The axe had fairly low base damage, but did its job with enchantments including a bit of Soul Trap to keep it topped up via Azura's.

To further challenge myself, I didn't allow her to wear armor, or carry a shield. She still ended up as CoC, Arch-mage and a few others.

With earlier male Orcs I've used two-handers. Either the Claymore or the Battleaxe was preferred, but they'd use a hammer if they had one.

silver mace is my favorite weapon to have my orcish warrior carry around, for axes tied between steel and elvish. Don't think blades go with orcs, so i don't use them

One would have to go a long way to find a truer and more noble friend that dear Sir Mazoga. :hugs:

You should try playing a Mazken. They start with a Personality of 10! When I played one (Aerin), I eventually built it up to like 70 or so.

And they are called Dark Seducers... wow.

You would think with them being "seductive" and all, they would have a pretty decent personality.

Or maybe it's all down to endurance for them.

i just started an orc this evening actually - a pilgrim, with heavy armour instead of light, and combat spec instead of stealth,
i've just been hanging around the imperial city so far, trading and picking up leads and looking into lore n'all,

but one thing that worries me is the amount of knockback i suffered when i used berserk,
i'm going for a slow roleplay approach with the char, not doing more than one big fight or dungeon in a day cycle, so berserk and the ritual birthsign power mara's gift were going to be my heavy hitter / oh [censored] abilities, and i'm not using any spells except for scrolls and the ritual's turn undead,

do you other orc types use berserk much? do you have trouble with the knockback thing?
i really hadn't planned on putting any points into agility,

edit: just noticed that it's 100 points of agility drain so there's not much can be done anyway. balls
i frickin hate knockback

I use Bezerker as a super strong Pack Mule. After I clear a dungeon Ill turn it on and grab up a bunch of stuff then quick travel and sell it. Its OK in 1vs1 but in groups its suicide, though you may be able to counter it with alchemy using fortify agility.

I just made an orc! I wanted to try a character who goes through each quest, taking no items except:
1. Things that are placed in their inventory by NPCs.
2. Thing they need to complete quests
3. Lockpicks, repair hammers, torches, and gold

And I thought, hey, I'll try this with an orc since I've never really played with one.

Her name is Angoth gra-Dul, born under the sign of the Warrior. She's an Adventurer (I was too lazy to come up with an alternate class name). Combat, Endurance, Strength, Blade, Blunt, Marksman, Light Armor, Heavy Armor, Mercantile, Block. (Normally, I don't like to have both blunt and blade, light and heavy armors as majors, but I wanted her to be prepared to use whatever items were thrown at her. Also, I use magic like all the time and wanted to try a character who uses minimal magic.)

Even though she was only created as a means of trying out some weird little challenge type thing, I'm growing attached to her.

An orc is excellent for self-reliant playing styles.

For magic she should just use alchemy. To me its more of a ranger skill than a mage skill.

I had an Orc called Agronak gro-Bog. He lasted about 540 hours before a tragic accident with another save-game. Most awesome character I ever had, but I haven't played an Orc in ages.
Edit: I think I might play an Orc again soon... hmm....

Honestly, one of my top 3 favorite characters was probably in Morrowind. Stone the Orc Mercenary (that literally was his custom class name).
Name was probably pretty basic, but it sure applied. I can't recall anyone who could knock him down (eventually). He was either in Orc or Ebony armor, I can't recall, and wield an axe and shield. Didn't use ranged weapons (atleast I don't recall him using a bow), and didn't use any spells, period.

Tried to re-make him for Oblivion (descendant? maybe?), but...err, the graphics made Orcs look...cartoony. I can't help it! Didn't they look that way to anyone else?
Don't get me wrong, I still like'ed them, I'd just rather not decide to play one in Skyrim until I can see what they look like. *hopes for screenshots*
A Nord Dark Brotherhood tank took his place in Oblivion (he's like number 4 or 5 in my favorites list). Only he used a giant hammer...

I have tried a Mazken. I remember having an issue with one NPC that had enough aggression to attack her and had to postpone a quest until I could get her Personality up a bit.

lord is a very useful sign, i had it on my khajit monk, who was my number one best game character ever, if you take it it's the only heal you'll need for the entire game,

i went with ritual this time because i like the discipline of relying on once a day spells, plus he'll be hanging around Ayleid ruins a fair bit, making the blessed word quite handy.

Men or women,

Orcs don't care!

Give 'em twins,

they'll take the pair!

Cute barmaids or tavern boys!

All can be a true Orc's toys!

Be they short or be they tall,

a true Orc'll take 'em all!

I don't play orcs, but I would like to thank them, because those gauntlets they make are the best piece of armour in all Cyrodiil.
