... so, yeah, it's the 1.7 patch. I'm on a PC, so I suspect that the issue that pops up when I install the patch is irrelevant - only applicable to xbox live, no?
I figure it's been 2 years since I bought the god damned game, I might as well see if their latest attempt to "fix" it has worked. MOre realistically, I' already have the feeling that ti's a colossal waste of time....

yeah, I'm just a little bitter with bethesda.

FOMM -> Tools -> Install tweaker -> Use Fake XLive.dll

...then you don't have to mess with GFOWL.

uhhh..... I don't get it. What is FOMM, and what is GFOWL?

btw, I did have a fresh download of the 1.7 patch - downloaded it right from this site less than an hour ago.
I also reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows since yesterday, hoping it would help with the ordinal issue...

http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640 is an indispensable load order tool with a bunch of awesome features you'll want/need. The ordinal issue is over Games For Windows Live's (GFOWL) Xlive.dll. I'd uninstall Games for Windows Live (unless you plan on buying DLC's through GFWL), then use FOMM as described above and all should work in a flash.

Oh, god - it's installing and I think I just figured out what it is - it's that utter CRAP like steam and now battlenet, right? as in, I have to log on on the internet to egt permission to play a game locally on my hard drive, a game which I OWN and don't need permission for....
Or am I jumping to conclusions here?

Thats the general system concept, though GFWL is not needed for Fallout to play. And it is VASTLY less intrusive then Steam. A simple login and you never have to see it again. But with Fallout, you can just install FOSE and GFWL wont even start. You don't need to login to play, only if you want to track achievements.
