[RELz] The Oubliette

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:16 am

Seems like I'm a day late and a dollar short these days...

I just dl'd v1.2. I did my usual procedure of checking / cleaning the esp with TES4Edit.
There is an error reported with a condition of one of the AI packages. I can fix it myself, IF I know what item is being checked.

Here is what TES4Edit reported:

Parameter #1 -> Found a NULL reference, expected: ALCH,AMMO,APPA,ARMO,BOOK,CLOT,INGR,KEYM,LIGH,MISC,SGST,SLGM,WEAP
Above errors were found in :CTDA - Condition
Above errors were found in :Conditions
Above errors were found in :AATESAMannimagnusEntryDeathChoiceConvo [PACK:010067E7]
Above errors were found in :GRUP Top "PACK"
Above errors were found in :[01] TheOubliette.esp

Thanks! I look forward to playing this mod.

Yep, this is just garbage I meant to clean out, and did at one point, but forgot to do it again between juggling copies of the .esp quickly. It's an AI pack that is still on the NPC (which is why the message in TES4Edit) but it doesn't do anything and isn't for anything. That section of the quest was removed and the pack was to be removed. I just missed it second time through. It doesn't hurt anything and doesn't cause any issues so for those who are not so mod savvy, this little error is not much to write home about.

If there is a future update somewhere down the road if something major crops up, I'll clean this little bit out too. At this point though, it's not worth re-uploading and asking players to download again just for that, but thanks for the heads up so I can note it!

I was exploring the wilds, and due east of the door to the Pit, I jumped into a yeallowish colored sea, and I saw the rocks of the coast had a glitch in them. I then continued swimming NE, and I found loads more of coastal rocks with similar glitches around the majority of the island.

Hmm...well the wilds is an interior cell, it was a bit of fluff added to a short entry to give a neat path to the next door. It wasn't meant to be explored. Not sure how you could have found anything with further swimming since the rocks were hand placed in an empty cell; and the rocks are merely common vanilla rocks, nothing in them to glitch. Beats me.

[EDIT] After looking in CS, I think you are just breaking the illusion for yourself. The rock perimeter was not designed to be breached and peaked at from the other side where there are open faces in some rocks and architecture pieces; it was literally built in the last hour before release. Just walk across to the door on the other side and sally forth. ^_^

Sooooo, lemme get this straight cause I'm easily confused. :D You jumped OUTSIDE of the obvious arena area, bypassing the rather OBVIOUS door on the opposite side, dropped into the endless ocean then took a long leisurley swim after you, and this bears repeating, jumped OUT of the arena area and you're complaining that things weren't perfect out there where it's not meant to be seen or part of the actual dungeon itself? When will people learn to follow the obvious path.

That would be like disabling the borders in game, running far far outside of the map and then complaining about the crappy terrain.

Gawd I love people. :D

Oh... uh.... maybe about the time games stop torturing people who follow the obvious path with evil traps and pitfalls and stuff. It's become an ingrained habit of mine to avoid the obvious path when possible. Especially since all the cool goodies are usually hiding in non-obvious places :)

For something like this it's probably not such a good idea since everything relies on sticking to the more or less linear path through.

BTW, same sort of thing can and does happen if you insist on jumping your way through the painted world quest in vanilla. You'll quickly discover there's nothing out there to see, and because Bethesda is more diligent with invisible walls, you can get yourself stuck out there. So folks should be glad jumping over the rock walls in the outdoor segment here won't get you stuck :)

No, the wilds aren't supposed to be an island, it's supposed to be a pocket of swamp you cross through, I made a high perimeter of rocks to simulate a borderland, most I would do to fix the issue here is add collision to keep wandering players in the target area, but I'm not updating this mod again for quite some time unless something major is broken. I need to focus on RST now, sorry. You'll have to just stick to the path intended for reality's sake.

Geeze, I can't seem to catch a break with this mod. I'm getting stuck ALL the time! I admit I've had to cheat a couple of times... using tcl to walk through doors that I could never find a key for and so forth. Now I can't even finish the darn thing!

I'm at the base of the Oubliette and I keep getting a message pop up that says "You are unable to open the door no matter how hard you try" or something like that. Thing is... I'm not AT any door!

Spoiler
I'm running around trying to FIND a door (since the message implies there is one) while continuing to fight this crazy warden ghost that keeps bashing on me. (Sorry but I don't find enemies that keep waking up to be scary... it's utterly annoying, but that's beside the point.)

This is the first time I've had to ask for help...

I am in the Hircine's Arena
Spoiler
I have cleared the first level jumped to the second. I have cleared it. I found a total of six keys. I can not find an exit door. The only way out that I have found is pit at the far side. (Instant Death...) I even went to the trouble to carrying all the boulders from the center of the arena and dropping them in the hole... all to no avail... I feel like I am missing something stupid.... I have played from a save outside the door from the Oubliette 4 times. I do not want to give up.... 10 hours of game play on this one section.. Thanks in Advance of any help...

Thanks

To escape Hircine's Arena
Spoiler
that pit is your road. You need to jump down, try to push your character toward the side of the pit that's toward the hircine statue and you should be able to squeak passed most of the spikes at the bottom. You can't make the jump unscathed however, you will take injury, it's just not a killing fall. If your character's defenses are too low you may need to use a console command (tcl) to get down without hitting the spikes at all.

Just before entering Namiras Realm you are at the Obliette, just left the room with a girl and paintings, bed, books etc. When in the Obliette you read the guards note and take the key. There are two hanging cages and if it were not for the way being blocked by a rail at the second hanging cage you would have reach the next door.

My question - the rail, is it a misstake? I can find no other way to reach the next door.

Cheers!

No, the rail is not a mistake. You need to
Spoiler
shoot an arrow from the second cage over the rail and strike the welkynd switch, that will open the gate.

Well there you are :P I tried something along those lines but from the wrong place ofcourse. I got frustrated after dying allot; it's much more complicated trying to jump playing on a 92" screen - I wonder why.

Cheers!

I'm downloading from TES Alliance. On the page http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=190, but the file says 1.1.0 (TheOubliettev1.1.0.zip). Is the file wrongly named or do I need to download some updates?

EDIT: OK, it seems to be wrongly named as the content is labeled 1.2.

great sweet dungeon, been a long time since I enjoyed something as tricky :D Thanks.

Spoiler
Am in Tomb Of Unrest. With hole in floor in front of me, chest beyond hole.
When I try jumping invisible hand pushes me back.
If I give up and go back to oubliette, am stuck without way from door 6 to door 7.

How to jump over gap? (I guess there is key in the chest beyond).
If jumping is wrong, how do I find door 7?

Thanks! :D
P.S. TESN in maintenance time off, can't wait to vote!

Hi Blade

Spoiler
There are a few keys that need collecting before the invisible hand will let you pass. Keep moving down the corridor and testing other doors for a way through.

Every time I read the thread name, it reminds me of one of the first RPG games I played when I got my first PC. You guessed it: Oubliette.

I doubt anyone in the community has played it . . well . . maybe one or two.
It was a fantastic text based game and just reading its name brings good memories.
Thanks for that.

Done... took me 5 days (lately the main quest takes up to 3 days...).
I like the bonuses - hoods, helmets... cool!
Several times drove me crazy because couldn't figure it out but at the end it is done...
Where is Oubliette 2? :D

Really hearty big fat THANK YOU, Darkrder!

Spoiler
Will never forget how the door to the castle LOOKED at me!
