The pacifist's way

You're in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where people kill you for a pencil. How can you not kill a single person?

The fact that it's VEGAS kind of makes killing and murder, especially in a post-apocalyptic hell more of a necessity.

I'll probably end up trying both 'extreme' ways of playing.

You understand that the setting is why it's interesting to be a pacifist, right? The odds are completely stacked against you. That's why you wanna do it.

I would only try this if it works like in metal gear solid 4, where there were some weapons that just knocked them out. That was the only game I never killed someone... You got a great reward too!

When you think about it, a pacifist character in the Fallout environment and universe that still gets things done, shakes settlements to their core, ends the reigns of tyrants, stops slavers, etc. should be a hell of a lot more scary for any NPC with sense than a murdering psychopath. You know how the person that murders and kills achieves his objectives - but the pacifist is a black box in regards to how they manage to fundamentally change the world.

Imagine the raw nervousness of a slaver leader who encounters your pacifist and knows of them by reputation. Now, he would be inclined to dismiss you or think you weak, since he knows you never kill, even when threatened - but somehow you always get what you want. Somehow you overcame an infamous rampaging cannibal raider and his gang, and you never harmed any of them, and this slaver leader knows it. He stares across the room at you, seconds ticking by as he tries to imagine what horrible power you have, what frightening ability you will bring to bear on him that has nothing to do with weapons. And he will be scared . . . .

Haha. Or you could get screwed twice - like when you make a deal with Metzer the slaver to get Vic released and sleep with the guy - and then he still doesn't release Vic and charges you an astronomical price to buy Vic's freedom. Though to be fair, letting yourself get bent over a bed by someone who refers to you as "[censored]" and "[censored]" made the price slightly less astronomical.

I kill people who don't kill people just to make sure that people kill people.

I think on my first playthrough, I'll play the game as if it was me who was the Courier, and I think I will make my character slightly hesitant to kill in the beginning as before he was shot, he was just a Courier who didn't see much violence, but eventually he'll realize that to make progress, he'll have to kill some people (but not unnecessarily, and not to innocent people). But after a few playthroughs, I plan on doing a completely pacifist playthrough, without harming a single man or creature.

you can use non lethal ammo and weapons. it knocks them out instead of killing them
it means dont kill anything unless it is absolutely needed to complete the game

Some non lethal weapons will supposedly cause them to flee the area, I imagine that might be useful in missions like the one in FO3 where you're tasked with getting all of the supermutants out of project purity. Back then, there wasn't any way to accomplish that without leaving their guts splattered all over the place.

While I was initially against it, a non lethal weapons playthrough could be interesting after I've tried everything else.

Ehhhh, I'm not a pacifist per se. But I kill people who intend to stand in my way, or are scum of the earth. Raiders, Slavers, and Caesers Legion are a part of that scum of the earth category. I like resolving quests with words. Any [censored] with a gun can solve a question, it takes a useful person with wit and intelligence to learn how to talk out a problem without the need to act mindless and primal and resort to violence.

I loved the Moisin sniper rifle that shoots tranq rounds......my favorite weapon in both MSG 3 and 4.

Or due to your non killing nature he could offer you a job at capturing slaves, because slavers would rather have their whole stock of slaves survive the trip back to their slaver compound ready to be marketed off.

Haha  . Well, I'd like to see this back myself. I'm not Stareagorn (DM of the Rings nickname for the Aragorn in his campaign, who always asks if any town they're visiting has a brothel and attempts "score" with Ewoyn with a fairly amusing result), but I'd like to see it in for the realism of it. After all, wouldn't be surpising to see six used as a possible payment/bargining chip in the wasteland (though if any ghoul character offers me six instead of money for a job, I shall have to run out of the house - in-game, of course - screaming without taking the payment). And of course, the option for our character, be it a male or female one, to use seduction to archieve his/her goal, that'd be welcome too. Or even the possiiblity for soem good honest romancing.. :) .

On-topic, while I won't be very pacifistic, it would be nice if there was the option for that too, weapon-wise. Tranquilizer gun, blunt weapons, gas bombs (akin to those in Thief 3) and so forth. Could be especially useful if you've accidentally pissed off a faction or two and don't want to make their opinion of you worse. Or if you've accepted a mission that, say, requires you to steal something from a faction or do something else in their off-limits areas (which makes'em hostile towards yout here). That way, even if you do that, you can at least keep any ire you draw from them to a minimum by not killing. And, of course, it could be useful for capturing slaves (if the option will exist here) or capture bounties or specific people a faction may want for questioning and so forth..

I won't need a gun, I'll deploy the most horrible thing to ever exist on the Gamebryo against my enemy. The Adoring Fan.

I'll adopt my own view with violence I have in real life

Must be avoided except when absolutelty neccessary. And it's only absolutely neccessary when it is protecting your own or other people's lives.

So I'll be mostly pacifistic and the idea of non-lethal ammo sounds really interesting. But if a raider comes to kill me and I'm left with no choice then I'll kill him.

I'll be more evil in subsequent playthroughs
