The Pail Rider

ROFL !!! And a cliffhanger too! More, More!
Funniest chapter EVER!!! I spotted a typo but can't see it anymore 'cause I'm wiping the tears from my eyes
The whole thing is full of brilliant, hilarious remarks. A bright spot in a further rather dreary day, Thank you!
Yeah, I've been waiting to get up to this chapter from the beginning. Fun chapters have to end somewhere too, so here it is. :)

Wham! The whip rattles the thin helmet I'm wearing. I reel in kind of an exaggerated way.

The distinct laugh of old grandma Truly rolls through the hall. She's here? She says,

"Oh, she's very feisty!"

Raising my shield in the direction the first hit came from, the gal whaps it twice before she knocks it out of the way.

She grabs the chinstrap of my helmet and headbutts me with hers! Jeez, I'm seeing stars. If I could see stars I mean.

Enough of that! I get up and throw the shield at her. Where those boots are clicking.

She yelps while blocking it, and I home in right on that spot. I can feel where she is from the wind shift, and?

Yes! A perfect slap on her ass as she dodged! I felt a corset on her as well.

"Yeah! Smack it again!"

That was Truly. Oh my?

I try to plan how to make a manly grunt when she hits me with something next. Probably a 'Uhhh!' would be best, but there's also an 'Arrg!' like I'm a seaman.

Wham! Alright, I wasn't just standing there. I reached out to see if I could grab at her again, and I tried to defend myself with the paddle. She hit me in the back with a chair!

While I'm working to get up, she hits me again. Time for my manly scream!

"Huurr!"

Oh that's wrong. Not what I was going for.

"Aww, the little man can talk big, but he can't dish it out."

With a click click she walks by me on my hands and knees, and breaks off my thin pauldrons. Now's my chance. I grab her leg and roll away, and she falls right on top of me. She's crossways on my lap while we're both laid out, so I sit up quick and grab her while she tries to get up. She reaches out and knocks my helmet off. Fine enough, I'm trying to surprise her anyway.

I get one arm around her back and the other over her legs to keep her from kicking, and I kiss her violently. You could say passionately, but with all the clanking of the metal it sounded like a kitchen pan band.

And she was into it. Aggressive as hell. I reached to pull back her mask, but she slapped my hands away and she rolled toward my feet. I was trying to guess all that she was wearing so I could get it off quicker as things progressed. Leather high heeled boots that came up over the knees, a metal bra, a corset that runs up to the bra, and bracers. Maybe I should leave the mask alone if it's going to kill the mood.

I struggle back to get up, and my combat skirt comes off. Aww, she undid it while she was warming me up! Sneaky lady.

She and all the other ladies gave a shout of "Ohhhhhhh!" when I became exposed.

The black haired beauty said, "Look ladies, he's wearing a sheath on his weapon! How is he going to attack anything by not getting it out?"

Hey now. I'm not having a kid with some traveling showgirl. Life if rough enough keeping me going. She walks up close to me and whispers into my ear,

"It's ok, I'm on the stuff."

The stuff? I guess a pro would know how to avoid dropping kids everywhere. Alrighty.

She yells, "Ladies!" and they yell back "YEAH!", and with that, she grabs my lower leather armor and yanked it off. The crowd goes wild, the women are cheering loudly, and I'm trying not to let the pain show. Not really pain, but it was damn uncomfortable.

Not really knowing what to do next, I take a low stance with the paddle ready. I hear her move on my left, so I lunge that way with my hand extended. The leather straps on her midsection were perfect for grabbing, so I took hold and spun her in toward me. With that, I picked her up and ran us toward the bed.

I sat down quickly on the edge after tumbling into it with her, and with some effort, slung her across my lap.

"Spank her! She's been bad!"

I don't need the advice, grandma. That was my plan.

I raise the paddle and yell out," Count 'em!"

The bar is with me, we say "One! Two! Three! Four!"

She playfully squeaks when I hit her with it, and I can feel her kicking her feet back with the fun.

Four is enough though, so I do the fifth with my hand. That signaled her or something, and she grabbed at my chest straps and tackled me back onto the bed. With an extra roll I was on top with nothing going on yet. I lifted her while trying to get in position and made a couple feinting thrusts that kept her off guard. Or would have rather, I just heard a thump thump when that happened.

Oh no, that was the sound of her head hitting the headboard. With such a shout of anger she pulled herself up my front side and started wailing that whip across my back. I unsteadily stood with her wrapped around me, punishing me dearly for my mistake.

"Lowell, remember when we used to do that?"

Lowell laughs "He he he!"

No! No! Not when I'm trying to do this thing! I can't have some grandma putting those thoughts in my head!

I'm stumbling around still holding her legs while she's hitting me in the head now, and we're both still pushing against each other in the aggressive fashion. It's hard to hold her up awkwardly like this, so when I'm unsteady, someone from the crowd rights us. She's actually whipping my ass now. The crowd couldn't be louder.

Now we're really moving. Is it wrong to shout your own name during six? I don't know her name and I want to say something.

Truly shouts above everyone, "Get up there girl! Ride that meat!"

She can't bother me now, I'm too busy.

I can't think of words for how amazing this is. The feelings and thoughts running through my mind are too much. This is by far the best experience I've ever had.

And we're moving together. We're stong.

There's something wrong in how right this is. Years of experience haven't come close to matching how good this act is. The stuff we're doing to each other?

In the moment of my triumph, I hear two women screaming loudest. I can't believe how loud the scream in my left ear is. The woman wrapped around me screams with joy in my right ear, and a voice of satisfaction yells in my left. It's somehow ethereal, like I'm taking on two women at once.

In brilliant flashes, I see light.

I see light. I see light? I see light. I see light?

I think it up by being a weirdo. :)

Glad to hear it!

Chapter 7: The Witch and the Wonders

Am I dead? Did I have a heart attack from the six? I can't hear anything. I can't move!

There's a flashing, flickering light above me, and I see a woman walking into it.

Did she have a magic touch? Can she heal people with her love? Surely she is the saint of Kynareth sent to heal me.

The light flashes out, and the roar of the crowd returns. I can still see vague shapes moving in the room, and I can feel the Daggerfall vixen wrapped around me. She pulls back and I stumble away. I don't know what to do or who to tell.

Coins clink against the ground all around us as she says loudly, "Not so fast, Loverboy! I'm taking you behind curtain one for round two!"

I feel her grab my leather straps and pull me toward the room. Thorley stepped out and addressed the crowd about what happened next, but I didn't hear more than the start.

What now? Only glistening shapes fade into view before me, nothing that feels solid or real. Does she need to finish the healing in this next room?

"Good job out there! My back and head are sore from that crap you pulled, but I've never gotten more tips in an evening. I'll be famous. I'm sure."

She wrapped a towel around me, and hugged me close around the waist from behind.

It must have meant more to her than to me just now, I think she wasn't the one who made me see. She's holding me tight, and all I do is wonder about the miracles before me.

Wonder later, address her now.

I pulled her arm till she stood in front of me.

"Thankyou for tonight. It's been the best night of my life."

With my hand at her back, I dipped her like we were dancing, and gave her a gentle kiss. I really meant it earlier; this has been the greatest night.

My vision presses me. She is just glimmers to me, but I can see the corners of room. After quick effort, I managed to get dressed. On any other night there would be a million reasons to stay. The figure of the woman I saw walking toward the light must have been part of the cure for my eyes.

Out on the streets I can see small points of torchlight here and there, and the very basic shapes of buildings. A heavy fog surrounds me that only lets a little through here and there.

The dull peace of silence is ever fleeting, but I would have nothing disturb it now.

A ship's shofar is blown in the harbor. At this time of night with nobody on the streets, the muffled blast through the streets has a chilling effect. I turn away from the harbor to make my way down the street.

Walking was easier when I couldn't see. I can hardly see anything now, but I'm dumb enough to walk as if I could. Strides are longer than they should be, and my feet are catching on anything.

A shrill shriek cuts through my ears! I can't take it! Grabbing my head doesn't make it stop, it just gets louder!

Stumbling further, I see two men fighting. They are clearer than the buildings. Where are their faces? They're fast enough that it's a blur to see them swing at each other. While creeping toward them, it's clear that the left one has the upper hand. When the man on the right falls, the left one rushes to choke him. He chokes the other man and pounds his head into the street.

It took me a moment before I realized I could do something. The shrieking stopped. I ran to tackle him. No way of knowing who is right, but there won't be a chance to ask in a minute.

As I get closer, I let out a yell. He didn't look over. I plowed right into him.

Nothing. Nobody was there. The street scraqed me as I slid down the stones. As apparitions, they were gone. Ghosts of my mind.

Eventually I have to stand up again. A young girl runs across the street. Further down I see two peasants in the mist pushing against the shield of a guardsman while he tries to hold his ground. Four archers form a line in the street and fire volleys toward me.

They begin as men, but the longer I stare, the more they become monsters. Their faces are twisted into grotesque poses as they become desperate, or take joy in what they're doing.

All mist. I walk on and run my hands through them as I go. What are they doing? No matter what's going on, they're either sad or fighting. I can see platoons of soldiers in the streets forcing back people at the ends of pikes. People are on their knees taking sword blows as they beg for mercy. Many are just running past me to escape the horror.

With a piercing pain the shriek started again! I'll be bleeding out of my ears, I can't think!

Ghosts and spirits jump between buildings! Others fighting in the streets are gutting their victims and then hunting for more. Women are being dragged out of their houses by their hair, and are having unspeakable acts done to them in the street.

Through the chaos, I see the woman walking away from me. Down the streets away from the harbor. The more I paid attention to her, the less I heard the shriek.

But there's so much to distract me! Horseman ride by slashing enemy foot soldiers, mages fire spells at masses of peasants. Everyone is either angry or in agony, and it just gets worse. Their horrible faces!

I push through the hordes, and they evaporate as quickly as they appear. Every sound they make adds to the noise. I can't wave that away.

What's the point of giving me sight if I can only see horrors and ghoulish figures? Am I cursed in this? Is this the future of our town? The past? What is it that can change these men this way?

Even worse, I think some of them can see me. A few have stared as I walked by, long knives in hand. None strike out at me, but I think they know something.

I run. Run and run toward the woman. She walks lightly ahead in a silvery dress. Through the gate and out into the countryside.

Legions of solders line the city. Siege machines rage against the walls, and even the dead are used as ammunition. Bodies and fire fly through the air in both directions. The soldiers are all dirty in their mud, sweat, and ash masks that crumble under tears when they are shot in the gut or watch their squad mates being consumed in fire.

Up in the hills where a small lookout faces the sea, she stops.

She vanishes.

I looked and saw no city, just the suffering masses in battle. I had to turn away.

A small cave opening is opposite the lookout. I didn't notice it before. The light coming from it was just the light I saw the woman walk into when I was at the Pail.

The mouth of the cave whispered,

"Come!"

The pain and visions were gone, all that was left was the light from the entrance.

This sounds like he got slipped a white Owsley (Osley), lol. My son was hearing impaired all his life, and when he was 6-7 years old the doctor did a surgery that gave him hearing - he went through something similar to this, everything he heard was way too loud for him, and he would scream and cover his ears if you turned a faucet on, or flushed a toilet - you never realize how high the decibles are on things like these if you hear them all the time. Now he can blast rock music and it doesn't bother him at all, so he eventually got over that, lol.

Ooooh!

From bawdy and hilarious, to mystical and creepy in one swift move.

This is why I also voted for this as the best new story of the year. It's just so inventive - I seriously haven't a clue where it's going, which I love - and the dialogue is awesome. x2.

Continue please, this has become a real treat to be savoured :)

That's interesting to hear about. I didn't know about those things. I was mostly wanting him to be disoriented with horrible visions going on around him.

Thankyou much! I think the plot is shining through with this next section. Think of the imagery of Daggerfall covens for this section.

The only way is forward. No use waiting, I walk right in.

As I walk through the entrance, all I see is a naked woman. A very beautiful one. That's probably all I want to see. She's not naked enough though, there's a scarf that floats all around her. It loosely covers the important parts. You couldn't find a nicer thing to first show a blind man, this is tops.

She says,

"Hello, Pants. It's been forever since I've had a man around. The other girls are shy to visit tonight, but we're so very glad you came."

"I'm glad to be here, believe me!"

She blushed a little and giggled. The night gets better and better. She pulled her brunette hair behind her ear, and I wanted nothing but to watch her.

I watched a she pulled bottles and mystical animals together on the floor. I'd never seen such creatures the last time I could see. Curious little silly things that seemed harmless enough, and she would dip or sprinkle them with liquids or powders.

With a flick of her wrist she would lightly toss them toward the symbols drawn on leather mats and rocks. The creatures would dance. Lightly bouncing at first, it became more of a rhythmic movement as others of them joined in.

I just realized I could see more than her. Could I see more things all the time? Or is it just that I was only concentrating on her before? The background is a little clearer all the time.

"My lady had me bring you here. I've been watching you with her for a week."
"Watching me why? Were you looking at me in the evening on Tirdas?"
"Don't worry about that. Guys have to do it once in awhile."

"Why me?"
"The lady will tell you. She's told me to bring her in now."

I had the perfect smart-ass comment about comparing this to an Orc-and-cow joke, but I held it in. This is meeting my savior from the darkness. I think the witch didn't give me sight; she must not be in charge tonight.

The room cackled with lightning and energy. It was a slow pulsating wave of electricity sweeping the interior of the cave, with the creatures each slowly extending their own bursts of lightning toward a the center of the room. The witch stood with her arms outstretched on that symbol.

Fantastical light wrapped around her, clothing her in the raiment of the sky. It pulsed harder and harder until it evaporated in an instant.

There was no more room. What stood before me was a tall and gorgeous with jet black hair. She's far too tall to be who I met earlier. Her clothing was a black bra and skirt, with a slit high up the leg.

I was most fascinated though with her glowing eyes. The wonder I saw as I stared into them? A lifetime passed.

Drawing nearer, she spoke,

"You have been the subject of all my thoughts this week, Pants. What is it that keeps you going?"

I hadn't thought about it. Does she want an actual answer or do I make up some bull? I'll just stay quiet.
She said with authority,

"There's a healthy, lifelike quality about you. Despite your circumstances, you want to live life to the fullest. You still dream of a better tomorrow and an ideal life."

I think she doesn't know I was considering suicide this week.

"I do know."

What now? I didn't say anything.

"You never have to. I know your mind while I'm in her body. I'd like to have a place in your mind so I can help you."

Stop thinking. Stop thinking. White walls. Tonight felt good. Stop thinking! What am I sitting on? Is it cold in here? Stop thinking!

"Nevermind that. Concentrate on me while we talk. It matters to me that you agree."

She's too beautiful for me not to agree with her.

"I know."

That smile is one in a million.

"We need each other, Pants. You need me to give you sight. I need you to do some work for me."

Can I start now? Should I undress?

"Slow down, you had your fill of that earlier."

I was promised a round two.

"It was just that which let me get to you. I've been trying all week. Your suicidal thoughts were caused by me. Don't worry; I wouldn't have let you do it."

Thanks? I guess. You did what now?

"Or when you felt angry at the priest. Me again. That was right after I first noticed you being irreverent outside the temple. You were feeling those things beforehand, I just made them stronger. All your deep emotions this week were my probing visits. The lovely vixen you engaged tonight finally got you emotionally in tune with me, and here I am."

The woman who walked into the light?

"Yes"

But then why did the witch need to summon you here?"

"I only cracked your door; I need you to accept me inside."

"Northpoint is ready for a change. We've both left it alone long enough. The priests of Kynareth you encountered under the Bishop are not the only authorities on Her worship. There is another. Her champions, the Kynaran Order."

The Paladins are still around?

"Their organization had been in decline, but their new leader is a firebrand. He will bring real change to the temple. Much needed change. You were there firsthand to see how the temple now charges for healing. What you haven't seen is how they treat the townspeople, their very worshippers."

"But you will see. They support the Margrave as well. You don't know it yet, but his policies are wearing down the people and the town. What you don't know now won't hurt you. You will learn it in time."

I have no idea.

"I need you to accept me. Take me in and help me in several tasks. In return, I will restore sight unto you. It won't be like the sight you had before."

Gimped sight?

"No. Higher quality vision. In the midst of night you will see the world as clearly as the day. Things at any distance will be as detailed as if they were near your face, as you wish it. You can close your eyes and still see perfectly, you can watch the world while you sleep."

"You previously saw nothing, now you shall see everything. This is the gift I offer in exchange for your services."

It's what I've wanted most these years. A second chance, a chance to do it right. I can work, I can make my dreams come true. My house with Evangeline can be more than wishful thinking.

There's no drawn out ordeal here. This is the deal of the century. And nothing is being given to me. I'll have to work for my sight in a fair deal. I'll do for her whatever she needs.

I look back at her, to see her beautiful smiling face.

Out loud I say,

"One last thing; a solemn promise for myself. Part of the past I have to put behind me. As I stand before you I swear, I will not grovel or beg again."

She tilted her head to the side slightly with curiosity. Still smiling, she opened her arms wide.

I want it. I want it bad. I step forward into her warm, loving embrace.

Uh Oh, I see trouble ahead..............So Kynereth put on the six show? I knew he was into wildlife, I didn't know he was into wild life

RE: the comments: I don't know if it is the same for sight, of course; hence the white Osley comment. Still, I see trouble ahead for Pants, when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Soon, but not yet. This next segment is kinda bland, but I need it to drive home how much this has affected Pants. I'm going to look it over soon, suggest anything. :)

:biglaugh:

When things sound too good to be true, they normally are, but it did work out for the Little Mermaid. Mostly because her boyfriend impaled a sea monster he was about to marry on his bowsprit. You've probably guessed though that if it was easy, it wouldn't be a fun story.

I woke up naked on the floor. This is the first morning of a brand new me.

The witch was sitting, holding her chin with her hand. She asked,

"Did everything go ok?"
"I think so. I can't see that well yet."
"It comes a bit at a time. The magic takes time to bond with you. You'll have full sight by mid morning."

Standing up, I keep looking right at the attractive witch. Go for a hat trick? This is my lucky day.

"So, you wanna snuggle up for awhile until I have full sight?"

She laughs again.

"So you can't see through illusion spells yet? You still see me as a young woman?"

Uh-oh. What's the plan to back out of here?

She says,

"I put up the illusion for the benefit of visitors, but since you're going to see me as I am when your vision is ready?"

The witch lowered her disguise. Her body is old and not well cared for. Grandma Truly? And as naked as her disguise. Hope she doesn't mind me looking away.

With the disguise I wish was permanent back on, she started making breakfast. I ask,

"What were all those visions last night? Those people turning into ghouls as they attacked each other. Is it the future? Are we going to be attacked?

"The future is in the realm of seers like myself, but that was the past. It was the revolution that happened in this town that killed King Athel and caused Margrave Kensington to reign in his stead. Kensington was an upstart knight in service of the Duke. He's been conducting battles ever since."

"How were they changing into ghouls?"
"You saw what they were becoming on the inside. Their souls were rotting from the grievances they forced upon each other. "
"Why can't I see what your soul really looks like?"

"Last night was a temporary spell that I cast on you so you would have enough sight to make it here. The past just wedged its way into your sight line."
"Did you cast it right when I was with the Ball Breaker?"

"The lady had to get inside your head first. She got in when you climixed, and I zipped you while you stood there together. I guess that means the girl saw some screwed up things too?"

"Then where's Lowell?"
"Back in the cave somewhere with the rest of the coven. He's a dandy warlock, but this summoning business is really what I do best."

Time enough to be going. If I knew what that was she was cooking for breakfast, I might have some. No such luck.

"I've taken up enough of your time. Thankyou for the great evening, and you can't imagine how glad I am to be able to see again!"

"Oh sure, sure thing sonny. Keep on the path on your way back into town. One last thing! Be careful who you tell about your miracle. The Lady needs you for some clandestine missions, and it would be better if people didn't know you could see."

When I left the cave, there was still a mist blocking my view at a distance. I don't know if it was natural or just in my head.

I made my way slowly down the path to a clearing. The mist cleared as I walked to a lower elevation, and I could see the trees. Birds playfully chirped as they chased each other around. Squirrels scampered back as I approached them. To be able to associate the view with sound and smell again is really something.

The sun was high, but a light rain was sprinkling on me. It cleansed me as I made my way toward the road.

I just can't stop smiling. More comes into my view all the time, and it's a perfect blend of beautiful fall colors. The trees are bright orange and yellow, with a thin layer of leaves covering the ground around them.

Birds all around sing the Lady's glory. She is surely present in everything. A roebuck lightly bounds through the woods, driving his fawn before him. You can't help but be seduced by the pleasant nature of everything there is to be observed.

At the crest of the hill, the mist rolls away as I stand still. Rays of light streak through the fog and illuminate the beautiful city. The light reveals it from the top down. From the pointed towers to the tiled rooftops, from the flags on balconies to the city walls, everything shone. There was an un-worldly glow about it. Everything was clean and well maintained; every stone was as it should be.

I've been living in a dream city and never knew it. When I'd sleep at night as a child, I would dream of a better place than my home in Skyrim. It's the perfect day at the perfect town.

The castle sits higher above the town on the opposite side. Colorful banners hang from the paraqets, steady watchmen walk the walls, and morning visitors walk up the winding path to the front gate.

Bells at the temple chime a solemn hymn to the morning light. The sleepy city slowly awakens with the sounds of livestock and people doing morning chores.

Ships glide slowly into the port, while others are being loaded or unloaded at the docks. The city gates are opened to travelers with the slow creak of wood and iron. There are buildings outside the city walls; cute little cottages with livestock pens in back. Toll gates for merchants and carts. A small row of businesses line the main path, which sell traveling necessities and preserved food.

I haven't lived until today. Things aren't just how I would have liked them; the world is everything it should be. Except for the lady's little problems. If she's just sending me to fix them, they can't be that difficult, right? Either way, I'm up for the task.

From this day I will hold my pledge. I will not grovel, I will not beg. I am a new man who makes his own way. My chance to earn my slice of paradise is here.

I didn't think it was bland at all, it was a necessary "summary" of the consequences for Pants. I liked it!

Thanks for reading!

Chapter 8: Making Up For Lost Time

"Wheee-whoooo!"

A woman riding by me on the road let out a wolf whistle. I'm still naked. What to do?

I don't suppose I'll find clothes out here. There's a chance that I could knock on a door and they would be charitable, but while the streets are still quiet I think I'll head to Floyd's. He's probably the first I'd tell about my eyesight. Can you stroll into a town naked? I don't see why not.

The few people outside give me double-takes. I hope they're more impressed than confused. Go back to gardening, old man. It isn't right to stare.

When I was nearing the gate, a guard on top of the wall with his friend called out,

"Hey Snowman! Nord! Who are you?"
"I am Pants without pants!"
"Why are you naked?"
"A witch took my clothes and left me on the road!"

They spoke in a quieter voice to each other, but I could still hear them.

"Well, he looks dumb enough."
"We all know those na?ve Nords can be convinced of anything. He doesn't seem smart enough to lie to us."

Loudly again he spoke,

"Alright! Have you got any friends in town here?"
"Yes, I live here."
"You get you some clothes real quick! This ain't the kind of place where people go around naked!"
"I know, I live here."

"Don't go letting people see you in there. There's kids' doing chores out this morning."
"Yes I know, I live here."
"Get in, get in!"

Gits. Days like today make me feel glad I'm not a half-wit.

I'm having a hard time balancing wanting to run to Floyd's for clothing and slowing down to see the streets I walk all the time.

There are three story towers here and there, and five story ones on several houses. Plant pots hang from the edges of second story windows all along the street, with interior slatted shutters for the summertime and exterior hard shutters for the winter. There are things I never saw in Skyrim and I really just wonder what they are.

Posts stand in the ground outside of businesses for tying horses to, and livestock corrals protrude from the side yards of houses all along the street. Vendor booths are scattered at the edges of streets for people who can't afford shops of their own. The buildings seem older, but well maintained and fashionable.

Signs hang out onto the streets from the buildings, with symbols for what kinds of shops they were. Various buildings hang a little farther out on their second floor, or step back with a balcony. Streetside tables and chairs are still corralled near places that serve food. The fountains I would drink from are all clean and sparkling with interesting figures and sculptures spewing water out.

Floyd's is just up ahead. There's a little smoke coming out of his chimney. That fence that gives me trouble looks much shorter than I thought it was. The sunny front yard has the barren laundry ropes hanging loose. I wonder if Raddin did that.

The street is still pretty clear; I might as well not waste time. Just knock.

A woman answers the door, who I hope is Virene. Who else would it be? It's her. She looks me up and down without saying anything. There's a shocked look on her face, and after a few seconds of staring straight into my eyes, she slams the door.

I look around a bit, then knock again. Floyd answers the door. He looks shocked too.

"You come around here to show my wife your wiener?"
"I came to show you! Then ask if you'd help my problem."
"I don't check for spots, man."
"The problem is me being naked."
"I'll say it is!"

"I've just had the best night of my life, and you expect me to come back with clothes on? It's been an odyssey!"
"A drunken odyssey, she must have taken you to one hell of an after party."

He steps back inside and calls over his shoulder,

"Close your eyes folks, there's nothing to see here!"

Floyd walks toward his drawers, and brings me back some pants and a shirt.

"Thanks Floyd, I'll get these right back to you."
"After you rub your parts on them, I don't want them back!"
"Then thanks for the clothes. I appreciate them."

Raddin is eating something out of a bowel, and it makes me hungry to think about it. I've mooched enough for one morning though. I can get my leg bag back at the Pail. He can't be here when I tell Floyd about my vision though, he's likely to tell a friend.

"Hey Raddin, can you scrounge up a couple eggs?"

Thankfully that was Virene with the same idea. Though she probably just wants to know what's going on.

He obliges and shuts the door behind him. I say to Floyd,

"Something big happened last night."
"I'll say. You really had the crowd going. They'll have ideas for months on what to do with their wives and mistresses."
"Beyond that, what happened after! I must say, during the evening entertainment that I was impressive. And it was so much fun. But then after, I could see streaks of light."
"What?"
"I could see little streaks of light and forms."

"You're not screwing with us, are you?"
"I'm completely serious. It was amazing. I walked through the town, I met a witch in a cave, and she summoned Lady Kynareth herself to give me vision."

Floyd looks back at Virene. She says,

"Are you sure you're not dreaming it?"
"I might have been, but the dream was too good. I nailed Kynareth. Twice!"
"What can you see now?"
"Everything, and more. I can see you, Floyd, the house. Even Raddin out back playing with his spear. You're prettier than I expected, Virene. Way to go Floyd!"

She went to the window and said to Floyd,

"That boy really is messing with his Argonian spear. My word..."
"That's amazing, Pants!"

"I know! I love it. I've seen the town like it was new. It's such a beautiful place."

Virene says,

"You can't see through my shirt, can you?"
"Ehh, no. But I hadn't been trying till just now."
"I can just see the Lady giving you sight so you could become a Peeping Edgar!"

"Don't give him ideas, Virene."

Too late. I'm going to go look at boobs.

I was lucky it happened that way. I really was asking myself how to get him back into the city, then I realised that he was a naked Nord. Perfect.

Loved it Shades!

Thankyou! I'm less sure about this whole chapter 8 because while I left space for it, I never decided specifically what to do with that space before I pick up on the overall planned chapters again. Working hard to seal the leaks!

"They won't be open till later today. Especially after last night!"

Floyd was right. The Pail would be in recovery from last night's show. Lots of stuff to clean up, getting all the employees back in shape and having a doctor check them out." I can see the trouble. I say,

"Good point, they need to rest up and get sober anyway. Meet me there for drinks after work."

"What'll you do all day?"
"Enjoy the wonder of the city, man. Look at everything. Twice!"

Floyd stood up and came over to me. In a serious tone, he hugged me and said,

"I can't say how happy I am for you. It's God's will that you see again, and she must have a grand mercy for her people. Be devout, you owe her."

He released me, and as he stepped back I said,

"I know, I know, but she mentioned something about that too. Everything isn't alright with how things are running in her temple. She didn't say what, but things may be changing soon for the better."

Virene looked curious and asked,

"Are you to be her prophet?"
"She didn't tell me much of anything about that. Just live until she asks for me."
"Can we give you anything?"
"No, I'll find one of my stashes of coins. Thankyou both, I'll see you tonight."

It's not just all the stuff I can see, it's all the stuff I can now do.

I'm drawing a blank. Come on! I sit around all the time and think up crap I would do if I could see, and I can't think of anything now? What the hell!

There's a brown leather ball sitting on the streetside. I run up and kick it as hard as I can down the street.

That's it, the kids. That ball belonged to the kids and I want to see what the kids are doing. Maybe I'm a jerk for kicking that ball that far. I should return it.

Chasing the ball down the street, I can see a boy training his goats by running with two of them harnessed together down the street. The boy could be Geor; he was training goats for the race. The race is in a week!

Without waving, the boy in front yells,

"Pants! My goats are stronger every day!"
"That's great, Geor! I heard you coming along, but I didn't know that was you."
"I'd show you my cart if you could see. I painted the white dove of Kynareth on it for luck. And the wheels are all patched up."

"I smell something awry with your goats there."
"They drop during jogs sometimes, I've gotta find a way to stop that before the race. They don't run right when they're trying to crap."
"That sounds like a terrible problem. Can you feed them six hours before the race so they'll crap it out before it starts?"

"It's a great plan! I'd better keep running them now though. See you, Pants!"
"See you!"

And this time, I really mean it. What a handsome kid!

This will make the race a hundred times better. What do people wear to races? I can see how I'm dressed now; I might as well make use of that.

I can see how that guy is dressed now too. Holy crap. He's got a gray robe with a white dove on it, and he's got a long rod in his hand. The fat belly he's sporting is pulling his large robe tight around the waist. With those cheap sandals and bad haircut, I don't know how people take him seriously.

Oh. OH! It's the freaking Sacristan. I've got to get him. I bet I've got a bruise from when he whacked me with his staff.

How do you "get" people? There wasn't a lot of time play pranks on people when I worked on the farm. I hear things from the guys, but mostly they do things to shopkeepers or something like that. It has to be done before he gets back to the temple. Or wherever he's going. Where is he going?

We're nearer the boardwalk now. It has to be something quick and improvised. There's an empty burlap bag beside a building here, do I put it on his head?

No, that would take the coordination of someone who can see. Can't let him in on that. He's not too far away yet. Do I let him know I was the one who did it? I have to, then I would have reason for knowing just where he was.

There's exactly what I need. A bucket of some brown stuff. A kid is applying it to the underside of a ship's hull.

"What is that gel?"
"It's Brown Stuff."
"Well, yeah. What's it called?"
"Brown Stuff."

"Is that the best name they could come up with for it?"
"What do you want? It's brown. And it's stuff. Don't complicate things."
"I don't care. Can I borrow the bucket?"
"No, I need it."
"I'll get you more. I need it for a prank."

"I'll lose my job on this if I don't finish."
"This laugh will be worth it."
"Who are you pranking?"
"The Sacristan."

I can see that he's full of turmoil. He wants to see this prank happen, but he needs his job.

"Ok, you can take it. I'll be near you to recover the bucket, and I'll borrow some more of the stuff."
"What's in Brown Stuff?"
"Tar, Pitch, and Train Oil."
"Awesome."

Jackpot. This will work.

We run to catch up with the Sacristan, who stopped to talk to someone. The boy stays back a little. When the Sacristan moves away, I'll get him.

Two guys working on the docks are unloading open topped boxes. A lady walks toward a fishing boat that just pulled in to dock. She isn't dressed like a wife, more like a friend you pay for. The Sacristan sure noticed. He wrapped his conversation up quick. Then he took a few quick steps around the corner so he could see the woman continue walking. Here's my chance. I come up on him and,

"Hey, Tubby!"
"Err, what?"
"I was over here, and I just knew it was you."
"How?"

"Are you standing close, sir? I can smell you"
"How can you smell anything past your own stench?"
"You smell real particular sir, as if you expect that cologne to draw a lady over to work your snake for you."

Gasping, he said,

"Never! I would not engage the services of some woman on the docks!"
"Right, you're just happy assaulting blind guys cause they don't see it coming."
"You insolent worthless [censored]!"

He pulls back to hit me like before, but I cover him with the Brown Stuff. The Sacristan shrieks like he didn't see me holding it. He wheels back, and falls into the two guys carrying boxes.

It's even better than I could have hoped. In the open topped boxes, they were carrying peanuts. That [censored] has peanuts stuck all over him now.

I roll the bucket over to the boy, who's in stitches, and I pick up the dropped box.

"Here's some nuts in your face!"

Pants is back!! :twirl:
He sure is, and the good times roll!

I spent the day walking the city. There were streets everywhere I had never guessed existed. It's been a scavenger hunt with my life to find all the things I remembered, then to see what else was around them. I even found the graffiti of the man trying to drink his own stream.

There were glances at me all the time, but nobody stared. Once they spoke, I'd have a shot at recognizing someone. Near the shrines I'd find the people who were always there. The Veteran Amputee waved at me, which made me wonder if he always waved at me. I've never been able to see till today, and there's no way he knows that now. Maybe he could make a deal to be healed.

Or maybe he thinks I'm stuck up for never waving back. Have I ever told him I'm blind? I don't talk to him much; maybe he's crazy and doesn't remember?

Often times I have to look at the sky and walk. It's hard to think sometimes of where I am based on what I knew before when I can see everything. Being able to see has thrown off my sense of direction, and when I close my eyes, I can still see everything.

Everything. I can count the hairs on the guard on the other side of town's city wall. There's four. I can see the muscle twitches of birds that fly over. Watch out below.

The day passes slowly as I take it all in, and when the evening comes, I head to the Pail. I wouldn't have noticed it getting darker if not for the vendors closing up shop. Folks that own their own places can stay open later, but the booths like to avoid operating after dark because people can more easily palm their goods.

The sea of people that had been in the streets all day slowly receded back into the buildings. Low tide again, just like the morning.

There's a certain segment of the population who are quickwalking to their favorite hotspots. They must be anxious after the day's work, and need the beer to settle them down. Grantham can be like that. He seems kind of nervous and quiet, even around friends until he gets a couple beers in him. It's usually when he's been working hard all day and is tired of people.

It's time.

Time to walk over to my favorite place. The place that started it all. The Pail Rider.

With the night approaching, people are putting out their lanterns and torches to light the streets. There's never a huge stretch down a path before a curve or jut obscures your view. The lamps burn brightly as the sky dims, all at different heights. There's a hint of magic in the thick night air.

Lightly I move onward. I've got all night, I've got the rest of my life to hang out at the Pail with my friends, but I want to see them now more than ever. Streets dive off every direction. It's a wonder I know my course at all, though these few years saw me there often.

Rounding the last set of shops, I can see it clearly. It's gorgeous. There's a tower at the door, with a high second floor behind it and a beer garden outside. The sturdy wooden framework has iron brackets holding up lanterns, and large metal hinges on the windows and doors.

It's just what I want it to look like. With a deep breath, I pull the door open and step inside.

Tables and chairs line the windows and edges of the building, with the center performance area slightly sunken. On the left I can see where they'd set up a stage if needed, and the rooms behind I must have exited from last night. The chains still hang from the ceiling, although tied to the balcony so they won't be in the way. Hanging lanterns on the underside of the balcony provide light for the tables and side stages.

I'd think it would take me longer to recognize everything, but I'm strangely unsurprised. There's no home for me but here, and it's all familiar to me whether I've seen it or not.

Even my friends. They sit around one of the larger tables. Marcel usually sees me by now and comes to get me, but he's looking the other way toward Jenessa at the bar. Grantham and Relie are making fun of each other, and trying to make catch Floyd up in the conversation. He's having none of it.

Of course I saw Floyd this morning, but I wasn't fascinated then how he looked. He's tall with a large moustache, with the muscles of a hard worker. Grantham is the image of a genius on the cheap; looking a little dirty for a man as smart as he is. Relie's dad is a well off merchant, so she is the best dressed of us all. Marcel is never too hard up for money. With his profession though, he can't afford to look that way.

Floyd calls out "Pants!"

I walk that way and holler at the bar "I need two tall ones!"

Jenessa does her dumb little dance back there while she fills the mugs, and I sit at the table to hear Relie say,

"You're wearing Floyd's clothes? They don't fit a skinny guy like you. Are you having sleepovers at his house?"

"There was no sleeping done if you know what I mean."

Floyd just looks offended and says, "Hey!"

Relie jumps on it.

"Wait, were you over there for a threesome with Floyd and Virene? I'll have to high five her for pulling that off."
"There's no way this ass hole screwed my wife. Or me!"
"I'm so glad you had to add that last part."

Grantham sits back in his chair and says, "I'd help you Floyd, but you left me hanging earlier with her."

Jenessa arrives with the drinks, and Marcel is trying to think of the right thing to say while she's standing there. He ends up with a goofy smile, and she smiles back before returning to the bar.

I clink the mugs together and the look at me,

"Alright guys, pull it in a little. I have big news. Yes I was naked at Floyd's house earlier, but it doesn't have to do with that."
"Woohoo!"
"Thankyou, Grant. Last night during the show, the spirits came to me. While I was out there on the floor, I started to see hazy shapes."

"Did she screw you back to good vision?"
"Not quite, Relie. Let me go on. After leaving the show, I saw ghosts and visions in the streets. I was led on to a mountain cave. In the cave that night, I [censored] you not, I saw Lady Kynareth. She says I've got to work for her, right after she gave me back my sight. I laid her too. No joke. She was great. I can see perfectly now!"

Floyd and I stared at the others while they looked at each other with suspicion.

"[censored]."
"I ain't kidding Marcel."
"Bull. [censored]. No way man."
"What, you just think this is the least funny prank I've ever pulled?"
"Definitely the dumbest. There's no way you can see."

"I can see! Tell me to look at something. I can do it."
"You didn't screw anyone else last night either!"

Grantham took his side saying,

"Yeah, after last night's battle, you probably wandered around outside and had a swell dream. You didn't screw anyone in a mountain cave. We all know Kynareth doesn't put out on the first date."

"Well I can't prove that I slipped her the argonian, but I can see stuff. Ask me to look at something."
"Alright, who is that coming in?"

I turned in my chair to face the door, and was astounded at the sight.

She was a vision of beauty. The light played upon her silvery gown, which shaped to her form. Her bright golden hair cascaded around her shoulders, and she stood tall for a Breton, especially in those heels.

I was overwhelmed to think the unreal sights had returned, but all in an instant I realized who it was.

Evangeline.

She smiled at us like she knew something. I couldn't resist. I went right up to her, and all the while she stared right into my eyes, and smiled. She opens her arms to embrace me, and I step right in. Perhaps the greatest of gifts from my benefactor, and something I never would have guessed till now was upon me. Love at first sight.

Next month it can be Fallout: New Vegas, and after that it can be TES V - THE MMO !!!!!!! BWAHAHAHA !!!!! - Okay, I am going to read the chapter now !! So glad you posted again, don't make me start writing terrible poetry on here to get you to post chapters like I do Rumpleteasza and BSparrow's threads, lol.

Woo Hoo, Pants is in love!!! - The second half was ripe with your usual awesome humor but the first half of the chapter was really deep - you have to have really thought about this to put so much detail into the feelings of someone getting their sight after a lifetime blind - AWESOME JOB on that, just Awesome! You ROCKED this chapter!!!!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! That was so sweet!!!!

-ahem-

Good work, as usual. I like how he felt disoriented now that he can see. Its kinda like how if a deaf person could suddenly hear again, he wouldn't be able to drown out "white noise" because of the shock. Really good job
