The Perfect Song for Skyrim

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 9:36 pm

How can no one mention Fleet Foxes?! Even if it's not metal it's so unbelievably medieval and for me very "Skyrimish".

Listen to Mykonos, it's like going back 8-900 years or something.

Hmm... I'm gonna name a few metal bands I will listen to whilst playing Skyrim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKZd4U397M4 (though I have a limited supply of there songs), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOHqoJq9nK0 (though I have a limited supply of there songs), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEbYs0lNfq4, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zTL62maQ7o, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikgNRCSifbs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxTfktXzPkc, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK1snO5mW28, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPzQcz4iGIE, some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2YCOSSLhK4, some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_5X3FwzVeI, maybe some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqcmTZthKQk (I listened to nothing but them while doing a complete playthrough of Darksiders, by now I pretty much know the lyrics to all their songs, they also have some epic looking album art). Yeah I've got a few metal bands to listen to for this game, some more fitting to the rugged lands than others, but I still like them all.

No way around than the best soundtrack ever..

One example, just watch all the ones with the Gothic 3 logo on the screen. Theyre just so amazing :)

Yeeeeeah no. I wish people would stop posting threads like this, sullying one of the few examples of a young medium that manages to achieve artistic status with metal - one of the only examples of an ancient medium that manages to definitively not be art.

Bleugh.

I think wanderer by ensiferum is a better song.
I think Tyr is a more fitting band.

The original skyrim soundtrack is of course the best music for this game.

I picture a blizzard while exploring the mountain area, you hear the roar of a dragon in the distance, but you cant see where it's comming from, the blizzard makes it hard to see anything~
You continue up the mountain for a while only to hear the roaring getting closer, and the sound of heavy wings beating~
You hurry up the rugged pathway on the mountain and find a small opening and quickly duck for cover in there, and hold your breath as the dragon passes~
Then you realise the opening in the mountain is much bigger then you realise, and continues onwards~

Still, nothing beats Jeremy Soule for this genre =x

I have decided that my Skyrim character is going to be an ultra-skinny black metal warrior named Ulver Kvlt.

No. TES music is more about immersive ambience music, not actual songs.

I think the reason some people feel this music (Folk/Viking Metal) fits Skyrim is because the music itself is based very much off of fantasy, and in general can sometimes sound very fantastical. The harshness of the music is there to represent the harshness of the lands, but there is the melodic parts to show the underlying beauty of the landscape.

Though I'm not a fan of Ensiferum, and I kind of find that song to be a bit dull. I would much prefer something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvU-iuN9OOQ. The distorted vocals I think are very important to the overall sound and I don't get why people find them annoying. They make me think of the very base of human expression, just pure screaming out. Even if you were to imagine a viking warrior screaming out whilst charging into battle, I would imagine their voices became pretty distorted.

But if you really can't stand the distorted vocals, then try skipping to 3:30 in the Wolfchant song I posted, they have a group of people singing in clean vocals.

I don't know nothing about "The perfect song for Skyrim", but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLuW-GBaJ8k is the perfect song to play BEFORE playing Skyrim for the 1st time...

Don't feel bad about people shooting you down, OP. Not everyone has an ear for metal. Personally I love Ensiferum and thinks it suits the viking theme well.

Here's my playlist:

For climbing the highest, most epic peak in all of Skyrim: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doc2JAO0Z_c

For darker parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNAU5Mn0Nr0&feature=related

For strolling through the town or taverns on a cold night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Es3s5ccKLA

For exploration in the countryside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNs1iSS0m3I&feature=related

Also Tyr, Immortal, Moonsorrow, Bathory, etc.

And also, on topic.
May I suggest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZGrzdU70JY. Not really folk metal, but...
