The "pop-ins" and "pop-ups" of nearby enviro

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 3:19 am

After googling this topic a lot the past two days I thought I'd post it here ...

I've reinstalled the game after a 18 months or so hiatus from the game of which I've played Morrowind with MGE.

Now I realize that graphics is a subjective experience largely influenced by its time... and of course I don't remember "pop-ins" of this level. After getting used to a more seamless world this have started to bother me. The grass distance is fine really, but it's really noticeable when an ayleid ruin (and trees) just pop up before me eyes..

So I'm curious, are there any mods and/or fixes for this?

Apparently changing the .ini and "uGridsToLoad=5" to a higher setting is not a viable alternative as it causes tearing in the water ...

Any ideas?

Maybe using distant lod mods. Since they will be visible in distance, I guess getting closer won't trigger pop-ins.

I've tried some lod mods, namely the ones listed here:

However they don't deal with this issue. Here are some screens.

Exactly, it's not there, but as I ride closer it pops into view, out of no where:

That'll take care of your Distant LOD woes.

Thanks! That's definitely an improvement.

Then there's the trees and bushes popping into view, slightly annoying still, but I guess I can live with it (and hopefully get accustomed to it again) unless there exist a viable tweak.

Funny how nothing of this was an issue earlier. I even remember that mod some years ago, with your reminder, and just didn't bother with it earlier as I was happy with the graphics :P
