the prisoner challenge!

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:01 pm

ok I got this idea from another thread but will cite it here.

make a female bosmer and complete every guild, shivering isles, Arena, KotN, main quest and any side quest you care for...

all in the prisoner clothes you start in.

that means no weapons, no armour, no health potions, no spells (except basic heal/fire)

No self-respecting elven lass would be caught dead staying in those fuggly prisoner rags. Ugh!

You can't do the Arena that way, without a mod.

Gowns? Buffy? I'm sure she would be willing to go through the game if properly dressed in a simple outfit, but prison garb? Perhaps something just a tad more fashionable?

As noted, you can't do the Arena that way - Owyn won't let you fight unless you're in the Arena armor.

Other than that though, I've got a character who was something like that, at least for a bit. He was an Argonian hand-to-hander, and he didn't even wear all the prison garb - just the pants. He didn't do the guilds though - just side quests and dungeon-diving and such. It wasn't so much that I avoided the guilds - it's just that I played him as extremely anti-social and he just wasn't interested in joining any of those fancy-pants guilds (see what I did there?).

He made it to about, IIRC, level 5, then hit a wall. The world just started getting too dangerous for him to keep up with it armed with nothing but his fists and in nothing but a pair of shabby pants. I think I could've kept him going for a while longer, but I was certain he was going to be demolished at about level 9 anyway, so I gave up on that idea, swapped his pants for a pair of iron greaves (still no shirt and no shoes) and gave him a set of enchanted daggers.

Could be worth trying again, but I'm with Acadian on this one - no self-respecting Bosmer lass is going to stay in those grubby prison clothes.

Now an Orc maybe...... ?

I think ghastly's character http://ghastley.org/oblivion/images/blossom2.jpg would put down her foot against this as well. A girl always has to think about what she is wearing, no matter what her race. It can be http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion294.jpg, or http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion203.jpg, but to be neither is a crime against estrogen!

There is a mod that adds a ring to the game which substitutes for the arena armor, allowing one to wear whatever one wants. I believe it has an unenchanted option, so it would be the equivalent of just wearing the prison clothes.

Yeah, you can't use poisons, and you have almost no ranged attack at all (the OP's suggested flare spell is too weak to be useful very long, and it's basically useless against all the dunmer archer bandits in the game.) The only way I can see that this would work is to prevent leveling almost completely, to keep that spell and the starting healing spell useful; you'd have to either never sleep, or set the character with all never-use majors.

I've played a character similar to this, but with the further "rule" that my character was able to use anything freely given to her. So, once we got a short way into the Main Quest, she had acquired a nice lightly-enchanted cuirass, from her friend in Kvatch, and a very good katana with her induction into the Blades. She was a Breton, though; I also have my doubts about any elf being dumb enough to try this.

A Nord, now... A Nord might even throw away the prison suit, or have it stolen by a Witch... Any Morrowind players here...? ;)

Ah.... now there's an idea. I did notice early on that Oblivion had a sort of disconcerting lack of naked Nords. Yngvar Doom-sayer in the Isles is about as close as it gets, though he's got that big ol' warhammer and greaves instead of pants. Well.... and I guess you can sort of count Manheim at the Inn of Ill Omen.....

Q: Know what the difference is between a Nord and a Breton that both have 100 in the same attributes?

A: 50% magic resistance.

Just sayin' . . .

I beg to differ. There's another difference, and that's that the Breton knows the difference and the Nord doesn't. ;)

Prejudices. The Nords wouldn′t have been great warriors and conquerors without having something between their ears. Remember, a dumb fighter is a dead fighter :dead:

If it's a prejudice, it's built into the lore. Male Bosmers and Nords are the pratfall guys in ES games. :)

And of course Blossom's outfit is both. I split the velvet outfit into top and skirt and applied Transcendental Sigil Stones for Fire/Shock/Frost Shield to the two halves and her shoes for a 75% defense rating. You have to enchant Daedric armor to get higher. I forget how many of the quest lines she's done, but she is at least CoC, Arch-Mage and Madgod. I don't think she did the Arena, as she refused to wear the armor.

Yeah, well stereotypes are necessary. But it′s as with the Bosmers, don′t judge them all because of http://images.uesp.net//3/3c/OB-npc-Adoring_Fan.jpg :D
