Is the Radeon HD 5750 or 5770 A Good GPU For Crysis 2?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 5:07 am

Well I've got a Sparkle GTS 250 Low Profile (that's right, the one that's fro HTPCs) with an Athlon II X2 250 , both at Stock Speeds, running Windows 7 32 bit with 3Gb ram. On 1280*720 I like to run the game at 'Gamer' detail, because IMO I can't see the difference between the Gamer and the higher settings. Or that I'm blind e_e

My step-dad told me his processor is a Pentium (4?) Dual core. And he uses the 5750 and plays C2 on Extreme graphics with a very good looking framerate...

How does his CPU compare to my Athlon 250?

Whatever the default is set to. 1024x768 or something very close to that. He has an HD monitor thats plugged into his 5750 through HDMI. But he doesn't seem concerned about playing in HD.

BTW, I appreciate your help. :)

I have a 5770 and can run the game at extreme settings at 1600x900 at about 40 FPS, although I do have a better processor. The 5770 is still a great card, especially at the prices it can be found at now. The guy above definitely does not know what he is talking about.

I know exactly what I am talking about. I said its a good card but it wont handle new games as well. Go look up its specs compared to newer cards, its getting old fast. If thats the OP's price range then its a great card, but I would highly suggest going a little higher, or else he will just want to upgrade again soon. And ya you run 40 FPS average so that means when the game gets intense I bet you drop to 15 or 20 FPS.

Although running a core two, Op just basically needs a new computer.

I have one and it handles everything I've thrown at it. And I haven't seen any slowdown to 15 or 20 FPS. It runs Crysis 2 perfectly well, in addition to everything else I've played recently. The card is not getting old yet. in its price range, it is unbeatable. The only thing I expect to kill it is maybe the DX11 patch depending on what they include or Battlefield 3. If youre looking at a card in this range you cant be expecting to ma everything out, no matter how new it is.

Where the hell did you get that from lol, quit making stuff up. AMD gives you way way more bang for your buck in processors than intel does. I am not saying intel is bad you just get a way better deal with AMD. ATI, and Nvidia both have their good and bad points I wouldn't say one beats the other, just which ever one you prefer. I like ati cards but that doesnt mean nvidia svcks. If you ever look at gaming spec boards they each tend to have strong and weak points in a range of games. Nvidia runs one game faster, ATI runs the next game better and so on.
Fanboys need to get over themselves and realize if ATI went away Nvidia cards would really svck cause they would have no one to push them to be better.

Your full of crap too. If your averaging 40 fps, I know for sure your getting laggy and slowing down when the game gets really intense. That happens to everyone, thats why its good to be around 100 fps average so when stuff gets deep and heavy you dont get laggy.

U sir are illinformed pube........even if AMD went bankrupt, Nvidia would still have to release products. Their business depends on selling their customers new graphics card every 2 years.

AMD has no future vision. They fired their CEO because of that.

if AMD went bankrupt then Nvidia and Intel would not have any competitors. they can just put a price tag of a gazillion dollars on a product and we consumers would have no choice but to stump up a gazillion dollars for stuff. we need amd more than you think. competition helps to advance tech too

I have a 5750 and can play Crysis 2 with no problem. I can tell you that at 1440x900 on Very High settings I have absolutely no problems with my framerate, averaging something around 50-45 FPS. During multiplayer, I sometimes bump it down to High if the server is completely full, but it never drops below 35 either way for me.

My CPU is a Phenom II X4 940 black, BTW.

At the same time, if you are going to buy a new GPU, I'd recommend something newer. There's nothing wrong with the 5770 or 5750s, but it can't hurt to grab something a little more shiny and up-to-date.

EDIT: Wow some of the posts in this thread are ill-informed and vile. Is it so hard to say "I prefer this GPU instead and you should consider it" instead of "OMG AMD SUX UR A RETARD LOL"?

Lowest settings at 800x600 gives you 10-15 fps? Wow, that's exactly like my on-board HD 3300. Your 9500 GT should handle High settings 1280x1024 at 50+ fps. Go for at least a GTX 460 or HD 5830. Even tho they can't do 60 fps at Extreme, Very High still looks and plays great! Just wish Crytek would add a view distance slider and AA options.

Wow I wish I could do 50 fps even on lowest settings. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Anything that I should check to see if there is something wrong with my GPU? I would love to have a smooth framerate.

What about the 5850? That's in my price range (under $150) - http://bit.ly/gsXWfZ

Its specs look much better than the 5770 and its not too much more expensive.

I just saw something that made me chuckle, My card (9500GT) has 32 Stream Processors and the 5850 has 1440 Stream Processors.... Lol... Is this maybe the reason my card is svckish for what I need it to do?

It depends your resolution . if you are pretending to play with max settings at 1440x900 you will do fine with the 5770. I doubt It will run smoothly with resolutions at 1600x900 and up. 5770 is between the old HD 4850 and 4870 .

I would go for at least the 6850 or GTX 460 for better tessellation with DirectX 11 ( Hey , Crysis 2 will get it soon or later! ) . Try to save a little money and get these little beasts . The negative point , you would wish to upgrade your CPU as well because is going to limit any new powerful GPU. =/

The 5770 is identical to the 4870 with the addition of DX11 capabilities. I have a 4870x2 which is basically 2 4870's in CFX or two 5770's in CFX.

I play the game at 1920 by 1200 extreme and get about 40fps. With CFX disabled, while running only 1 gpu, I'll get about 20fps at the same settings. That is about what you'll be getting. It's a good card, but it won't max the game. Get something like a GTX 560Ti.

I have the 5770 and the game plays silky smooth on Very High at 1680x1050. It handles this game much better than the original Crysis.
