Is the Radeon HD 5750 or 5770 A Good GPU For Crysis 2?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:30 am

My step-dad has the 5750 and says he can play at max graphics settings. I'm not sure what the specs are on his PC but full graphics sounds good to me as I am currently playing it on lowest settings at 800x600 Res and I only get like 10-15 fps. It svcks. My current machine specs are AMD Athlon II x2 250, 5 gigs DDR3 RAM, Galaxy GeForce 9500 GT with 1GB GDDR1 (something like that), and a 1TB Baracuda 7200RPM HDD.

If I replaced my 9500 GT with either a 5750 or 5770 do you think I could go Extreme graphics at a good framerate?

Thanks for any input/advise.

Depends on your resolution really. If it's a low res, (around 1360x768 or so) it should be adequate. Around 1600x900 might be pushing it, not really sure.

No. The 5770 was a great card for its time, and if your not an avid gamer I would say its still a great card for casual gaming and playing hd videos and stuff, but alas it is an old card and won't keep up real well with new games. If your going ati cards and want a medium range priced card go with a 5870 its still pretty beast for 200 bucks. You have to be careful and learn your ati cards because higher number on them doesnt mean "better" the 5870 is better than the 6870 and so on. So if your going ati read up on them.

Well my GTX260 runs max on 1440x900, it's about the same performance as a 5770 so that should handle it

I have a 5770 and can run the game at extreme settings at 1600x900 at about 40 FPS, although I do have a better processor. The 5770 is still a great card, especially at the prices it can be found at now. The guy above definitely does not know what he is talking about.

My girlfriend uses the 5770, with an I5 CPU.
It runs the game on Very high at about 40 FPS on 1920x1080. It does a good job.
OP, please note though, that your CPU will bottleneck your GPU, thus - you will not fully utilise the power of the 5770, as casual as it may be - your CPU is a little out-of-date. Take this under consideration before making any changes to your rig. You'd better balance your hardware before you buy any new parts.

Too many Nvidia fanboys in this thread, the 5770 runs it fine, at stock speeds it might have a slowdown (but still playable) @ 1920x1080 but a small overclock via the control panel will push it up to a good framerate.

I wouldn't go less than a 6850/GTX 460 for gaming personally, they're cheap as chips these days.

At the resolution you are running, you are asking more from the cpu than the gpu.

I play on 1920*1080, extreme settings with an ATI radeon HD 5770. So yes it works perfectly.

OC'd 5770 (Vapor-X Version) running on Extreme with 1920x1080. No problems. As soon as I can going to get another one and CrossFire. Something to consider me thinks.

I know exactly what I am talking about. I said its a good card but it wont handle new games as well. Go look up its specs compared to newer cards, its getting old fast. If thats the OP's price range then its a great card, but I would highly suggest going a little higher, or else he will just want to upgrade again soon. And ya you run 40 FPS average so that means when the game gets intense I bet you drop to 15 or 20 FPS.

Although running a core two, Op just basically needs a new computer.

1, dont bother with a 5 series if youre going amd, get a 6 series, the performance jump is great imo. if you have th money well.. i love my nvidia 580's, but pretty much any nvidia 5 series would be great.

Thank you all for your input :). And yes I am aware that my Athlon II X2 isn't ideal for gaming. I just bought this computer expecting to be making some upgrades so I am ready to put the money into it to get at least a quad core CPU. I think that from all the input above that I will be going with the 5770. I'm not too concerned about super high res and framerate, I just want to play the games I have at atleast medium graphics with an acceptable framerate.

Thank you all again, I did't expect to get this many replies.

And by the way, this is my first "gaming computer". I've been an XBox gamer for the longest. I got tired of paying $50 a year for Live service.

AMD Athlon II X2 255 @ 3.65 Ghz
Patriot X 4 Gb 1333Mhz
AMD Radeon 4870 GDDR5 1GB Toxic

This is my setup, and it runs smoothly on my 55 cm screen with all at maximum. My recomendation is to get 6790 . That will be my next card when i tend to upgrade, and its price here in my country varies around 115-130 €,and i can get a used one for 85 € with varranty

I'm glad to hear this. Maybe I wont have to buy a new CPU as soon as I thought.

As proof, go to youtube and search for vidoes of people with an Athlon II 250 and an 5770 or 5750...good framerate even with fraps!

Should that not be the case for you, then you can just OC the cpu a bit to up the performance.

Both are GOOD ENOUGH. But seriously, get a 6xxx card. Personally, I wouldn't get NVIDIA, but if you want to stay with NVIDIA, go for the 5xx series. I would suggest the 6850 or 6870 card, or the NVIDIA 560 Ti. If you want to go big, get a 6970 (which I own and it is FREAKIN' AWESOME!!) or a 570/580. If you want to go insane.....get the 6990 or 590 but make sure your system can handle these cards and that you have the money for them.
