The Real Starship Enterprise, with Functional Warp Drive!

No other way around of breaking the speed of light limit. But in my understanding that "moves the space" bit is incorrect, rather it compresses space in front of the ship, the ship moves trough the compressed space, and ends up so far it is as if it had traveled faster than light.

Reminds of the "Large Hadron Collider creates a miniature black hole that'll destroy the entire planet if it's turned on" thing some years ago :lmao: The engine will blow up, it no longer bends space, and it thus returns to normal. If the universe was unstable enough for man-made equipment to damage it, it wouldn't have lasted this long :hehe:

Considering how little we ultimately know about the universe, the speed of light may well not be the speed limit of the universe.

As for whether or not this is feasible, to me it's no more credible or likely than anything I might read in a sci-fi novel. They can theorise all they want, but at the end of the day we're insufficiently advanced to make it off our own planet in any significant way. What we know about the universe is pretty damn insignificant.

Well, the Hadron Collider was just smashing particles together. This engine would be manipulating the fabric of the time-space continuum. The potential for something going wrong is rather higher than the likelihood of a black hole being created by the collider.
