Maybe one day man will see it, maybe even within the next 100 years (or sooner) but I'll bet we won't be seeing it in my lifetime.

Terrible. How is artificial gravity made? The inertia when the engines come on and they are pasted against the walls cause the ship is laid out like a boat? No radiators for heat dispersal

If a ship is going to look like anything it'll be the one out of Avatar.

With warp-drive, the ship isnt moving. There is NO inertia for the passengers, that's the beauty of it all. It would feel the same as being on the ISS. Same applies for heat buildup. There is none. For all intents and purposes, the ship is staying still.

It's hard to wrap ones head around. Granted you'd still need artificial gravity to prevent bone and health problems (best way is centrifugal force).

Of course there heat, you have to power these warp drives right? That's means heat, a lot of heat given the amount of electricity, that needs radiating into space.

Also it had no propulsion system then of any kind? Seems like a flaw.

It needs engine to move forward through field and something about radiating everything infront of bubble when done

If this happens, I will be leaving on said ship. They might need engineers who specialize in circuts. Lucky me.

Meh. I prefer Projectrho/Atomic rockets personally.

I was under the impression no impulse or propulsion was needed because the warp field was expanding in the back and contracting in the front. I may need to re-read some articles :/

And then there's the part where some scientists have theorized that the Alcubierre (sp?) drive would cause a massive blast of radiation that would mangle whatever was in front of the ship when it arrives.

4 light years in two weeks? Still too slow to explore the galaxy, but it would expand humanity's reach quite a lot. But still, the warp drive in my understanding would consume an enormous amount of energy, where does that come from?

Oh, and i hope they bend space the right way, so that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmgP0eZYlSU situation doesn't happen

Why can't they go simplier and whip up a Stargate or something that makes Einstein Rosen Bridges.

"The current theory involves bending space in a way that doesn't actually move the ship so much as all of time and space around it. "

Is it just me, or does this sound completely ludicrous?

I really don't see how it's easier to move the universe rather than one ship. Wouldn't this be kind of like sailing from England to America on a ship that remains stationary while moving the planet around it?

And on another, more wrooying note...

If something goes wrong with the engine, which explodes: The ship, or the rest of the universe that the engine's manipulating?
