Just got back from a trip to Zion National Park, the setting of Honest Hearts. A couple of observations:
The real park canyon seems to be smaller and more linear than Honest Hearts. Really just one straight stream and canyon, that terminates in the Narrows.
I think they missed a chance by making the tunnel on the east side just a dead end. The real thing is over a mile long, dark with a couple of viewing/air openings,
and comes into the valley through six big switchbacks on the road. Seems the approach to it could have been like going up the road to Black Mountain, ending in a
huge dangerous tunnel full of who-knows-what.
Or the tunnel could have been the entry point and home camp for the White Legs, leading to a tough fight up the switchbacks if you choose to fight them.
I realize it's all moot now, but any comments/ideas on this?
