The Realms of Daedra: Oblivion exploration RP interest check

Howdy folks. Had some ideas kind of knocking around in my head, although not yet anything concrete, but I thought I'd better check if anyone was potentially interested before devoting the time to hashing the thing out. So here it is as it stands:

-----

The year is 3E 390, and with the mananauts long gone, the sunbirds dead and dying, the battlespires besieged, and the lunar colonies abandoned, Oblivion Explorers are the intrepid frontiersmen of the day. Witches, conjurers, mystics and sorcerers who understand the workings of the Void and the liminal barriers between worlds better than any university master, the Explorers are no quill-and-ink mages. Each is a seasoned veteran of innumerable pacts and sorties, individuals who pair an intuitive sense for the extra-Mundial with practice, bold submersion, and a sense of adventure. Be it for fame, wealth, or scholarship, these individuals dive into the waters of Oblivion and emerge, even survive.

Ulwaen "the Daedroth" is one such audacious Explorer, an elf whose crawled over his first liminal bridge and now finds a second home in Oblivion. For decades he has leapt back and forth across the divide, and bears the scars of every trip. Sometimes alone, and sometimes in company, in 3E 390, he finds he has need of the latter. Individuals he would once have called rivals, competitors and challengers, he now calls for help - with his new team of Explorers he hopes to snatch the favourite treasures of a Daedra Prince, especially one black soul.

Some of you are drawn by the promise of adventure, some by the promise of reward. Some are drawn to the illustrious name of Ulwaen the Daedroth, and some are drawn for reasons your own. But if you were drawn here at all, I'll see you in hell.

-----

So basically, what we (will hopefully) have here is an action-packed adventure/heist RP that will see our intrepid Explorers cross the boundaries of numerous Oblivion Realms, meeting all manner of Daedra and who knows what else and generally taking a walk on the wrong side of the Dragonfires. It's not going to be all hack-and-slash - many encounters will (hopefully) be resolved in more interesting ways, and I hope there will be a good deal of character exploration and development. The premise aims to offer the opportunity to play a lot of different types of character, even if they are probably all conjurers and adventurers - many types of people might learn to journey into Oblivion, through desire or necessity, so I hope there is scope there.

If you are interested, let me know here, maybe with your character ideas or any suggestions you may have as regards story, destinations, title (The Realms of Daedra is a dreadful placeholder) etc. and if we get enough people we can get started!

One more thing. I have never GMed an RP on these forums (never really done one on any forums), although I have once or twice run shortlived DnD campaigns. I had hoped to maybe co-GM one as a junior party first, but the opportunity never really seemed to arise. So, if you are a talented, congenial, experienced and handsome GM, especially if I know and love you already (but even if not), drop me a line if you want to help out.

EDIT: And one more thing, which I forgot. I do want to take a bit of walk on the wild side here if possible. I'm talking weird Tamriel - this premise barely works as vanilla high fantasy, we really need mananauts and voidships and battlespires and whatnot. What we do not need is canonicity debates, so if you don't believe in mothships close your eyes when one flies past.

Sounds a lot like my "Planeswalkers" RP. Hope you see it to the end, mine died just when we were about to step into the first oblivion-gate. I don't know where it went wrong, was it the slow pace or my awful writing, but it's there for you to anolyse if you want to :D

Planning is key though. You need to plan every realm-encounter in detail, and then be prepared to throw those idea out of the window if the situation changes. That's the key to GM'ing a story-based RP. :)

Good luck! I'd join if I had more time at my hands, that's for sure!

Thanks for the luck, I will probably need it!

So far I only have a vague sense of how exactly the various encounters will go down, since I didn't really want to invest the time and effort into them if no one is interested in playing. Once some potential test subjects RPers emerge, I'll start planning properly. I didn't realise there had been a similar RP, I will have to go take a look. Shame it didn't take off though, I guess it's just the way of RPs unfortunately.

Keep this small-scale, that's one advice I can give you. The more RP'ers, the slower it will be and the more you'll need to take into account. Even as "few" as 5 players might be too much.

But yeah, the way of RP's is that they often die. I've -never- seen an RP go from the start to the planned end. Ever. :D

What a GREAT idea :D if you get this RP started why not adventure in on Untold Journey RP, which is different but yet similar as we are going to open a gate in Skyrim. Would be kinda fun crossing the threads once in a while since no-one as ever to my knowledge done such a thing... It's easy enough to do too with the time frame issue as our characters are Immortal and yes have lived through some of the gate openings and crossed the void.. {Flash backs } are fun and easy to write... Good Luck from Angel  Phenix...
