I have heard of something called the red year. does this have something to do with the love letter of vivic, the last war, or what? what does everyone know about it? for I fear it.

The forum doesn't know yet what the Red Year is, or how official it is for Bethesda. MK has mentioned it, usually in connection with the Loveletter. It seems to be related to Landfall. This apocalyptic event seems to take place sometime in the Fourth Era, but we don't know if it's tomorrow or centuries from now.

If Landfall is a moon hitting Vvardenfell, it would probably destroy almost all life on Vvardenfell and much of the province of Morrowind; including tsunamis and, maybe, a nuclear winter for Tamriel. The Loveletter seems to tell of a catastrophe that leaves miners as among the few survivors. Later generations are able to make a pilgrimage to aboveground at certain times of the year, when the winds lessen. But most of this is speculation at this point.

Sounds post-apocalyptic. Is Beth angling for a Fallout tie-in?

As far as I know, MK was mentioning Landfall before Fallout 3 was too far along. I don't think the ES devs would be interested in tying into the Fallout mythos, but that's just my opinion.

No, it's the "Ministry of Truth" above Vivec that's gonna do the destruction.

ugh, I sure hope that bethsof doesnt go this post-apocalyptic route.

Although if I remember correctly, the loveletter does make metion of the fact that landfall is preventable somehow! Let's hope so!

It is preventable by entering a state of godhood, where, basically and easily put, reality is just your own dreams (CHIM). Wouldn't make for a very interesting game, really.
