Indeed. They're not releasing early, they're announcing it late.
Yeah the latest podcast has Joel Burgess (lead level designer) basically saying he started in Oct. 08 (he's been doing absolutely Nothing since Fo3 ended - lol!)
So its a 3 year cycle on this game (like 3.5-4 years for the code team) - long enough for pros like Bethesda.

that is only for level design. Initial Design must have started before Oblivion was released.
Level design can't start properly before there is assets where those levels are build, not mentioning planning out all locations and such which is designers job to do...
Sooo, Brink, Skyrim, Starwars: the old republic, mass effect 3, dragon age 2, the witcher 2, heroes 6, starcraft 2: Heart of the swarm, possibly diablo 3 AND portal 2 will be coming 2011.... I think i just had a nerdgasm
*Trying to think of a date that is near the release date, only to realize that I do not remember any of my friend's or family's birthdays, it might be near my half-brother's birthday*
to bad they never stick to their release dates it will probably get pushed back to feb of 2012
They have set it in stone already. They are releasing the game on that date for sure.
So the release date is 11/11/11 and we're 11 months away from that, it was 11:11 am when I heard about the announcement... so that means... *DUN DUN DUN*
Bethesda rarely gives such specific release dates. Sometimes they'll say "oh we'll release it in this month of this year, maybe." Then they have to push it back, after explaining that it is NOT a solid release date, and they don't give specific release dates unless they KNOW they can do it. So, it may get pushed back, but hopefully and probably not, knowing Bethesda.
