The Respectables

"Well, I don't know about you, but I personaly intend to work my way into this Hlaalu task-force thing. And I've already got the means for it..." It only now occured to Richard that he didn't really have a place for Soryna in his plan. Oh well, I'm sure she'll appreciate my genius. With a mental shrug, he unfurled the letter. "This is a contract for one Richard Hoville to work in the Caldera Ebony Mine, signed by a Kinsman of House Hlaalu no less. When you do jobs for a variety of different people, you can request a variety of different favors from them in return. With this baby, everything's going to be much more simple than it might be for other teams... Especially considering at least one of the suspects sounds familiar to me, so it shouldn't be that hard to convince him to turn in some information under the guise of going back into old business."

"And aside from taking a stroll what should I do? I'm not all that interested in going underground." Soryna could think of a few things, the easiest was simply standing there to be a distraction. She sighed and rose her hands above her head stretching. A rather bored look came over and remained on her face at her disinterest in the mine. At first she thought it may be interesting but the thought of it interested her very little. Actually she hadn't eatened anything all day and the feeling was getting the better of her. Perhaps she could even get something to eat out of Richard afterward. Whatever, it would be his choice.

"I dunno, think something up... Sneak in and search the miners' quarters, try to get some info out of the officials, something. I guess I could try to pass you up as a sister of my friend or some such. Y'know, so you could get around and speak with people freely without getting inquiring looks." Richard suggested. Gah... Why isn't it ever okay with people to do nothing? They always get the weirdest ideas I'm going to backstab them or do something wrong then... So what if it's the case half the time. I guess it could be useful this time, aditional proof can't hurt... Unless it contradicts other proof, in which case no one needs to see it anyway. He wiped some sweat from his brow. Damn, I wish I could have a mazte right now... Feeling a bit dizzy.

Vel had entered back into the Earthly delights and headed to the room they had purchased. Entering he unhooked his belt and placed it on the end of the bed, then slipped the belt of daggers off hanging them from the bednob. He was fianlly tired, nothing to do that night but wait for mourning and the ywould be on their way to Dagon Fel. He slumped backwards onto the bed and gazed at the ceiling. You'd think he would have given us a tougher task! He thought then took in a deep breath and waited for sleep to take its toll.

"Yea...sister...why not. Let's just get this over with as fast as we can." Soryna folded her arms and took a few steps forward expecting Richard to eventually lead the way. Who knew what she was walking into. It would be better if Richard got hit first if that were to happen. What a dreadful place Vvardenfell was. If it wasn't for the ebony no one but the primitive ashlanders would be anywhere on this cursed island. With how it sometimes rumbled she wondered if the whole place would sink. Maybe it would be better, this place drove people mad, for riches, for power, maybe she'd be next.

Mervs, Coordinator

"Oh, yes, of course," Mervs said, having forgotten that he was speaking with an outlander, "the Helothre manor is along the river, on the north side. Outside is a rather large Hlaala banner, should be easy enough to spot."

Mervs remembered one more thing to add, "You'll need an enchanted or silver weapon to fight any spirit that might be in the house, though, again, I doubt her fear is credible." Mervs dug into his pocket for a bag of gold, and once he found one of reasonable size, he tossed it to the Nord. "There's about sixty gold pieces, should be plenty to get yourself a silver blade if you need it. The Fighter's Guild will sell one to you, just mention I sent you."

Beniamus pushed the door to Desele's open and after taking a quick glance around the tavern, he found himself a spot at an open table near the back of the establishment. A couple minutes passed before the Khajiit tending the counter found her way to his table.

"What can we get for yourself?"

"Just a glass of Shein and whatever you've got stewing in the back."

"We will be right back with your request."

Watching her go, Beniamus settled back in his chair, laying his quiver and bow on the edge of the table. He was looking forward to eating and then getting some rest. They still hadn't progressed much into the mission before being given another just to get on with the original. Business is business. Nothing was ever free, but that was alright as long as what you got was more than what you spent.

The Khajiit returned with his food, and after dropping a handful of coins and nodding his thanks, he turned to the task of eating his food. He wasn't entirely sure what was in the stew, likely nix-hound and some other spices, but it satisfied the whole in his stomach. After downing the rest of it and washing it down with the comberry wine, he made his way up from the table and to his room. Quietly opening the door so as not to wake his Dunmer companion, Beniamus found a suitable rug to tuck under his head and quickly found himself asleep.

"Right then." Richard nodded, shivered slightly -although not from the cold, his addiction for mazte was kicking in- and headed down the hill. In his head he repeated every step of his plan, making sure he hadn't forgotten anything. Most likely the entire thing'll have to wait for tommorrow... He bit his lip, taking into consideration the late hour - most likely, work in the mines had ceased by now. Damn, did they really need to set the meeting so late? If they're inviting a genius like me they should take into consideration the fact that when I get my brain working, I don't want to stop until it's all finished. Rolling his eyes, the Breton hastened his step, and quickly ended up next to the best looking building around, which he asumed was the place where all the officials were.

Giving the door strong, prolonged knock, Richard took a step back and waited for someone to open. Sure enough, they were soon flung open by an Imperial, one that looked rather sleepy and pissed. "Yeah, whatcha wan-" He was cut off, however, when Richard held up the letter and began:

"Richard Hoville, reporting for work. This here is my contract, signed by one Dalam Delmnevan, Kinsman of tis-o-tee House, you know which one I mean, which can prove I'm not some agent, bandit or anyone besides a man looking for work."

The Imperial seemed to be taken aback a bit by this strange small man in stranger clothing; he silently took the letter. It was quite obvious he wasn't reading the entire thing - his gaze quickly passed through the lines, stopping occasionaly when something caught his interest. Soon, he was finished and lifted his eyes up, finally noticing Soryna as well. He pointed a finger at her, but before he could ask, Richard stuck his head in between the finger and Soryna.

"She's a sister of my friend's whom I was asked to take care of while the friend is busy with his personal business."

The Imperial rose an eyebrow, looked at the letter again, before nodding hesitantly. "Alright. I guess you're good to go... No work tonight, though, so feel free to go unpack at the bunkhouse over there." He pointed towards a smaller house behind Richard and Soryna.

"Great!" Richard exclaimed, only to have the doors slammed in front of him. Sticking out his tongue rather childishly, the Breton turned around, gesturing for Soryna to follow as he headed towards the bunkhouse. He shivered again, this time more noticeably. By Mara, I hope they have mazte there...

Soryna watched in amusemant as the Breton quick talked his way through the issue. The Imperial didn't seem to be fully awake and quickly accepted the story as long as it meant he would be left alone. (Really he still sticks his tongue out? Hmm maybe I do too sometimes but...oh there he goes.) She followed him and raised an eye brow as she saw him oddly shiver. It wasn't cold was it? He seemed more dressed than she was. What a damn weird guy. Maybe she'd have to sleep with an eye open and a hand on a weapon. In any case she hoped for an uneventful evening.

Opening the doors to the bunkhouse without bothering to knock, Richard proceeded inside, leaving it to Soryna to close the doors. The bounce to his step quickly disappeared as he looked around the room. It was full of hammocks where the free miners slept, with slaves being kept separately. Everyone seemed to be asleep, so Richard helped himself to an open bottle of mazte that stood on one of the chests around the room, finishing up half the bottle that was left in one gulp. Setting down the bottle, he shivered again, then smiled, placing several septims on the chest as well. Then, he tapped his gauntlet lightly (among other things useful to a Dwemer field researcher like himself, the gauntlet had a light enchantment) which made it emit a soft, slightly green light. With the help of this he quickly found himself and Soryna two hammocks that were relatively nearby each other.

"Help yourself to it." He whispered silently, before climbing into his and, without even taking his weapons or gauntlet off, falling asleep.

Soryna cringed on the inside as she closed the door and the light vanished for a moment before Richard's gadget seemed to glow slightly. It stank of dirt inside and she hated every bit of it. She was relieved to find a hammock, something she could sort of hide in though she felt way over dressed for sleeping. In any case she wouldn't even dare take her boots off. The rope hammocks were somewhat comfortable but not as much as Soryna prefered. She was happy it wasn't made of a sheet material or all the dirt from some smelly miner would pile in the center. Her eyes looked up into the empty darkness as they slowly adjusted unsure if she'd be able to fall asleep in such conditions. Her arms folded across her chest and her legs crossed defensivly hoping the night would just pass and go quick.
