The Return of Marcus.

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 5:31 pm

So glad Marcus is back, but isn't he like 150-something years old by the time of FONV? How come he didn't go from his Overlord state to a mindless Behemoth? Must be the difference between FEV-1 mutation and FEV-V87 mutation cycles... Guess he's the sheriff of Jacobstown, NV now.

Yep. Only the supermutants on the east coast can become behemoths. Marcus was part of the Master's army, so yeah.

Marcus is going to be an interesting character hopefully he has some quests and he's voiced again by Michael Dorn. Finding Jacobstown is going to be one of the many things that I'll have to do when I leave from Goodsprings.

Hmm, about DLC's... They're probably going to try and "fix" or "add" what we would like, so my vote is for Marcus to become a companion again if it suits the lore and design.
But if there is a good reason for him staying there then I can accept that.
Hopefully it isn't something cheesy like "Nah, I've already been on my adventures and I've retired".

Hopefully he can be the one to provide canon facts about fallout 2.

Well, now... As I recall, in general, Super Mutants are prone to senility AND having a certain amount of lowered intelligence. But as for the later, Marcus seems to be fine, like Fawkes, and as for the first, well... I guess we'll see. And, as others have mentioned, there's the FEV difference.

Nothing against "Grandma Lily Nightkin" but I'd totally support a DLC that expands Marcus as a companion... :)

Ah, the nostalgia is just pouring from the seams in this thread. etc etc.

I hope they don't make an entire DLC or crap just around one companion, that'd be a waste of money. Besides, Marcus is a 1st dip Mutie, he's an old mutant. Let him rest his joints for goodness sakes :bonk:

Michael Dorn as the voice of Marcus in NV has been confirmed.

Some West-coast mutants (like Marcus) didn't lose any intelligence. In fact, Lou (The Master's Lieutenant from FO1) became more intelligent after his FEV dip.

Wouldn't have to be centered around him, the story could take place on a completely different area, but as a bonus with the DLC you can now recruit Marcus in MW.

Prime normals.
But FEV has different effects on all people right?
So even if 10 prime normals survived the dip they would still be distinct from one another.
So maybe Lou was a special special case.

Anyway, I hope we get some Born Ghouls with Fallout New Vegas, even if Reservation isn't in.
Cause that might leave hope for Super Mutants to get their junk going again.

So basically Marcus can be the new Dogmeat of the series?

@Softnerd- I may be wrong, but as I've come to understand the series. There are two types of West Coast FEV Super Mutants, theres 1st batch and 2nd batch. The first batch would me the ones like Marcus, The Lou, and the more verbose SMs, where as the second series of SMs were more or less brain dead.

Nah, we probably won't see him in Fallout 4 or Fallout: New [town] so I wouldn't go as far as calling him the new Dogmeat.
But Marcus makes sense. Dogmeat, does not. (IMO ;) )

Btw, I noticed the @Softnerd, you know how to multiquote right?

Eh, I still think making Marcus a companion again would be an idea of bad fan service (IE making some new DLC or making him appear in Fallout: China or some other ridiculous name)

Maybe, but it depends on what his story is and if there is a good reason for him not being able to leave Jacobstown.
If there is a chance at him being able to leave the place and join the Courier then nothing should be able to stop him.
But Dogmeat is different.
Dogmeat died, waaay back. He, is a fanservice, easily done by creating a dog and slapping on the name Dogmeat on him.
No explanation required apparently. Ghost dog wins over logic and grim reaper I guess. :P

XD To true. I just don't wanna see Marcus become 'fan service > real character' :cryvaultboy:

Of course not.
If it makes sense from a design perspective then let it be so, if not then don't break that just cause some fans can't sleep at night because of it.
But I seriously hope we get some permanent followers with the DLC's.

Vault 87 mutants become less intellegant with age, but also become bigger and stronger. I beleive some of the masters army was very intellegant, but only a few specimens becuase they were not exposed to much radiation. Nightkin were extremely smart super mutants...

Marcus just being a NPC seems insane. They have to have a DLC ulterior motive here.

Otherwise, I might have to kill him out of some bizarre psychologically disturbed obsession.

If I can't have him, no one can. I would have to burn Jacobstown down to the ground. I don't want to but I would pretty much have to.

Good luck tackling those angry Super Mutants....
Marcus can't be a sheriff if he is weak and pathetic... He's strong...
Good luck, i wish you to be not whacked to death by Lily Bowen too...

I'll have a crapload of grenade machine gun ammo and mini nukes to deal with them by the time I waltz into town.

I may be insane but I am not reckless. ;)

Maybe Obsidian will do with Marcus what Bethesda did with Harold and kill him off somehow. That would be the best way to keep him from becoming another Dogmeat. As much as I love Marcus that really would be a good way to end his story.

Sorry what?
Harold dying is canon?
Or do you meant that the spirit of the character was killed off by rooting him to the ground?

Oh that's right. I forgot you can complete that quest without actually killing him. My bad then.
