The return of the Dwemer was hinted at in Morrowind.
One Dwemer survived, Yagrum Bagarn althought infected with corprus disease. As a positive side effect, it make him immortal and might have been fully cured eventually because the Nerevarine was cured of said disease. The person trying to cure him, Divayth Fyr was also experimenting with cloning himself (although a female version). In scientific terms, to make a female clone from a male original you just have to delete the Y chromosome and replace it with an X chromosome (double the existing X is fine). I'm sure that mixing with other races would be necessary to prevent the awful effects of inbreeding.

- "No. Impossible. His "Wife/Daughters" were made in his likeness and was not an easy task. I assume it was painstaking enough that he would never attempt it again. In the case of the Dwemer, it is highly unlikely that this is a power within his grasp. Even attempting this would end in failure."--VXSS (on Fyr cloning the Dwemer)
