The Return of the Nirnroot

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:30 am

I noticed a plant that looked very similar to the Nirnroot in the trailer. What do you think? Is it the fabled plant?

And it's glowing, so that might be a good sign, depending on your point of view.

To avoid nasty surprises I'm going to start as a bald character.

UESP says there are 306, I got about 130, when you think about it, that's a lot of adventuring when the industry thinks it is ok to release full price games that last eight hours.

Yeah, it better be more useful this time round. I really couldn't have cared less about them in OB.

I collected all that was needed to complete Seeking Your Roots (100) + a lot more to get the potions! :D

And yes, that plant in the trailer seems to be a Nirnroot, and is also stated by IGN that it is. :)

It's not the worth of the plant itself, it's the amount of game implied for weirdos like me who enjoy exploring the 'back roads' for hours, and love it when you eventually find something like a nirnroot, which is a reward, no matter how small, for dedicated exploration.

My favourite thing to find when exploring was towns. Shame they were all crap though.

A town with a twelve buildings instead of two houses and an inn,and a nirnroot. Looks like everyone wins this time.

I don't know, it looks more like a mandrake root to me, but I can't remember if any of them grew in the water.

Nimrot is usually higher and straighter, look more like a tobacco plant to me. however it can also be a new plant.

There's definitely more, considering that you need at least ten just to make the most basic version of the potion you get for that quest...

Really, though, it seems to me that collecting them all really isn't that rewarding in Oblivion, unless you just do it for the sake of completion.

In the screenshot, though, it does look like it may be a Nirnroot, if it weren't near water, I might have thought it was something else, but the fact that there happens to be a plant that resembles Nirnroot right next to a body of water seems too much of a coincedence for it to not be a Nirnroot. And if it is indeed a Nirnroot, than I only hope that in Skyrim, if there's going to be a quest surrounding them, the rewards are better than for Seeking Your Roots. While that kind of quest tends to be annoying to begin with, I at least want a better reward for going around the world to collect those plants than a potion I'll probably never use.

I always thought it was funny that some alchemists claimed never to have seen Nirnroot before, and that they were extremely rare, when all you had to do was take a stroll by a pond to see one. :P A couple were inside the city walls as well!
