the roman empire did alot of good for society
may i ask why?
creating the first Highways and major trading routes maybe?
or the fact they were one of the only societies ever that had laws protecting your slaves from harm (actually, the slaves in the Roman empire had more rights than the average citizen, to the point many people freely sold themselves into slavery).. most other nations throughout History just didn't give a **** about the slave population (including the major European powers and Colonies back in the 1500s)..
seriously, alot of great things in human history were inspired by the Romans, and our lives would probably be much worse today if it was not for them... Empire =/= Evil, which alot of people ignorant to history seem to think
Sure, the Roman Empire had its dark days (it really became violent and dangerous at certain points), but for the majority of its existence it served to be beneficial to its Citizens and neighbors
I am a huge fan of most ancient civilizations and cultures, well modern cultures too.
But yeah, I can dig the Romans, you gotta respect all the stuff they made that stands to this day, they're not my favourite (my favourite is probably the Vikings or the Aztecs), but they're interesting and fun to read about and you gotta respect any civilization that made such advancements and made things that stand to this day or inventions that are still relevant or influenced cultures and languages, and Rome did all those things.
As for height from what info I have been able to find it seems like they were a little bit shorter, the male roman would be 165-170cm (average) tall, which isn't super short, but it's a slight difference, we're not talking about a nation of midgets or anything like that. I can't remember where I came across this info it's quite a while back, so take with a grain of salt and all that.
Rome layed the foundation for the modern Western world. They created roads, plumbing, aqueducts, baths with controllable hot and cold water, and sewers. They also had the first professional army, the Marian Reforms changed the way most ancient armies were organized. Under the Marian Reforms soldiers enjoyed such benefits as having their own land after service.
Vikings and Aztecs are some of my favorites too, as well as the Mayans.
Well yeah I like the Mayans and the Incas too, but Aztecs are just more interesting to me for no reason.
