The Royal Wedding

Why the emphasis on GERMAN?

Do Germany news stations have a good reputation to not report on something that no one cares about. Or that the thing is in England and Germany should worry about its own news?

Well, it's probably the fact that it's 6 out of 30 stations that you get with the normal cable service here. Emphasis on German because, well, why should Germany care about a wedding of two people without any say in anything at all, and why should six channels divide the viewers? I mean, alright, I'd accept one of each of the big channel networks, but right now it's two of each. This is just insane! ^_^

I turn on CNN.. wedding. FOX News.. wedding. I go to CNN.com.. wedding. FoxNews.com.. wedding.

Sadly this is getting excessive coverage everywhere. One of the first things I saw post game last night after Canucks vs. Predators NHL game was some CBC anolyst talking to someone who worried if the prince would ditch her because of whatever shoes she might wear to the wedding. I'm like shoot me now. Thank [insert deity here] this is over with very shortly.

Really? XD

I still wonder how half these people get jobs on network television.

Well I'm watching it!
Nice to have a happy event instead of having to read about what our lovely government is up to.
Can understand if people aren't interested in it though, particularly non-UK people, but no reason for all the hate.

I am thoroughly enjoying it. It's been great seeing london and people celebrating.
I miss the horse-drawn carriages though, like they had at Diana's wedding.
Edit: nevermind, they had the coach at the end. Awesome!

Diana's wedding was before my time but I did wonder for a fleeting moment earlier if the Queen would arrive in a carriage instead of a car.. but nice to see the horses now!

That was an absolutely wonderful ceremony, so very, very much worth going to bed early to make sure I could catch all of it. ^_^ Just as beautiful as I was expecting. The little smile Catherine had during their vows when William said "wife" really struck me in particular. :)

Of course Beckham is not going to put the top hat on, his hair looks too cool.

So , Rowan Atkinson was invited. It would have been funny if they showed him, and he was nodding off.

Uh, royalties. We live in the 21st century, the only positive thing about this was that royal blood mixes with common blood so to say, meaning they realize they are a sinking ship and need to be more open to stay in power. The worst thing however is that so much money is spent on them, money that could be used to build renewable energy sources, so I didn't watch it.

All those state visits and diplomacy. Who needs it huh?

Support for the monarchy is the same as it has been for a while. They aren't in any way in a sinking ship.

From what I heard our (swedish) royal wedding got quite a lot of coverage as well in Germany.

I watched it. It was truly fascinating. I'm learning about the rituals of political events at the moment in one of my papers so it was a really good example of that. It was really quite fascinating. I didn't watch it out of interest for the Royal Family, I think they've lost what relevance they once had, though being from New Zealand I could claim to be being patriotic or something.
Plus I wanted to see if Catherine failed in her choice of dress.
Plus plus religious ceremonies fascinate me for reasons I won't get into as they break forum rules.

I ended up watching 3 hours of it. Loved watching all those horses misbehave but man, I felt sorry for the poor things.

I'd honestly rather an ACTUAL diplomat do those things as opposed to a powerless figurehead.

In regards tp the actual wedding, it's annoying that I live in America, and for the past two weeks, I keep hearing 'ooh, I wonder what kind of dress she'll wear' and meaningless crap. Let them hurry up and get married, so I can get on with my life.

My sister and grandma are watching it from the beginning, but, like most people, I was in bed at 2:00 AM my time.

I am sure the actual negations are. You need someone 'important' (with a title) though to show you are committed and add some pomp and ceremony. Quite a lot of countries have some ceremonial position for that sort of thing. Like the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_Germany.

Plus, the queen isn't powerless. She provides another check on the Prime minsters power.

The monarchy does have power.
I suggest most of you should do some research.
