The Sads

Post » Tue Oct 18, 2011 8:06 am

Though it may sound small, the lack of any sort of "sadness" in Oblivion was flat out stupid.
It was never a big deal when someone died. It wasn't even a small deal. When someone died the first thing you did was search their body as NPC's went on with their business like nothing ever happened, or at the very most, they would talk to you with lowered eyebrows and say "HES DED. svckS DUDE. O WELL."

I'm not saying queue the titanic theme and try to make the player cry. I don't expect something like that from a game. I don't want something like that in a game. But at least make me go, "Oh [censored]! He's actually dead!" instead of "Awesome, new gear." And maybe even throw in some NPC's that are saddened or at least surprised by what just happened.

I know it's too late to add anything, but I'm hoping this issue has been addressed.
Thoughts?

At first I was confused on what a "sads" was, but now I got it.

But in one of the articles, a guy explains that he feels bad for killing some people now cause they actually seem alive

I have never REALLY felt bad about any character dying in any bethesda game... come to think of it there have been very few games that made me upset when a character died.. Does Scolar Visari count becase he was a bad guy... But when Rico killed him I yelled out.. "You F'ING idiot!"

But yeah on other bethesda games like FO3 and New Vegas you could kill a person in sneak and thne mutilate thiere corpse infront of thier friends... and they would be like "Hey! Careful!" hopefully this is better lol

^^ I take it that was Martin's voice actor? If not I'm completely lost. Anyways, though it may not have been intentional that is a perfect example of a death where I really just couldn't give a damn. He was an annoying character, and by the time he's dead you don't even know what's happened.

Mead. The cause of and solution to all life's problems.

Plus, while it's true that it kills brain cells, it's the weak dumb and slow brain cells that would get killed first. So up your average IQ with mead, today!

:whisper: I don't know how to tell you this but...they don't have to die. It's not scripted. Or at least in my install it's not. So...you let them die. It was your fault. you...heartless...monster :whistling:

Is that just because 50% of the population becomes hostile once you commit a crime? Or is it scripted that someone's husband will become super-pissed and act differently / say different stuff?

Remember when you had to defend Odiil farm? I nearly cried when one of the guy's sons died on me. Or on that Fighters Guild quest when one of the people might die fighting in the goblin cave. Made me sad.

Because I didn't get the full reward...

Remember at the end of the Fighter's Guild questline? When you infiltrate the Blackwood Company and go kill some goblins, only to find out later that it was a village full of innocents. Worse, a girl that you helped in a previous quest is there too. And her father (who you helped go out of jail) keeps wondering who could've done such a thing. I really felt horrible. And I felt "The Blackwood Compagny is going down!"

And I had a similar reaction with the Mages Guild Questline. When Mannimarco destroys the Bruma Mages Guild. I took the time to speak with either of them and to know them (even the hilariously incompetent leader). Now, most of them are dead and the remaining one is scarred for life (and there's even the implication that Mannimarco knew he survived, but let him live for extra lulz). My reaction was simply "You're going to die painfully, Mannimarco!"

I agree, the quest with the hist sap had an awesome twist. But that's a little off topic. Gotta say it again though, very cool quest, very, very, creepy atmosphere when you head back to the village.

Yeap my answer would be this, was quite shocked when the Bruma Mages Guild went boomz.

Although most NPCs piss me off during questlines; they go charging in lava when chasing after daedra; they charge after monsters you cant even see and get killed, blahblah.

And yes, ol' Martin. Made me do a little nice trip all round cyrodil ordering me here and there like a fly :P DIE MARTIN DIEEEE
