Do the Septims have a sword passed down to them?

Post » Tue Jan 18, 2011 6:46 pm

Does the Septim bloodline have a special sword passed down to each emperor? I noticed in the big O Uriel has a silver shortsword and Martin has a silver longsword...

But if they have the dragon crown and the armor... What about a sword? I mean is it just each Septim can choose their own expensive sword for personal use? I red in a book that silver is the nicest that you can find new in a blacksmith shop, and higher quality weapons are only found in dungeons and stuff, so maybe it makes sense that thats the best sword readily available.

Or maybe different emporers have different tastes, maybe some like swords, some like blunt weapons, some like magical staves, ETC.

EDIT: Also off topic but didn't one of the Emporers die in Akavir? How did they recover the amulet in that case?

Nah, they just have the amulet and crown. They want peace, not war.

Then why do they have ARMOR?

To protect themselfs from potentially dangerous prison escapees with a really big fluffy sword and console cheating?

Another prime example of this is the Warcraft series. Both King Llane and King Terenas wore cuirasses with their regal attire.

...ironically, both of them were stabbed to death. In fact, I think through their chests. That flimsy armor just never does its job in saving important characters. :shakehead:

Though You may hold out an olive branch, it would be naive to not also hold close to one's chest a protective barrier or shield. For surely, peaceful intentions are not always returned in kind.

It's the opposite of the Storm Trooper Effect. Whenever an important character is well protected, something very small can kill them.

They don't pass down a sword because the kingdom would collapse under the weight of such a dreadful cliche.

Then why do they have ARMOR?

The Imperials want peace, doesn't necessarily mean there is peace.

^^ Considering the fact that nearly every major weapon artifact in existence is a freaking sword, I'd say that the kingdom collapsed years ago. ^_^

Weapons, even ceremonial ones, get rusted and brittle. The one fantasy cliche I hate the most is the passing of a sword from one generation to another. It takes one battle (and usually even less than that) to destroy the sword comepletely from nothing but use. Sword is a very thin piece of metal. Use that to bang on another piece of metal. It doesn't survive for long.

You seem to be ignoring:

-Sanguine Rose
-Spear of Bitter Mercy
-Mehrune's Razor
-Mace of Molag Bal
-Daedric Scourge
-Sunder
-Keening
-Crosier of St. Llothis
-Staff of Magnus
-Volendrung
-Auriel's Bow

To name a few...

No I dont recall anything of a sword or weapon to be named to have been passed down from one Septim to another.

A lot of people I dont recognise here by the way... long time ago I was here now.

It's true. Ceremonial weapons rarely actually hold up very well in a battle, unless it's some massive battle axe passed from one warlord to another, but http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=918686 thread disproves the existence of such a weapon in Tamriel.

Ah yes... the sacred brown-pants of the great Tiber Septim. :hubbahubba:

Ugh! You should've seen the look on my face during my first MW playthrough, when Caius Cosades gave me his pants as a gift before leaving for Cyrodiil.

He has a silver shortsword in oblivion.

Edit: He knights the player with it in Arena. There's your septim ceremonial sword lore :celebrate:

I don't remember him wielding a sword in Arena. I thought he just stood their in all his 256 color bad-lip-sync glory. Don't remember actually being knighted by him (aside from his dialog) with a sword.

TES V should have the player embark on an epic quest to purge the world's denizens of the horrific permanently glued-on underwear, and restore fertility to the land!
