The "set" pieces seem underused....

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:42 pm

I was surprised that the casinos didn't have more quests built into and around them.

Here are these amazing, grand structures and then they each have just one quest overall.

I had envisioned each one being a crime family with intricate quest lines and instead barely entered the casinos. In contrast, I found 5-6 quests in McArran (spelling? the NCR air base fort in NV) alone....

It seems wasteful to have built such amazing set pieces that give the game its central theme and then not use them much more ...

Thoughts?

Agreed. The strip and casino families had such potential, but they didnt follow through with it.

I wish the strip wasn't so small and it would be nice if it was actually a strip and not 3 separate areas lol

It would be nice to if there was more of a story or more quest to each casino :sadvaultboy:

Unluckily, I can't be arsed to type it all right now. Short version, a plane/train to a completely untouched place. Imagine The Strip, minus the Post-War feel, so it's basically like time stopped just before the bombs.

@LKT- Yep, I've always adored the idea of a TRULY clean location akin to Tranquility Lane. With F:NV reusing F3 skins and textures with NV introducing new Pre-War skins, the possibilitys are limitless if you have the vision.

Ooooo you mean kinda like Tranquility Lane? Where it's all clean and spotless? Ya I would love that, Tranquility Lane was one of my favorite places in FO3.

It would have been nice to have a more intricate internal struggle on the strip.. I believe one reason they probably didn't is because of all the loading zones. Let's face it.. The engine starts bogging down after going in and out of lots of loading zones in a short period of time. Nothing ever has me more worried since Oblivion than a group of closely packed loading zones. Every time I go into a heavy loading zone area I step my game saving up a notch. And once I hit a few stutters in a row I just shut the game down and start it up again. I can't wait for an engine to come along that can allow for total open large area's in an open world sandbox game.

I had an idea that'd work somewhat with Fallout 3, since it'd rely on a remote Metro rail line (kinda way out like the one SW of Tenpenny Tower)

The main idea I feel works for DC and Mojave is the town would have a huge squad of turbines engines and etc that power the city, Maybe use the sound in the Securitron bunker with that loud 'train chugging' noise.

Spoiler
When I heard that chugging noise and saw the Securitrons with the Army faces I almost crapped my pants. I thought for sure they were going to slaughter me. :cryvaultboy:

I love it too, but the first time I heard it, I ran and hid because I thought they were going to rip through the walls or something. But other then that, I think it's one of the better sounds in the game. Very different

I agree.

Spoiler
The Dam also seems a little underused. I was hoping for some sort of epic set piece battle with guys shoulder to shoulder charging each other across the dam, rockets flying, bodies getting blown over the edge. But I guess it would make xbox's and many PCs explode so they couldn't :(

What would have helped the strip a lot in my opinion is if there were just more people to talk to. They wouldn't have to have quests, just people with back stories and tales to tell you. The Strip draws people from all over the land, people sell everything they own and travel for months to reach it. Just imagine the stories those people would have. The writers could have let their imaginations run wild. But what do we get instead, a bunch of generic "The Gambler" NPCs.

And another thing, for some reason my game didn't have the two female NCR officers frolicking in the fountain like in the movie I saw. I'm mad about that.

The fact that all the families get along (even if they don't really like each other) and all work for the same authority figure really makes the families not nearly as cool as the ones in Fallout 2.

IMO New Vegas is probably some what a filler game til Fallout 4 or TES 5 comes out. Dont get me wrong, I think its a great game, but there are alot shallow areas. There is a high demand for Fallout games now, and it would be a mistake for Bethesda to make gamers wait years for another installment.
Where as TES fans have been waiting nearly 7 years for another game, the TES fan base know the wait is worth it. Alot of Fallout gamers are newcomers to the series, casual gamers, or "hype buyers". I think Bethesda is trying to draw new loyal fans to the series. Id say its working.

I think it must be scripted to only happen at a certain time. I saw them the very first time I went to the strip, but never saw them again in 4 playthroughs.

You can see a tiny bit of Tranquility Lane in this game.

But don't hope for anything big..

Yeah, I agree with the OP. I was expecting to be spending a lot more time in the Strip than I actually did. The quests for each casino are least pretty in-depth and thought through with varying levels of different possible outcomes, to their credit. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who was expecting something a bit more on the level of New Reno...

I would hope that with DLCs, (like the one coming out this Dec.), places like the strip would be expanded with quests, etc. But if you look at the map, there are alot of areas outside the offical play area that can be expanded into with DLCs.
