The setting of FOOL...?

Post » Sat Jul 18, 2009 12:33 pm

I looked through the forums, and couldn't find anything related to this (i probably just missed it/couldn't find it when i waded through the threads), but what setting/time period are we looking at for FOOL? How long after the events of FO2? And what location are we looking at?

chicago would be nice, not sure about cali though, but only because FO2 took place mostly in Cali.

Personally, i'd like to see someone that hasn't been touched by the series yet. It could leave a lot open and create a more or less new story, with of course references to FO1+2 and perhaps Van Buren and tactics.

If I had to guess I'd say they're going to use some of the Van Buren material, which means the game would take place in the Grand Canyon area of the US. But that's just my own speculation.

I'm hoping for a North California area. There are two major cities up there, in quite close proximity, and it can keep a lot of the previously invented factions around.

Well, IMO, the previous factions should only be mentioned, and shouldn't actually be a part of the game. Player factions are the way to go.

iunno, I loved FoT as well, just sad that it was kinda short and so linear, but the combat was so fun in it and the story wasn't that bad I think, fallout 1,2 had really good story and all that but combat on the other hand was a bit too slow sometimes I think, still not boring. Image

Tactics just didn't have the epic story that FO1+2 had. Also, the gameplay was almost exclusively combat oriented, where in FO1+2 you had dozens of options and combat was just one.

Maybe thats why some didn't like it :/

But yeah, i liked the BoS armor in 1/2 and tactics, in 1/2 i only saw the cover, which had their armor :P

Im happy with either chicago or california, i hope gamesas doesn't put any armor from the FOs. It wasn't as cool. Image

I think in an evolving game universe, logically speaking, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico would be a geographically challenging setting. But I think (at the risk of being boo-ed heavily) Texas would be a good choice, due to proximity to The Western areas of previous titles, and all the possibilities of existing groups meeting other Power Groups that would undoubtedly have arisen in Texas during the time span. It would the ideal mix of 'virgin territory' and 'setting familiarity' for the player.

Almost finished with F2, remember our last newsletter? It had harold's "Church" Harold was in F2 so this most likely will be set in california, but would be cool if we could go to other states. Image

Harold was also in one of the bastardized FOs, and was suposed to appear in van buren. Although i can't find it now, i remember reading that he was supposed to wander the wastes and his tree was going to drop seeds which would reforest much of the wasteland.

;) fallout bible got all the info you need. IIRC, somewhere it says that he wanders the wastes and the tree keeps getting bigger. Just don't want to search for it now -.- Image

Time-wise, I it might be fun that it'll be set later then the previous games. Maybe a 50 or 100 years.
For the reason that I would like to see the whole after world more evolved. New vehicles and guns.
Different armors and new factions maybe? OR maybe all that is our job as players.. Hard choice..

If south of US, It would be cool with a part of Miami, Texas, Mexico and maybe some Caribbean islands in some way. Including some water world activities. Like floating big River City boats far out in the sea. Not to be to much of a Water World game (Though that would be damn cool too), but maybe some big mutated sea creeps and underwater adventures? Also give it a little voodoo touch near the Mississippi?

Another thing that could be pretty cool is to have it north east, like Chicago, Detroit and NYC and also a part of Canada, since Canada were a part of the FO story too. Maybe work with snow in a real north part of the game?

Maybe, the game is set later, and they started some kind of fusion trains under and over ground in some way? So you could travel north and south of US? Or maybe a too good travel communication would ruin the whole walk in the wasteland feeling that is so special unique with the FO games.
