The settlement building limit is a joke!

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 3:49 am

Hey fellas,

just wanted to share my frustration of the building limit.

planned a nice settlement at the car cinema but just after the start I already was in the limit for a specific steel wall with the round side.

the limit is so small - it wasnt even enough to make a complete room with this type of wall.

thats ridiculous and frustrating.

at the fortress i wasnt able to build the atillery because i made one barricade too much.

i hardly was able to build enough walls for the back entry.

and i also came into the limit for freakin ladders to get up the walls. (like 4 ladders or something wtf?!)

There isnt even a number for specific building limit or a warning when you cant build another item because of that.

what a joke. sorry but I have enough of this.

no more building for me.

:(

I already knew that setlements would have limit space. What I do not know yet is: theres a limit of people per setlement?

Im not talking about the size limit shown in thre right upper corner.

I'm talking about a limit for specific objects without any limit shown.

i guess max size = max people, because of bed limit.

haven't really been building anything yet so not ran in to these limitations, but it does sound very small D: Is this for performance reasons, or why the limitation? hopefully it is something we can modd later to get it to be more agreeable...

i really dont know why. in sanctuary i was able to build far more than in the car cinema or fortress.

i got +70h of playing and I really wanted to go into the settlement building now but its just frustrating. please fix!

cant be a performance issue only, because i still can build other objects.

What I do it completely clean up the settlement, I get way more new objects to place plus I get a lot of scrap from it, took me an hour to clean up sanctuary completely then I put 1 bed and chair back into every house and built a wall around it.

there is a mod on nexus that let's you unlock it everytime u get to maximum limit so essentially you can go without any limit as much as you'd like.

just saying while it gets unlocked if it ever you can use that.

well theres a capacity bar that fills.

im not entirely sure if thats the capacity for amount of settlers, or capacity of amount of junk youve placed down in the area.

i think settlers.

because the bar is going up, but im actually removing loads from the area and scrapping it.

The limit for settlers is 10 + Charisma if i remember correctly. So if you have 6 CHR you can have 16 settlers.

its not the amount of junk. thats the point!

theres a freakin invisible limit for specific parts.

at the fort for example i was only able to place like 6 units of junk fences. thats the maximum!

at the car cinema its like max 6 units of the steel wall with rounding.

WHYYYYYYY

I surrounded the entire Drive-In in steel fence, and build a two-story wooden house inside. If you can only build six units of fence, it's because you only have enough materials in the drive-in to build six units I guess :) (Until you link up the settlements and can send materials from other settlements).

But yeah, there is a mod on Nexus that lets you place down unlimited objects IF you have enough materials at that location to do so. (The object limit was put in for the consoles, its a bit silly on PCs)

unless there is some "total limit" thing going on. I would have thought each settlement had its own limit though. Strange

yes thats what i think.

theres a global limit once reached you can only build a small amount of object everywhere else.

so now i have to remove my first HQ at sanctuary to build a new one in the same size at the car cinema for example.

-.-"

google approved limit:

I guess the limit is on how much trash we can put down in the open world. All the 30 settlements are in the open play world so it has to load all that content I guess. Only way around it would be to have a load screen on entry to each settlement and we dont want that.

So for me this means make one settlement my humdinger of a base and the rest bare essentials. I'm happy with that.

Did some reserarch at the weekend. lol its a bug.

the diagram in the upper right definitly shows the limit of built objects.

the bug is: if you build a wall and have enough materials for 5, then you can only build like 2.

the other three are not availible. so you always need more material.

i wonder if bethesda is playing their own game? for not seeing stuff like this.

I'm not getting this bug at all though. My sanctuary (for example) is completely ringed in fence, I have a huge house, dozen lights, 10 generators, shops, guard towers, and
Spoiler
a whacking great teleporter
in it. And the "limit meter" at the top-right is only up half way. Same in any settlement I've built in. The only time I can't put down something is if 1)i don't have the perk to build it or 2)don't have the materials.

strange and confusing

Niamh, you maybe have a screenshot you could show with a spoiler tag, just so I can get a feeling for how much is possible? Would be cool!

when i have enough materials for at least 5 walls or something i have no problem with building! took some time to figure it out tho

Nice that looks awesome and gave me the final proof that it was a good decision to build up that place next! So much potential, with the nice open space once the cars are cleared out.

Indeed, PC has no limits. Just go to the Nexus and look for a mod called Higher Budget or something like that.

People want the game to run at 100fps with no glitches and get upset when Bethesda try to limit the game to run optimally. LOL

Mine was much lesser before the building limit was used; it just screws up the game.

Edit: Pit stop: There were just a junk fence with some turrets, 3 retangle (2x5) floors with unfinished wooden walls on 2 sides and the rest (about half) were open.
