The settlements

Your rigth about Europe doing better, from what I understand it collasped during the Resource Wars of the 2050's and probably wasn't destroyed by nukes. Why would the Chinese waste nukes on a fuedal hellhole? That said the UK is probably like Freeside without electricity. I can't see them discovering fission power before their collaspe like the Americans. That said would it really even be Fallout? There wouldn't be FEV to create Super Mutants, there wouldn't be Ghouls, there wouldn't even be many laser or plasma weapons. Still if they discarded the Fallout Bible then it could be pretty cool.

I live in West Virginia, so we would have a HUGE supply of coal, so power would plentiful. Popular food is mutated Deer. Mutated Deer could impale a group of survivors in one charge with it's massive and sharp antelers. I live near trains, so railway guns would be popular. Chewing tobbaco cans worth 100 caps/oz. Out of Ideas.

My view of Britain is an odd one.

I see it as a grim industrial state in the center and south ( london, the midlands, northfolk, sufolk, essix, sussix.. etc )
Full of air raid shelters warehouses, gun emplacements, barrage ballons, bunkers and fortifactions.

In which three classes live, the rich royals in control of money and power.
The officer classes of soldiers in old colour dress uniforms such as the redcoats and bearskin hats..
These are armour plated with refractive sheilding tesla plates to disrupt energy and protect from ballistics.
High tech EW's designed to blast through flesh and heavy armour.

Under which is the dregs of society those in enforced work camps toiling away to keep things running and equip the emerging armies.
Their goal is to reform the Empire of the past, seek ut old colonies and take over by force if needed.

Out side in the north, tribal and clanish raiders using low tech guns, but heavy and powerfull energised melee weapons.
Roam and form alliences, trying to keep the encroaching empire from overwhelming them.

Creatures, dogs, foxes, amphibious creatures and pigeons would be the most likely.

Having done a bit of research into falloutshelters and bunker programmes during the cold war I have a bit more nuanced picture.

Norway would have several bunkers as civic code required any building of suffician size to have good shelters. Same for Germany. In Switzerland all new houses after the mid 60ies were required by law to have shelters. And then the swiss had quite a few major bunkers built into rockbed. Russia would have at least one REALLY big bunker in the Urals and Beijing would have one ditto built by hand under the city.

If a Vault programme started in the US it would have been made at least to the same number and quality as those of the US. Especially in nations with access to (Northsea) oil who could afford to fund it.

I cannot believe you people didn't mention KANSAS!

Kansas i believe houses like half of the US's nuclear armament, why? Because who wants to walk 3000000 miles in each direction looking for a silo?

but would china nuke it? Oh Yes

Would they throw half of their nuclear armament at it? Oh Yes

would they try and make Kansas a wasteland that wouldnt be inhabitable for over 2000 years? Oh Yes

kansas would be the SINGLE WORST AREA to live

Next to NYC and the pitt.

I'd probably be a non-feral ghoul living in the Allen Park Salt Mines outside of Detroit. Even in the reality of this world's crappy economy, Detroit is still a priority industrial nuclear target. The place would be as fragged as the D.C. Wasteland.

I live in Knoxville, Tennessee, which is roughly fifteen miles from Oak Ridge, home of the Bomb. There are three reactor/production sites still active, so depending on the amount of ordinance used and the status of the reactors at zero hour, I would be [censored] or relatively safe.

Been a while since I added my well 2 caps heheh....

I agree about Loosing Kansas completly (having lived there the first half of my life did not help it any, and in fact i will bve so bold as to suggest that nothing would exactly change IF it was hit by half of what the reds could though hehehe) as its part of the bread basket I think it would been hit hard just to kill our food supply if the nukes were not as effective as they were hehe.

The coal would be gone even in the states I am thinking.

I do believe Austrailla was hit pretty hard (as I have stated elsewhere) because of there natural uranium deposits (look it up folks they have a Lot heheh) but well pretty much every where has some mineral wealth, strategic value, or just plan pissed some one else off in the past heh so we are all pretty wrecked..

I really liked the idea of the Dark industrailed Brit's wonder where Wales and Scotland come into that picture though. But really all of Europe is ?? because not really sure what the resource war did in breaking them up err well for me at least maybe just need a bit more fallout research..

Anyway great Ideas and insight folks Keep em coming

I've read in various places that Interplay and Bethesda have stayed away from everywhere but America because Fallout's whole point was the American perspective in the end of society. Meh. But in parallel to other post-apocalyptic predictions in fiction and film, most major cities would be wiped out for the hell of it, just to make sure that the dominant powers would not be superseded by anyone, regardless of their status as friend or foe. But that also speaks to the type of people who write a lot of that stuff.

I'm in Seoul, South Korea. Considering we've been bordering communist North Korea, it could be interesting. But this country is really plucky. We've resisted a LOT of invasions, we'll pull through a couple of nukes.

I live in Florida, and in any case where the world may end Florida always winds up being flooded, because our highest point above ground is still below sea level. I'm going to assume there wouldn't be much action. Maybe some mutant alligators, I think the points of land that wouldn't be flooded would be much like Point Lookout

Oh my god I hate it so much.
I thought that spring was finally around the corner then it goes to north pole winter again and now I'm freezing my toes off.

Anyway, Sweden, we'd be the major producer of stimpacks and computers in the European wastes.
Why? Cause I said so, and my word is law... We also produce the best toothpicks and cardboard boxes.
