The Ship with engines

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:48 pm

One doesn't need rockets to make it sea worthy. But I would hope for that over making it "air worthy." But a ship like that as old as it is would need constant human attention. After a nuclear war it would be nothing but it's metal bits. But then again we are dealing with the "Just because" style of writing.

It was an attempt at humor. Of course in a world that was Fallout before the war people would be as patriotic as ever and would go to see it, even without rockets ;)

That's what I am assuming, the rockets are there for speed in water not to fly.

It's impractical in reality (I have to assume they would rip the ship to peices), but I don't that would slow Bethesda down one bit.

Whatever it might be, I just have a bad feeling it won't be good, whatever the outcome.

If we're lucky we'll be helping some poor deluded bastard with his goal of getting the ship airbourne

Not to merely be seaworthy, no. And definitely, not "just because" I am going to assume that as a museum, pre-war it was kept well in shape. It did earn the name Old Ironsides- it is one tough ship, so it has that going for it for the "surviving the war" part. We also don't know what post war repairs may have been done. So..
It is my hope that rockets are needed to outrun someone- or something.

I'm surprised no one's pointed out that the ship is also atop what looks to be a Bank, functioning as a glorified decoration.

Here's my three guesses:

1) "Rool of kewl" AKA it serves no purpose and you'll basically hear that "some kooky old scientist" attached them and no one knows why or when.

2) Gabriel's suggestion that it'll prompt an air battle with the other airship, sort of like the Liberty Prime finale for FO3.

3) The British RE-INVADED the USA some years ago by sea. The Boston locals attached rockets to the USS Constitution to fight them at sea and succeeded. They then did the next logical thing and shoved it on top of the local bank as decoration.

Abraham Washington was the guy who wanted the Declaration of Independence right?

This seems like something he'd be into, though reclaiming it and outfitting it with rockets to propel it somehow are two different things.

This is assuming that these are rockets, we haven't seen them in action.

Not as this scenario, but Boston being the most logical port one from Britain would sail to, I expect to hear something about British. Word of Tenpenny passing through at the very least.

Far too small. Besides, why is everyone assuming its the constitution? Am I missing something?

I think they simply made a newer replica of the USS Constitution with enough reinforcements and material so it could stand the thrust from the rockets they strapped on the stern.

I mean, really, the original ship would have to be 480 years old by that point.

@Britain invading the US- Um, pretty sure if there was a third war between America and Britain, we would've heard about it in Fallout 3 cause it's, y'know, on the Eastern shore.

It looks exactly like the ship, with the exact same paint job, and is the most famous ship parked in boston.

ITs really about as up in the air as the bunker hill monument is at this point.

Look at the back of the boat in the trailer, and then look at the back of the USS Constitution.

There are several ships in Boston that look like that. In fact, the constitution was a warship, would be rows of cannon's on the sides. Boston is one of the few cities out there where a wooden ship like that isn't out of place, and would make sense to build one long after that era had ended.

There ARE rows of cannons on the sides.

You can see them in the trailer very visibly if you pause on the frame.

What's the one famous ship from that era that currently floats at dock in Boston? Yep, the USS Constitution. They wouldn't just show a random 18th-century ship in the trailer that showcases the locations of Boston, including its iconic landmarks. They'd show that ship exactly.

The only thing I want to know is if that's the actual ship or a later replica.

Look at the aft of the boat in the trailer. The eagle with the stars and stripes, and you can barely make out (one of the rockets is in the way) some letters, that appear to be "CON" .
Look at the aft in a picture of the real ship. Eagle, stars and stripes, and a name plate reading constitution.
