That is a good point. The extra 17.5 damage seems worth the sacrifice of 3 shells, considering it's doubtful that you'll run out of ammunition too quick with a shotgun of such power... and there's always Rapid Reload. Not to mention is has about 40 more DPS.
So as of now, in my view Dinner Bell > Hunting shotgun. For me, it's basically Riot vs DB... eh, I'll get both.

Definitely get both. The Dinner Bell only has a .42 spread with slugs, so you can actually engage and a pretty long distance and still reliably drop targets (nothing in this game is going to scoff at almost 90 DAM with -10 DT fueling a sneak critical, I guarantee). Break out the Riot Shotgun when you need to pump out raw DPS at medium and closer ranges, or switch to shot (or ideally magnum shot) when engaging multiple targets that aren't heavily armored.
