First, let me say that I found playing the Silver Shroud to be a real hoot... So much tongue in cheek, so much nostalgia, so over-the-top hokey that it was fun...

I have a question though. this is the spoiler part if you haven't played as the silver Shroud.

I tried several times, and I either failed to accomplish both goals, or I got myself killed each time unless I followed the dialogue. I thought perhaps if I had a .50 or some equivelent I might have been able to pull it off... but with the weapon provided, it was just impossible for me at level 20.

BEST QUEST IN ANY GAME.

I didn't use the submachine gun because I wasn't specced for it, but I did it with Kellogg's Revolver, which imo is way cooler.

Basically to save the individual, you need to use jet and psycho.

If I remember correctly there's a certain speech check that makes it fairly easy to save the guy..it's been a long time since I did the quest

I tried using psychojet, but one of the two guys would end the rescue before dropping dead each time.

You can save Kent by selecting the response "kill me first" that way everyone shoots you instead of him. All other choices end up with them shooting and killing him before you can save him.

I did it in the Silver Shroud costume but without the machine gun. I used my .308 sniper rifle and picked them off rather quickly. the whole quest was a blast though. really liked it.

Did anyone take out the "alternate" assassination? I didn't.

I went there, but found the object to be non-threatening, and didn't complete it.

I didn't know I could save him through dialog as I didn't choose (ever?) the kill me first option, and I tried this several times.

Way I solved it was

When I did it in SIlver Shroud gear, I passed the speech check to get his goons to bail, and VATS'd right for the head.

You don't have to use the "kill me first" option if you use the "speak as Shroud" dialogue... although things got a bit strange when it was just me, Shinjin, and Kent.

I think it's even more hilarious when 'Nora' does 'speak as the Shroud...'

I pulled it off with my .45 assault rifle (not fully modded).

My charisma is maxed so I was able to frighten the cronies into running off (don't remember if speech was required). I pumped some psycho and jet and unloaded on the guy.

yeah charisma is required to Intimate as Shroud.

yes, threaten as the shroud than shoot the guy in the face before he can kill the goul

I don't know about charisma being needed all that much, mine is only 2, and it worked.

I intimidated the henchmen into standing down then used a banked critical to drive a sniper round into Shin's head

I just shot the [censored] guy as soon as I walked in the room, Kent was fine.

No he's not, I saved him just a couple of days ago. It took me a couple of tries but I managed to pull it off. I intimidated his goons into fleeing with the Silver Shroud dialog, and then very quickly one-shotted him with a tricked-up hunting rifle and a hit of Psycho before he had a chance to kill Kent.

Had two criticals ready, one banked one current. One for each.
