The Sims Medieval

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 1:28 am

My gaming library is vast and extensive but has never included any of The Sims titles perhaps because rightly or wrongly I perceive them to be little more than a child's paintbox game. Maybe thats just my prejudice;
also because they are set in our modern world and I play games as a form of escapism. The last thing I want to do is have to hold down a job in a game, even it's my pixel pet thats doing the work.

Yet I am intrigued by The Sims Medieval. Its a fantasy setting, it has quests, it has dragons, it has spells, it ticks a lot of my boxes...
I am hoping for some depth and real combat options though, and not just some dressing up game..
Anyone else intrigued or I am going out on a gaming limb?

yeah i was looking at this the other day. i've never played sims, but i could handle a game without combat for a change, as long as it wasn't too gay of course.
would love to hear a report from an elder scrolls player's perspective.

Somebody has already ordered it for me to replace the DA:2 I had pre-ordered but cancelled after the demo. Take that, BioWare! lol

I'll let you know in fourteen days whether its worth a look. I don't mind Sims games. Makes a pleasant change to occasionally go there to shine a little light on what is otherwise a murder, death, kill, role-play, real-time strategy, and shooter collection on my shelves that takes itself way too seriously. I will say this though, Rachel Bernstein led the team responsible for SimCity Societies... gives you pause when you discover she is also lead for Medieval. :D

Eh, still will be a fun little game, probably. Might not be in the same sense are other games, but at least it's not pretending to be anything more than it is. Looks good, man.

Its not out here til the 25th but I do want it. However I really doubt there will be proper combat - it's just not aimed at that kind of gamer. There's never been any kind of real violence or combat in Sims games, they probably won't alienate their HUGE female and young fanbase by including something as different as that.

There's been sadism right from the start, though :P.

Am looking forward to it. Hope the dev team does not forget about TS3 though, what with that tiny little bug that completely destroys the playability after ten hours on one town.

Going medieval is a nice change for the Sims, really. ^_^

Let me just say that I did not think that Simcity Societies was a bad game, it just wasn't a Simcity game.

I did enjoy the other Sim spinoffs such as Castaway Stories and such, and this seems like a game was originally planned to result from Sims going to the past using the time machine from Ambitions.

Aye, hence the lack of a number in the title. It's a fine game on its own.

I'm not that much of a Sims fan at all, but this one looks pretty fun to play... :)

SimCity Societies not being a SimCity game kinda rails against the title SimCity... no? It was also buggier than Hell (Hell has been scientifically proven to be eight times buggier than Hades) and got next to no support, and yet, still they released an expansion pack for it. If it had anything like the sales The Sims 1/2/3 had, it might have gotten more attention. Also good games generally get a greater metacritic score than 65. The Sims Medieval will me thinks... but if SimCity Societies is anything to go by, and with the announcement that more Medieval packs are to follow... I'm kind dubious about seeing patches make an appearance in a timely fashion, if at all. If the Sims community doesn't rally behind Medieval I can't see many community patches/hacks/mods appearing at Mod the Sims for Medieval either.

That said I am looking forward to Medieval... lol... looks like Pixar-ish animated fun. I'm just realistic about EA support, and all I have to go on is previous outings and who ran the show on the previous titles. SimCity Societies (Tilted Mill/Rachel Bernstein)... not... good. IMO =P

Well the thing is that a lot of the criticism for Societies is that it was NOT a "true" Simcity game, not that the game itself was a horrible piece of unplayable garbage. Of course it has some pretty bad frame rate problems. Even on higher-end PCs.
