The sixism that people are displaying on here is scary.

Post » Tue Sep 27, 2011 7:05 pm

Skyrim is a game where people live vicariously through their character, so that they can do cool things they've always wanted to do, like kill a dragon and jump off mountains and stuff like that.

That's one reason why the really inappropriate comments on here are really bothering.

It seems like you can't have a topic without someone saying something along the lines of, "My wife better stay in the kitchen or she gets a flamethrower to the face," or "Can't wait to get back from a long quest and have my wife make me some food, or else I teach her a lesson."

It's bad enough to joke about it, and I can't believe those posts don't get deleted, considering how strict this board is already you would think something as offensive as blatant sixism would not be tolerated.

But I pray that people don't go around roleplaying in the game someone who abuses their wife because they want to live out these urges that they want to do in real life but don't want to get arrested for.

I'm pretty sure they're kidding and you don't have much to worry about. :)

The people saying this stuff are pretty harmless... I hope...

Although it is never right to say! :swear:

This is also probably going to get moved to another forum or locked because it has nothing to do with Skyrim, don't react badly, just take a deep breath in through your nose, hold it for a few seconds, and gently blow it out your mouth. It'll all be okay! :) I promise! :D

It has everything to do with Skyrim.

Skyrim is a game where you role play a character and do stuff you can't do in real life.

You can get married in Skyrim, and you can assumedly abuse your wife in Skyrim.

And people are talking about doing that, which is very strange and concerning.

Seems like people can't make a harmless comment without someone making a thread whining about it nowadays.

It's the internet bro. Most people make sixist remarks as a joke. Like the whole "Make me a Sammich woman" thing.

People joke about all kinds of things, the important thing is to remember that they are joking (usually).

You can't control what people say, it's a part of life and sadly you will just have to accept it.

You know...women tend to joke that they're going to treat their men the same way...

And is it really that big of a deal? People make stupid jokes. The forum may be strict, but it's still a part of the internet. If people could joke about things like sixism and racism I think the world would be a better place. Joking softens up issuse like that. It's the same way two guys can have a full on fist fight in the parking lot but then share a beer when they get inside.

Maybe I just come from the country and that's showing right now, but it's a lot nicer place to live in because people can joke about things and still get along. People are going to be jerks to one another. It's human nature. But at least if people can move past that and take things as jokes, people can get along with each other dispite them being jerks.

Wow.

This place is nothing in aspects like this.

That website with those Four Chans has ossified me against things like this. Meh.

It's just joking. Don't get all offended and you'll be fine.

Well let me go ahead and make a joke about how someone of a different ethnicity or religion is inferior to my personal ethnicity or religion. Do you think that would fly? sixism is just as offensive.

It is somewhat strange and concerning, yes. But I don't think people saying these things actually have an urge to beat women... Are there a large amount of people on here who are misogynistic?

I really think this might be a bit out of proportion. You're right, yes, they shouldn't say those things, but because you say "I'm going to kill him!" doesn't mean you're actually going to do it. Nor does joking around about like, setting a person's mailbox on fire because you're mad at them.

I do see where you're coming from, though.

I'm not trying to be mean here but you do realize this IS the INTERNET right? People are lousy. And besides it's all in good fun. I doubt half the people mean it and I have even cracked a woman joke and racist jokes many times in company that the jokes are making fun of and everyone laughs. As long as you are laughing with the person in question is what matters. Hell, even a few of my female friends crack sixist women jokes more than me. Just goes to show how not serious I, at least, am about it. I can't speak for other people for certain.

This.

Also, I haven't noticed it at all.

Also, get over it. It's ridiculous how personally people take things these days. "Oh my god! Someone said a slightly misogynistic joke on the internet, they must have meant it as a personal attack on me and my beliefs!" Honestly, grow up.
